So, i visited Lindeikeji's blog from time to time and i come across her posts about coming up with something new with the acronym "LIS" and there was even a time she told people to guess what the acronym means and most of the comments were saying "Linda Ikeji Studio". I think many people thought it was a studio because she has always talked a lot about starting her own production company/studio. Anyways, i visited her site today to see about three posts where she introduced LIS as Linda Ikeji Social and i just needed to check it out. I've been followingp this lady's career almost about the same time Nairaland started and i'm always happy whenever she makes a big leap. Infact, i dey happy pass her sef. Anyways, i just wanted to check out the social site and here are a few things i encounted before actually logging in.

1. It looks like facebook: Isn't this like the first rule when building a social media site?

2. I registered and was asked to activate my account in my email but I waited for 30 minutes and I didn't see any email. I even Checked my spam but nothing. I even clicked on resend email but nada. Só, I tried logging in and I was told that I have tried logging in too many times and I should wait for bla bla bla seconds before I can login. Even though that was the first time I was logging in.

I didn't get to login so I don't know how the inside looks like but I hope it's promising cos I read where she said that it's a convergence of social media and blogging and I think I heard her mention something about eBay. Is it also a shopping site too?

Let me sha wait to see if they will end up sending my the email. I'll be back.

Update

After waiting for more than one hour, the activation email arrived and i activated. I had a bit of a problem logging in on my mobile device but after a few tries, i was able to login. But i still can't login on the desktop version as i keep getting the error.

I have finally been able to login. Let it be said here that, no new social media site in Nigeria can sweep me off my feet. Those that i have registered under was just for me to access them rather than having a liking for them. Even the largest social media site in NIgeria, Yookos (i think so) did not impress me. It was just same same. Nothing new to jolly about. Plus everything on the site just seemed cramped up at the time. After registering some years ago, i never stepped foot there. I actually don't know what the site looks like now.

I had a liking to LIS even before checking it out just because of my bias nature. It's freaking LindaIkeji. I like her and like seeing her succeed nuff said.

So, i enter the member area and i see a social media/network version of her blog and i'm like OOOOK. It's cool actually but not something we've not seen before. I also made a post and created a page. Apparently, she has mot features that facebook has. She probably used a facebook script.

One thing i like is the fact that it's not a conventional social site. She uses it to promote her blog and also allows other writers to submit their stories and be paid for them (not confirmed). You can also shop on there and i think that's where i saw her saying something about ebay. It's very similar to ebay. You can buy and sell on her site.

All in all, the site is OK for a start but she fix the problem of people receiving their activation emails very late and her login has to be worked on as this can dissuade a lot of people from the site.

I think the site will have a lot of membership due to her already popular brand (linikejisblog). it remains to be seen if the site will become a force to be reckoned with or if it will just be a Nigerian version of Google+.

I was like, this lady wan kill bloggers career. I also want to suggest her IT team needs to be on their toes now... Nigerians, hackers, Africans will want to test their prowness... They cant hack her all these years cos she was under google, now that she is alone... hmmm, I hope they caan stand the heat and she sabi look for trouble.

LindaIkeji has had it good all these years apart from when her blog was shutdown by google. But she has never been tested from the outide. Meaning that all this while she has been protected by the google umbrella. Let's see how she can shield her business from the evil machinations of some unscrupulous entities. I hope she has a good IT team to help her.

Are you serious about the 1k per story ish? O boy, small small bloggers don suffer. many of them will just have to abandon their own stuff to write for Linda Ikeji. It's easy money in my opinion.

Yes oo.. she has been shieded by Google's platform, Blogger.. You have to be google to hack google itself. I think that 1k per story is rubbish on my own part. Bloggers have to hustle for exclusives now and you have to watermark all your pictures which will be too bad.

Like I said, I hope her IT team are up for real work. Madam Kemi has been venting on twitter now, calling her a scammer (LOL), I can't laugh oo..

And why are the mods reluctant in moving this post to frontpage. Forget that Linda has influence..and the hype of Launch is still fresh..Its same Old stuff and people will soon get tired and crawl right back to fb,Nl,snap and wherever they came from.

You just nailed it... I think the part she may use to attract people is getting your stories for 1k.. People will be hoarding news and pictures now, Bloggers too will find stories tire, imagine if all news are been watermarked with logos and exclusives.. Its bad for blogging..

Trust me they will reject many news and then the wailing wailers will cry wolf and call her scammer, especially if her engineers are not up to task in processing payouts

Like someone said let's hope this won't be another Google+. Building a social network is pretty more than just getting many people to sign up fast. I still believe slowly is the way to it. But anyway Nigeria really needs a local social network. Something I have been trying at PN

Linda was just lucky that her brains twitched to starting a blog in the reality of her failed modelling career. Starting a social media site for news reporting is a very abysmal idea that wont go far one bit.

Guy, why should they sign up? Must everyone sign up for something simply because it is a new thing, or simply because they work in the same industry, or are you just trying to promote LIS here? I agree with Afam4eva's submission. There is nothing fantastic, or really great about LIS. It is the same old tired & dusted up thing. Nothing exceptionally creative about her site. I will give it a pass.
