Other African countries with over 1,000 students in the US during the period include Ghana with 3,049, Kenya with 3,019 and South Africa with 1,813 according to a 2016 Open Doors Report on the International Educational Exchange.

There are over a million international students at US colleges and universities for the first time in history during the 2015-2016 academic year, an increase of seven per cent from the previous year to anew high of nearly 1,044,000 students reports Today.

Nigeria is 14th world wide with the highest numbers of international students in the US. The West African nation has the highest numbers since the 1986 – 87. 50.8 percent of the Nigerian students were pursuing their undergraduate, 35.4 percent their graduate studies, 11.5 percent Optional practical training and 2 percent on short term studies.

1.we are over 180million in population and the closest in africa is like 70m or 60m.

2.our education system is in shambles...ASUU is on warning strike now and no clear education policy.

3.our lecturing system is outdated, imagine still difficult to fined a university using projectors in class. and poor infrastructure

4.imagine my lecturer in school who have been in school for over 25years and still lecturing with masters degree...i am about to catchup with it

5.my 3 ogas in EKSU all sent their kids abroad,while they messup with students result in nigeria...and one told me clearly that if i want quality education that i should go abroad...its just like shoprite manager telling me to go buy rice in kilomanjaro eatery if i want the best.

Somebody is already accusing buhari up there!!! Since time immemorial, many Nigerians have always travelled to study overseas-even when our universities were among the best globally. It is normal, considering the population of Nigeria, we must have high density of people who prefer to study outside the country.
