blood of moses... what is this the parents are to blame for this
genetic malfunctioning ... is good to treat infection before u consider going into family way, and routine checkup would have detect this on time, in this kind of case aborting the foetus is necessary, I can't bring a child into this world to suffer for a sin he/she knw nothing about,
I doubt if the mother ever went to
Antenatal care , Hausa women are daft and ignorance, she won't go for ultra scan and Antenatal care until the day of her delivery, visiting gynecologist often is necessary because it will be monitoring the development of the foetus in the womb.... human right should sue that woman for negligence

They could be right madam. It is likely the effect of unsuccessful attempts via drug usage taken by the mom to undo the baby.

Or are you in your almighty intellectual sense saying that this is genetic? ie that someone in the lineage of this baby had this condition?

You need to check up the definition of genetics and of heredity. You seem to be mixing them up

SMH. Sadly superstitious beliefs aren't helping us in anyway. Kindly see the comment below and do your own research to gain some little knowledge. It wouldn't harm you undecided

FullDepth1:
It's in cases like this you'd appreciate Medical Science.

Some parts of the illiterate world, they'd term this as failed abortion or even witchcraft.

I've seen this very rare case, and it's termed "Harlequin Ichthyosis". Basically a skin disorder during formation. The skin is so hard, firming shapes that are separated by fissures known as deep cracks.

This should be Nigeria's first case, (that I've heard of/seen)

1 in about 500,000 births globally.

On behalf of all Hausa women, I must say, you are very stupid undecided because the baby was born in a kaduna hospital, you then concluded dat all Hausa women..... Take ur time...

And for the record, it's IGNORANT, not the poo u wrote there..

This nonsense you dropped here has no bearing with the condition of this innocent sweet baby, this is a genetic malfunctioning and could happen to anyone..

Her condition is not strange to the medical world (Maybe in Nigeria) but certainly well know and research are going on in many international labs as we write to really discover why the genes could distort to this extent..

Please show some intellectual decorum, if you understand that word.. Mtsheeww!
u still did not mention the name. it's called Harlequin baby. the disorder is ichthyosis. it's a very severe and rare medical disorder found in some very few fetus

ignorance instead (ignorant), typographical errors, let's face the bitter truth 85% of Hausa/Fulani women are illiterate The problem is cultural, religious
and institutional. Western
education until recently didn‘t
mean much to the northerners
which explains why there are
many school dropouts and
ofcourse the ever ubiquitous
almajiris. They are catching up
though but me thinks it will be yrs
before they can be discussed in
the same breath with the
southerners. AS many as 85% of female
children across northern Nigeria
are being denied access to
secondary school education
according to recent statistics “Only 3% of females complete
secondary education in northern
Nigeria. Now how do you build the
country when 93% of the girls in
the most populous region of the
country do not complete
secondary schools?" in
Northern Nigeria.
Over the years the cultural norm
of rural Dwellers is strictly on
Traditional Birth assistant (TBA)
,the pregnant women believed so
much in the traditional way of
giving birth in their respective
villages with great consequences
to follow.
These Birth attendants are not
equipped with the necessary
machinery to aid delivery, the
women are exposed to high risk
of Loss of blood, Still birth,
diseases, Death, due to the
unprofessionality of these Birth
attendants... u are still a boy I would have go further

That's the skin condition called Harlequin Ichthyosis. It's an autosomal recessive disorder, meaning to suffer from it, the child's parents both have the abnormal gene( meaning they are likely to be of same ancestor) say no to Incest!

"aure dengi" marriage between cousins as widely practiced by northern Muslims

This is a teraton, literally speaking, a monster.
Could be caused by many factors, the most likely of which is genetic mutation from environmental assault. As in from stuffs the mother took in her first trimester which inhibited the proper development of the baby. Those stuffs could include unprescribed medications, herbal concs, alcohol, overexposure to radiation and industrial chemicals etc
Could also be caused by infections in utero which weren't treated properly.
On the surface, only the skin appears affected but on proper evaluation, it's go'nn be a multisystemic problem.
In summary, this condition isn't compatible with life and the baby wouldnt survive beyond a day or two

U're wrong sire.
Pls check up

If that baby's father is as ignorant as some men are here, the mother would be accused of attempting abortion and being a witch too.
