After reading all the comments herein, i have reaffirmed my earlier assertion that a major problem with Nigeria youths is that everyone wants to comment, air his or her opinions publicly while they are totally ignorant about a subject matter. Having an education is meant to enable one make informed decisions and offer well-thought out answers in a discourse. The FEMM act was even mentioned in the writeup and yet some folks here still spew thrash about MTN having a right to dispose of their monies as dey deem fit. Evn MTN are not contesting the legality of the allegation against them but rather whether they are guilty or not. Please folks always endeavour to read well before exhibiting your ignorance on NL. Humility demands you ask if you do not know. No one knows it all. One Love 3 Likes |

kaboninc: Look...if you call this victimization, what would you say about the imposed fine that they eventually agreed to pay...would they have payed such a huge amount if they had not been found wanting?... sentiments apart, MTN have been having it their way in time past...not anymore. This reminds me of when they claim per second billing is "absolutely not possible" until GLO came to rescue Nigerians from their evil monopoly. Again, a sister company of the same mother DSTV charges you per Month wether you switch on your decoder or not but charge their South African brothers pay per use. How is that ethical or favorable to their host country? 1 Like 1 Share |

plaetton: Very unintelligent comment South African companies e. g MTN , DSTV rob Nigerians blind with their unfair practices. Our past governments have colluded with them. Thank God this government is even making an attempt to curtail them. if push comes to shove... MTN would lose more if they have to leave Nigeria You must be a South African, if not be ashamed to call yourself a Nigerian. imagine defending the exploitation of your country |

plaetton: if the govt feels their profit margins are outrageously high , the best they could do for us as citizens is to enforce reduction of tariff, selling a percentage of shares to the public, but not restricting them frm moving their cash... bad belle pple 1 Like |

kaboninc: Google and Read the FEMM act that was outlined in the post and tell me if he is "actually correct in a way" the government can't be so dumb to go after foreign companies moving "their money" legally out of Nigeria but if it illegally done then it is the responsibility of the government to question such transactions. Again, it is better you don't comment on issues you have no knowledge about. Rather than claim to know seek to know Instead. 2 Likes |

KingOfAmebo: These reasons or points you raiser are really not relevant unless in the court of the public. MTN flouted a rule and was sanctioned. If MTN says per second billing is not possible, its simply business and because you have a competitor, they had to be put on their toes. That's entirely different from if they repatriate their funds. |

plaetton: The keyword is ILLEGAL. Cash transfers are regulated all over the world. There are legal channels for that. If you are caught with a cash filled suitcase at Heathrow airport for example, you would be investigated for money laundering, even if it is your legitimately earned cash. You must pass it through the normal channels and pay appropriate charges on it. Illegal transfer distort the economy as the cash cannot be traced. It causes loss of revenue as well. seunmsg:while you are at it. Please commend them for putting this country and it's citizens in an impoverish state. Also praise them for masking the face of this country with ridicule and blindness via leadership. You want to write... So that people would applaud you? Okay... In the last regime... When the worth of naira plummeted a bit... What was the drastic reaction of the public? And what did the leaders then, do? Did they not adhere to the demands of the citizens? No matter how bad we tag them to be, this is the leadership skill they possessed that your golden jewelled administration can not offer. Don't bother quoting me as this is in no means an open letter for dialogue, rather, a word of advice from a fellow brother. |
