It's good to see that the members of the Senate have some respect for private property rights, even if Buhari's government seems not to understand what that means. Seizing the funds of private citizens is nothing other than theft, unless it can be shown that the funds in question were earned illegally.

Countries with sensible monetary policies have no need to send security agents to ransack peoples houses for foreign exchange; only in basket-cases like Zimbabwe and Venezuela does one see such things going on. If anyone ever doubted that Buhari is utterly ignorant of economics, this latest nonsensical policy is all the proof one requires. Its only result will be to worsen the shortage of foreign exchange, as now no one will want to take the risk of having their remitted forex seized by the government on a flimsy pretext.
I follow your argument. It is just that Nigeria is peculiar in so many respects. We do things that are abnormal and things you wont hear off anywhere else. It is only in Nigeria that a state governor can corner a big part of his state's money, change it to dollars and keep in his house! Or where else will a judge keep one million dollars in his house. CBN is not seizing funds that are kept in the bank. They are just looking to get the dollars into the banking system, not in roofs and wardrobes!

Will moral suasion work? I dont think so.

We have become more of a mafia state, where the rich are very lawless. Miltancy and terrorism is funded with dollars kept in houses.

Of course, the senators will reject it. How else will they keep their 'sharings'?

I think Nigeria cannot afford extreme liberalism. It has not worked and may never work.

No one knows how much of SUD is sitting in homes of Nigerians, particular government workers, leaders and civil servants! As long as we save in USD and keep the USD in homes, our Naira will continue to suffer.

Whoever came up with that idea in the first place? If I want to keep my dollars under my bed whose business is that? if it becomes $1 to N1 in the process, that is a risk I should be willing to bear on my own. angry

I'm still waiting for something to shock me as far as being clueless is concerned from this government. Same way I'm still waiting for something to make me think they've got a clue about what they are doing.

While your point is valid, a loose ended law like the one being proposed is not the answer. If anyone is suspected of stealing public funds, let them be investigated and prosecuted just like the case of the judges who are currently under investigation.

Dollar is not our legal tender. If you do legit business in dollars, i dont see why you will need to hold it for so long without it being tagged "speculation".

What's tha business?
Is speculation a crime? Why should government dictate the mode I should hold my assets?

Bro. I said this for long time that buhari is a curse to Nigeria APC a taboo for Nigeria. Buhari is set to ruin nigeria completely. Nigeria has not seen anything yet buhari as a person is a demonstration and elected demons around him people with pity or mercy people with twisted brain and heart I bet it soon nigeria will be round up in the street and arrest or shot for no reason or for committing offense of section 1 of 1 of buhari that say you should not walk around freely without pass or permission.

More us still loading they have concluded plans to cage everybody but that will fail woefully. How can a sane person if not madness says you want to punish someone for having forex is that not madness.

Why would anyone tell me how quickly l should dispose-off my money?

Emefiele is really either confused or is a Mole out to destroy Buhari's Govt.
The guy has been doing all sort of policy somersault since day one.

Whether it is Naira or Dollar, a private citizen is entitled to hold onto their money as they wish... they can even dash it to armed robbers if they want.
Its my Money, Govt should F-off

Most Nigerians are ignorant of the antics of politicians, over the years politicians convert looted funds to foreign currencies especially dollars, this is the number one reason why there is scarcity of dollars in this country hence the level of hardship.Let me say it categorically that our legislators at any level do not support anything that will not benefit them and will surely argue vehemently against anything that will affect them adversely. Why are they not interested in the falling educational standard? The answer is very simple, most of their children and wards are studying abroad, are we not constantly seeing their matriculation and convocation ceremonies on social media. It is high time Nigerians knew they are not there for them,if they argue let them pass the bill and 99% of them will go to jail, whether they like it let them keep on postponing the evil day,one day Nigerians will visit them in prison because of the curses they receive from the masses.
