It truly is, she carried the child in her belly for nine months and she has breasts that produce milk for the child until it can eat solid food. These should tell Adiche something.
Of course, itz a mother's responsibility but not to d exclusion of the father. Itz a collective responsibility

if our parents had paid us to read, it would have become a habit and d comments on nairaland will make more sense... But itz a pity, this is what we have

So if they pay school fees all so you can be literate and still pay you to read they you don't deserve the education. Millions of people would gladly go after the opportunity you have without pay. You as a child, do you not understand that learning to read and write makes you more interactable among your friends. What are you saying here. Abeg she is just a business woman but not a sensible one at that matter.

She has even caused more damage to our society than she thinks

Hypocrite. Go and live with that bufoon and see how people don't live what they preach. Feminisim is not being apologetic ? Well manism is also not being apologetic. Let's see which sex will go extinct first due to all the unaplogetic wickedness that would fill the world.

You write a few fictional books and all of a sudden she feels she knows Arrow about mankind or its acceptable valuesm women and senselessness is 5 and 6

Wow dude... take a chill pill.

Yes, it truly is because she also brought forth a child alone.undecided Didn't you know that she would have been able to do all you mentioned without the sperm?

It works. I remember my sister paying me on Sundays to go to church one time, and it stuck! I didn't even need the money to go anymore. I think it would work perfectly on children and it is a great idea.

Truth. The woman is starting to become a nuisance. Sad thing is that her supporters are not sophisticated enough to understand.

Have u heard of d word 'habit' before?? Yh, that's the point... Has your dad ever told u sumfin like "if u do well in your studies, I will buy you a bicycle"...
Itz pretty simple, really... Young children will generally not see a reason to read but by putting a reward on it, it becomes a habit. So even when there's no reward, they still read coz itz part of them
the first place a child picks his/her habit from is from d parents. If u as a parent do not have d habit of reading, pay ur child as much as u wish, reading will not be in the habits of the child. The parents are like a mirror to the kids.

u got it all wrong,it will be a bad habit to them, they will be expecting money from their parents anytime they read and that will ve a negative effect, every serious child knows its good to read, but telling your child that if u read I will pay, that's total rubbish

I was thinking of how i would reply them all but u did that already.

I have come to realize that majority of Nigerian youths dont read anyother books apart from the one they need to pass their semester exams. Now how would this kind of people encourage their kids/toddlers to even read anything at all?

Some are saying that how can u pay school fees then pay a child again to read...

Im sure they didnt read the post, if not they would have read where she mentioned Biographies, history books.. etc...

A lot of people on this thread do not understand about the psychological and mental benefits of what she means by "pay your child to read"....... Nigerians will always be gullible and lack wisdom to move forward, we lack creativity and can't think outside the box, that's why we will continue to remain where we are......as if they will not thank the gods that their parents are paying them to read. rubbish! hypocrisy of the highest order! undecided

I guess all she was trying to say is to encourage your children to read, reward them for reading if possible. It is called motivation in management.

For people spewing nonsense up there! There is nothing wrong in paying your child to "READ". Its a good form of motivation rather than using cane to batter them to the extent that they attribute negativity to learning.

For example, my grandfather will never buy biscuits/sweets etc for you or even give you money without asking "what service you can render for him?" You can choose to wash is singlets or sweep or do anything that he considers service(s) and you negotiate for the amount of such service and he pays you after you finish.

Lessons learnt:
I learnt to deliver value in order to get paid right from a tender age. Unlike some teenagers or adults of today that want you to dash them money for no reason.
I learnt to be independent, learnt to negotiate and get values for my skills.
It made me to appreciate people that go out of their way to render value adding service to other people
.

Summary, translate that to paying your child to read. The benefits that the child will reaped is going to be worthwhile now and in the future!

She is so right, there should be incentives. Though l read as a child to escape into another world, having to have read Things Fall Apart, Kongi's Harvest, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again, Rob Roy etc all before l finished primary school. While reading on the bed, it made my mind travel round the world! While l was in Secondary school, l did save to buy second-hand novels because l was addicted to reading. cheesy cheesy

Reading outside school texts is real fun! cheesy cheesy cheesy

So very true!
Do you still read?
