What Is The Risk In Buying A Premium Theme From a Third-party? by macloaded: 1:10pm On Oct 29, 2016
Please I need you guys opinion on this.

I want to start a blog but after going through themeforest to check some of the themes, i found one that i like but the problem is that its kind of expensive (about $64).

But I got someone who claims to have the theme and is willing to sell it to me at a cheaper price.

And calculating my expenses am considering going for the cheaper one, but i dont know if it is risky, like if it might have some security issues or anything, please i need you guys opinion on this.

Especially with this recession of a thing and having to pay over 15k for .ng domain.

No, it's not risky depending if the theme is complete and has full support

sometimes the theme has some ad codes in them which you will not see as admin and secondly you will never receive updates about the theme if you don't have your activation key or something like that

The truth is some premium theme developers may decide to sell all their themes at a very cheap price. For example, with just about $199, one can get all themes made by themeforest from their official site.

This is what most people do and then turn around to retail these themes at cheaper rates. Selling it once doesn't mean it's gone! They can sell to as many people as they want for good profit.
.
To the best of my knowledge, I think buying from third party is safe, providing the seller got it legally from the makers.

Getting the full one is rare as you have to use the code sent to your email when bought. I also have the theme which is working perfectly but its asking for code which doesnt give me full support.

This only applies to those using a free version of a theme. You only get limited support, and sometimes see the theme signature in a footer mode. Everything changes the moment you purchase the theme. After you activate it, that is.

My little advice is that you purchase your theme from themeforest. You'd get to read buyer's reactions and even the attributes of those themes, as well as use or try a demo version. Truth is I cannot think of buying a theme outside of themeforest.

Your major concern is the source of the theme. You have nothing to fear if it was created by or purchased from reputable premium theme makers like Elegant themes, Studiopress, Mythemeshop, Woothemes, Themeforest, and so on.

Even if someone buys from these outlets and decides to resell to you, there should be no issues except that the person (if he's tech-savvy and dubious) decides to incorporate malicious lines of code that can compromise your private data.

In any case, it's better to buy directly from the theme vendors. The price might be more, but it's nothing compared to how much you can lose to a security mess.

This is crap. When it comes to things like this, its not only Nigerians that likes cutting corners.

Its mostly oyibos that hacks these e products and sell them at lower prices.

See, oyibos like free things as every other race so stop that crap of Nigerians wanting to cut corners cause is applicable to other countries.

By the way, anybody that wants any premium theme or premium plugin. Anything you can think of as far as its a blogging tool you can message to get it free but some you have to pay a token.

OP, download this WordPress plugin called TAC (Theme authenticity checker), patiently use it to analyze if the theme you got from third party contains any malicious code injected by the third party (that is the only risk). If no malicious code is found, you're good to go. It is confirmed to be exactly as it is if you bought from the source.

Although buying from the source is the best. But paying 199 dollars for it when you have alternatives is a sin in this recession period.

If you're ready to have your site compromised, in the nearest future, and your hosting suspended, then you should go ahead.

The potential wahala is not worth the savings.

Be careful o guy, even tho you are paying, it cud be a modified nulled scripts kind of theme. Certainly not ideal for a serious site like you're painting yours to be. I'd advice either going for s cheaper theme then look for someone who can customize the look and feel. Later you can decide to get this one.

Buy from the original source. There is huge advantages like huge support from users and developers of the themes and frequent updates. Updates are great. When i started getting updates on my ps4 and its games, ms office, windows OS and many pc softwares and even android apps, i started looking forward to updates...dont under estimate updates and support
