I watched a video of how they died during play, it was really touching.

Rip, to the dead. They should try as much as possible to live a healthy lifestyle.

When people like Ronaldo, bale, ribery, chicarito, Fletcher and many other players out there stay away from alcohol, they knew exactly what they were doing.

One's heart can even fail as a result of fear and anxiety. I once watched a footballer who died on the pitch when he was jubilating for taking his team out of relegation

And that is exactly the issue. The intensity at which professional footballers train, play and take all sorts of drugs puts tremendous strain on the human heart. They are much more prone to suffering heart attacks than the average individual.

Fitness coach can only assess physical fitness for a match. When players are not returning from injury or other special situations, the assessment is just routine.

I think the question should be why have players not been undergoing extensive cardiovascular health assessment at regular intervals, to be conducted by cardiologists & paid for/co-ordinated by their club sides. They do during signing/transfer medical and recently more regularly but not universal or extensive enough.
Sure it would cost a lot of money for smaller & amateur clubs to screen every player regularly & extensively.

BUT even after screening, an apparently healthy person can still collapse suddenly. Because screening cannot exactly replicate the stress during a match.
