It's not a ripoff of the Statue of Liberty.
" Before she had been in the country very long, she had learnt all the secrets of her enemies. She found that they were not gods but ordinary men. On going into battle they wore strange mantles of grass and bamboo fibre, and this accounted for their unnatural appearance. She also learned that because of these mantles of dry grass, they were much afraid of fire, and that if the Ifes were to rush among them with lighted torches, they would quickly be defeated. As soon as it was possible, she escaped from the palace and from the territory of the Igbos and returned to her own people. Her tidings were joyfully received at Ile-Ife, and shortly afterwards the Igbos were utterly defeated by the trick Moremi had suggested."

You see what I'm talking about

Didn't he take the contract

Not interested in all your to and fro.
What is the relationship between a new Moremi statue and Ife-Ibadan express?
And where is your proof that road contract what awarded to the Oba?
Do you think a road that lasts 10 years in a place like Sokoto will last 3 in a place like Ibadan-Ife... Use your sense here.

The road has been the same for as long as I could remember

Don't you think it's been due for at least a repair.
I'm not even talking of starting all over again

Tourist destination? Where is the infrastructure on ground to accomodate the tourists? Village Ife with its delapidated roads and hotels? Little power supply? Zero shopping malls?
Abeg go sleep.

Hmm, the journey of a thousand mile begins in a day... at least, it's a right way to start.

I don't know why people are spamming Statue of Liberty all over the thread when the idea of the statue was inspired by ancient Nubia monuments and the original statue was a Nubian/black peasant and the statue was originally built for the Suez Canal in Egypt before it found its way to America.

Art always imitate art and the fact that this statue represents a black woman shows it's more original than the current Statue of Liberty cos the original one was a Nubian woman.

Some of fvckers need fresh air - no one wants to read about some fraudulent Statue of Liberty here. This is about Ife.

Besides, Moremi was a real historical figure and her torch has a real historical meaning.

I hope this will remind our pseudo feminists who parrot Oyinbo's idiocy that African women are oppressed & were always. Africa has always produced great women. Like Moremi, Idia, Amina, Efunroye (Tinubu) and many more lost to history now.

For our independence struggle we have Funmilayo, Eniola (Soyinka), Margret (Ekpo), Mary (Okezie), Hajia Gambo Sawaba, etc.

I deliberately use their first name because I think they ought to be popular and household names and be instantly recognisable even by first name. The name they were called playing around & growing up as little girls. Much like Beyonce is known everywhere even by just first name.

Yoruba women were and are still today raised to be strong and the definition of feminism. That is why they are hated. Weak men don't understand it. But they are as much warriors as their men. Many many strong females Yoruba figures in history. The thing is Nigerian government tries to distort history. Efunsetan and madam Tinubu alone were like 10 men in one woman.

Good one Kabiyesi - ade a pe lori bata a pe lese. Even if it doesn't provide employment for people, at least it has provided employment for the Engineers and other contractors who partake in constructing it.

Don't waste ya time on that illiterate faggit, he is an Eboe cannibal (I just checked his post history). Apart from cannibalism; sodomising little kids like the thread on FP; molesting little girls; and pure phaggotry - these flat headed monsters don't have a culture.

These clowns just erected a big statue of white Mary last year when all over Rome and in the Vatican, they pray to a black Madonna. They're an accursed people lol. But they want to hate on a great statue that represents history and can be used for tourism.

Eboe cannibals are just useless and primitive. They're the real homo habilis from the Hominini tribe. grin

This is what I love to see. The promotion of our culture. This ooni is doing a great job. More grease to his elbow.

YourNemesis:
Woow!... Its beautiful.
Yorubas are synonymous with true African culture.
A real African people who are both inward looking and world embracing.

All of you saying this statue is a copy of the liberty statue in New York, are all Wrong, because Yorubas don't copy anybody when it comes to cultural stuff. This is the original and much older statue, located within the Ooni of ife palatial complex.

Some EP.s are so silly. The only similarity between the moremi statue and that silly caucasian woman in NYC is that they are both raising their hands. Nothing more. Always wanting to link everything in Africa to external influences.

Even the statue of liberty was copied from an African statue in Serria Leone or Liberia I think.

Don't wanna step on any toe, but I don't think anyone is going to 'troop' into the state just to see this statue. I don't think many people understand Nigeria's main selling points or in general African and other countries points and attractions they use in selling tourism. Nigeria's should be original culture and nature and wildlife, this isn't it.

Still it's better than that nonsense white Jesus statue they built in the east somewhere.

Ogbeni, oyibo no dey dat mumu. Abi u think they dnt have beta statues for oyiboland?

It's called religious or cultural tourism. They've got awesome theme parks like Disney, sea world, magic world, why would they spend more by going to Calabar?
Lots of these whites that I've met personally are fascinated by the stories of heroines like Moremi, Queen Amina, Madam Tinubu. Also, some of them are crazy about the pantheons and legends of the Yoruba culture and would come to Nigeria for some kind of religious tourism. You see, you cannot create, for example, a Sango or Yemoja theme park in Orlando Florida, it'll be a hard sell. It has to be where the legend said they actually lived.

Yes. Read about her.

A lot of these overgrown idiots on this forum are uneducated louts. Most of them don't even read and they expose themselves every time they post. I'm sure none of them know what Lady Liberty represents and its origin. Yet they keep spamming the thread with it.

Imagine the other clown asking if he's still in the era of statues when former NBA players who're legends are getting statues erected for them...Shaq just got one this year at the staples centre and Kobe should get one as well in the next few years. The Queen would get a big statue when she dies as well. They don't even know the symbolism of statues, yet they always feel the need to post their illiterate opinions everywhere.

These folks are the most backward and dumbest people on the planet. The ignorance is just appalling most times.
