Stop giving antibiotics if it ia not prescribed by a doctor, because different antibiotics treat different bacterial infections and you also don't want to build a drug resistance in your child's body and weaken the liver. That kind of persistent coughing, especially at night and a dry cough, sounds like an allergy. I had one recently. Move the fan from hitting them directly and take them to the hospital and tell the doctor about him checking for allergies (their chests will be clear when he listens if it is one) and he can prescribe an allergy medication syrup for them. Keep some drinking water beside them at night and give them sips. Most kids outgrow it. HTH

Happy Sunday mamas!

my DS is 3 weeks old and for the past two weeks he cries as if he's in pain. his stomach rumbles and he feels relief when he poo and fart. last night he cried all through even when suckling.

baby centre described it as colic and I have read about it here. In the previous pages some mamas made mention of giving their baby infacol.

please does the infacol work? when i complained to my paediatrician he just said he'll outgrow it and it will continue for 3-4 months.

please what should I do?

Mamas in the house I gave birth last week via emergency cs and my dd came out sick. She was rushed to the nursery and I didnt see her for 3 days during which time she was bottle fed.

When I finally saw her sef my breast didn't rush so I continued to feed with baby food. Now she is rejecting my breast. If I put her to it she screams until you remove and bottle feed. Pls what do I do to get her to accept the breast. Plus I have flat nipples but I was told if she starts sucking they will come out

Good morning Mamas, I hope we are all doing great.

Please my LO has been battling with catarrh, started like one week after birth and he's 9 weeks old now. I try to cover him as much as I can. I tried clearing his nose with nasal aspirator but it only made matters worse cos it tickles his nostrils and he starts sneezing all over again.

It's so sad watching him struggle while sucking, makes him really cranky at times. What do I do Please?

Congrats on the birth of your daughter.

First of all, is your breastmilk flowing? If it's not, she won't be encouraged to suck because she's hungry and she's expecting the taste of milk in her mouth.

However, if you are sure your milk is flowing, then keep breastfeeding AFTER she's being bottle fed and in between meal times (when she's not hungry). Even if all she does is to suck for few minutes, don't be discouraged and continue. If you do this persistently, she will get used to the texture of the nipple in her mouth.

I will also suggest you do a bit of skin to skin contact. Drape her in blankets and cuddle her next to your topless chest. Skin to skin contact has been said to encourage the flow of breastmilk.

Nasal aspirator should be used occasionally as it can make the whole situation worse.

Have you tried silverbird? Get original silverbird and dilute it with any oil (coconut or baby oil) and apply it on the crown of his head. Apply it on his head after every bath time and occasionally during the night whilst he's asleep. Silverbird must be super diluted as it's quite strong. You can also apply a few drops around his cot. Remember again to really dilute silverbird with the oil and the smell of the oil must not be over powering.

Once he's 12 weeks old, buy OLBAS OIL. Apply the oil on his clothes, cot, etc few times a day. Olbas oil helps in relieving nasal congestion.

Another option that's recommended by doctors is to run a hot/warm shower in the bathroom with the door closed and after some few minutes, take your baby to the bathroom and have him inhale the steam. i have tried this personally a few times but it didn't work for me until I tried the silverbird method.

Another method is to place a bucket of hot water near you and have someone cover you (your baby on your laps) with a blanket and then your baby can inhale the steam. I have tried this (I sprinkled silverbird in the water) and it did work. I also used an aspirator immediately after and I was able to suck out a lot of mucus. However, you have to be very very very careful with this method because of the hot water so as to avoid any accident or burns.

Finally, have you taken him to the hospital to complain and have your son looked at? If its a case of serious congestion, the catarrah might have to be sucked out using a specialised hospital aspirator. Your doctor might however decide not to do anything as they feel this is a phase that will pass.

Congrats dear on the birth of your son.

Infacol worked perfectly for me and I will personally recommend it. Doctors insist babies will outgrow it - which is true but seeing one's baby in such pain and discomfort is heartbreaking. In addition to infacol, always ensure you burp him after each feed.

A close friend of mine swears by gripe water. She told me she adds it into her baby's formula and that was the only thing that stopped her son's colic. Other mums here have mentioned baby exercise such as laying the baby on their tummy or moving their legs in cycle motions. So it's up to you to decide which method you want to try.

But is he getting laid regularly?

See, all men think women are hardworking creatures who were trained from birth to not only wash clothes, clean the house and cook, but to do all of that HAPPILY. In their minds, they think you are complaining because you want to make them feel guilty. They have been told all their lives that nothing makes a woman happier than to spend her entire day chasing her babies and scrubbing the pots till they shine and spending their nights loving him till he screams.

So show him you are tired: if the house is dirty, let it be dirty. If dinner is late, let it be late, infact tell him "honey I'm planning on having a headache next week saturday so no show". If he threatens to cheat, laugh and ask him if he really wants to be wasting money in this era of Change. With time, he will realise you're a human and help out. When he does, reward him in bed.

times but it didn't work for me until I tried the silverbird method.

I don't know why people insist on this method. The bottle clearly states that it should not be rubbed on the skin. And then people pour it on the fontanelle of a baby which is the most exposed part of a baby.

Use the hot (warm) water system and add the silverbird to the water. Or put it on a cotton ball and hold it near LOs nose.

Massage his tummy especially the navel area. Do this morning and evening, put a piece of cloth in hot water squeeze and gently place it, remove and place again. This was what worked for me, I didn't use any medicine.

Attached is a picture of the instructions enclosed in the pack of silverbird. I have also attached pictures of the pack and also the bottle.

Kindly point out to me where the manufacturers have stated that the oil should not be applied on the skin. undecided undecided If you want to criticise, at least be factual about it.

I have said it countless times on this thread that anything I post is what works for me. It's not mandatory for anyone to go with my method biko.

I don't think so, should be from 6 months.

cc: Zaynie.

Also, another home remedy for cough is steaming without adding anything, let them inhale the hot steam, it works better when they cry so that the steam touch their throat. This has been my solution and its working for me. Also, that system is prescribed by a friend Dr.

OK, thank you ma

Hey mamas, how did our weekend go?

I know we are all looking for activities for our kids and I hope we are still reading. Baby E is now sounding out Numbers (1 to 7) by herself and sings "Twinkle Little Star" like an Opera singer (she likes hitting the high notes at the end of the line "what you are!"wink. Here are 2 more DIY activities we can do for our kids, one teaches them numbers and alphabets, the other is good for teaching shapes. For the one teaching shapes, all you need is a cardboard, some pieces of cardboard and stick velcro to the back and front (velcro is like N100 to N200 per yard and that is more than enough to make this project. If you can get craft foam paper (it used to be N500 for 30 or more pieces), it works better for the shapes and it is already coloured and flexible for bending and is soft and not easy to chew off bits for munchy babies. The economy may be bad doesn't mean we can neglect mental development and these are easy and affordable. Baby E was disturbing everyone today to I mixed edible paint, gave her paper and that kept her quiet till bathtime this evening. HTH.
