nortcentrallord:The answer to your question is: Nigerian is money being used to develop the new found wells in the north just like Nigerian money was used to develop those in the south. No! there is nothing imaginary about the oil find in the north except to those with literacy problems, who apparently cannot read the screaming headlines in front of them. Yes, oil may now be losing its relevance but it doesn't meant it will completely lose its entire relevance even in the future. That is why even oil rich countries like Saudi Arabia etc, with huge reserves have never stopped exploring for new finds to add to their strategic reserves and safeguard their energy security. |

drss:Why not invest in Agriculture, imagine whooping #27 billion and $340m. In my opinion this fund should be channelled appropriately. ""The statement from the NNPC also said that the exploration of the oil in the North has, so far, gulped a shocking sum of about N27 billion and $340 million corresponding" |

ItsMeAboki:My friend, it's no brainer that resources meant for prior capital developments and other national strides are used to prospect for oil in a part of the country while existing reserves are abandoned. If you understand the word "Prospect", the large uncertainty surrounding same are heightened with the oil price glut, the pending confirmation of economical volumes for it to be declared a reserve and the insecurity in the region. All this has infact confirmed that, it has always been about oil. Shame on you and your like minds. If this news be true, then, good luck to the Arewa Republic. |
| Re: NNPC Discovers 21 Wells Full Of Prospects Of Oil In North by ABEngine(m): 7:07pm On Oct 12, 2016 |
ItsMeAboki:Read again and amuse yourself even more. What do you understand by the following words; prospecting, uncertainty, economic quantity or volumes, oil price glut? Do you know there are confirmed prospects in the south waiting development? Do you also know that our onshore and swamp wells are not beyond 13000fts ? Have you ever heard of deep reach wells? If yes, why not develop a region with such potentials rather than wildcatting to the tune of $340 million and some billions of Naira. That money can change alot in the power sector as well as boost the diversification agenda in Agriculture. You actually sound learned but I urge you to remain so throughout this convo |

ABEngine:Wait hold on Bro. If this is true why waste time in northern region. Secondly if you know all this can you please tell me where in southern region these well are so we can invest. I don't get why more private oil exploration companies don't try. I don't mind giving it a shot in future. You should aswell. |

ABEngine:If you had any comprehension you wouldn't raise any of the issues you mentioned; since my post had already addressed them. Evidently, since you are hard of understanding of the following key words used in my post: exploring, strategic reserves, energy security; then let me make it very simple for you: Ever heard of the saying 'putting all ones eggs in the same basket'? - hope you get it. |
| Re: NNPC Discovers 21 Wells Full Of Prospects Of Oil In North by Image123(m): 7:53pm On Oct 12, 2016 |
Blue3k:But there's no need to deceive people about wells full of potential, there is nothing like that. A oil well is either productive and economically viable or it is not. Saying it has potential is meaningless rubbish and an attempt to siphon money while giving childish hopes. |

Blue3k:Ok bro... Wikk do that ASAP |
| Re: NNPC Discovers 21 Wells Full Of Prospects Of Oil In North by ABEngine(m): 7:56pm On Oct 12, 2016 |
Blue3k:The major problem here is the uncertainties sorrounding such investments, the process of conversion from resources to reserve which is only favoured by improved oil prices and the huge capital investment that isnt favoured by policy bias at the moment. A group of indigenous companies are doing same at the moment, most cannot attract foriegn investors due to the said reasons above. But would have been a nice choice if only we chose to have the mining technologies with well funded research and development capacities in exchange for the black gold rather than depend on some industry experts. |

ABEngine:Bros talk true. If you were Buhari would you be spending more money developing prospects in the South? Right now the South is holding the whole country to ransom. The northerners have no choice. If they discover oil it's a win for everyone. 1. Either the North will be more amenable to resource control or splitting up as the case may be or 2. Even if we remain together we will rest from the economic terrorists in the Niger Delta. |

| Re: NNPC Discovers 21 Wells Full Of Prospects Of Oil In North by Image123(m): 8:09pm On Oct 12, 2016 |
ABEngine:Nothing wrong with exploration, every normal country does that. It is not a Buhari idea, it's been on for decades and the money mentioned was spent over 30years. What is wrong is childish illiterate deception about meaningless prospects of oil. You either find oil or you don't. It's not a hope that it would later appear, that's rubbish. Existing reserves are not abandoned. Deal with facts and mention them. |

honeychild:My dear, your concerns have been duly deliberated and the outcomes were thus: 1. Nigeria is divided on tribal, religious and socio-political lines, we should not try to pretend about this and as such we are vulnerable. 2. The problems of the common men have little or nothing to do with the natural endowments of a geo-region. Oil wars are for the elites. We the commoners need electricty and some basic health facilties inclusive of a comprehensive health insurance scheme as privilieges of our so called "common wealth." 3. If Oil must be explored in the North, the question would be? At whose expense? The people are yet to benefit from that in the South and as such do not directly feel the impact of these resources. 4. A nation threatened by war, hunger and economic instabilities should have found an/some alternative(s) to quel these looming crisis. The answer is in Agriculture Now to your question, if I were buhari, I will shift focus from Oil to Agriculture, develop the capacities of the large farming belts of the Nation while developing logistics to ensure assess to food is unrestricted. We all know how desperate a hungry man can be. Thereby gaining on effectively cutting down societal vices and the rate of crime |
| Re: NNPC Discovers 21 Wells Full Of Prospects Of Oil In North by ItsMeAboki(m): 8:32pm On Oct 12, 2016 |
ABEngine:Point has already been made: Nigeria cannot achieve energy security if its supply lines remain vulnerable to attack and sabotage by concentrating its source in one area (i.e. the ND) - which is akin to putting all its eggs in one basket. Anyone with common sense would understand why it is therefore strategic to also diversify the source of such resource, so that the country may not be held to ransom like in the current situation that we have with the NDA or in event of war or disaster that may impact on our supply infrastructure. Hope that is now simple enough for you. |

Image123:This is an excerpt of the link posted below this comment "Further, the acquisition of 3D seismic is helping to delineate oil prospects previously not identified. Gbaran field, for example, is estimated to hold approximately 500 million bbl of oil. The structure was previously thought to be a predominantly gas accumulation when discovered in 1967 and is probably an example of reinterpretation with better seismic data". ABEngine:You are cementing my point, the wells aren't being abandoned. Gbaran field is in the Niger Delta. It is the northern exploration that they need to come clean and straight with. There's nothing wrong with the exploration but they should not give false hopes and make meaningless statement about wells full of prospect. |

ItsMeAboki:1. Diversification you say, Agriculture is a more profitable investment if you ask any honest being with common sense. With bio extracts we can also support power generation and reduce our carbon footprint. 2. In lieu of the recent spate of attacks that have rendered the country vulnerable as you rightly noted, should we come to an accord on the fact that no region has exclusive rights or franchise to madness and as such, if prompted, such gory instances could equally repeat itself in the North East & Chad basin regions. Let's not give ourselves justification for folly and cloaked bigotry. You and I know where these monies are best employed. |
