OPCNAIRALAND:
Is it possible for my people to understand that not everyone in uniform is mandated to give salute?

Firefighters are a civilian component of civil service and in times of emergency they form a protective brigade to secure life and property against fire, chemical and othe flammables and incendiaries but they are excluded from military or para military corps. As such they are not required to give salutes.

As part of civic lessons and awareness, citizens also must understand, moreso now that we have multi-layers and redundancy in uniformed personnels, what each uniformed agency does and so they are not exploited unecessarily by men using uniform to intimidate and extort or commit crimes.

In my honest opinion, Nigeria has waaaaaay too many uniformed personnel. I remember going to the airport and seeing multiple staff with different uniforms and thinking to myself that this is way too much bureaucracy.

Firefighters are paramilitaries . Salute is required for every paramilitary group

Maybe they will borrow water from those who have boreholes since most areas of Lagos state are without ordinary tap water despite over 17 years of progreTHIEF administration by Tinubu, Fashola and Ambode? Who knows?
What type of prioritisation hires 100 firemen without first providing ordinary tap water that will hire X,000s of people to maintain the utility and collect water bills payment?
Why should we praise such mis-governance?
Why?

When I went to Naija after many years of not being home what I witnessed at the airport was a mess. So many agencies with different uniforms milling around either doing nothing or doing the same thing. Talk about confusion.

No. I know that Lagos is not Ekiti or Kwara.
I also know that Lagos state does not have ordinary tap water in most homes, schools, health clinics & hospitals, religious places of worship etc. Is that not part of the reason for the city to be labelled as the 3rd worst city in the world?
Did you think about that?

There's something I don't understand. Why are dere mango trees around fire offices in Nigeria. Also most firemen in Nigeria are experts in playing draughts. Is it a compulsory skill they must learn as firemen in Nigeria?

It obvious you not living in Lagos or you looking for cheap likes for that statement of yours

Now let me educate you a bit, all agencies in Lagos state starting from LASTMA, LASEMA, Firefighters, LASAMBUS, KIA Neighborhood Watch, are all very effective when it comes to emergency. If there is any emergency in Lagos, federal agencies look up to Lagos state government to help them out.

Next time think before displaying your ignorance on the Internet.

Google is your friend. Google and see the physical requirements of firefighters even if you've never seen a real one. S

Apart from fighting fires, you have to be able to lift heavy human beings.

You can make your point without trading insults, but I'm not going to stoop to your very low level.

There have been many occasions in LAGOS when the fire fighters got to the fire venue and ran out of water. These agencies that you have mentioned are so efficient, that's why they keep embarrassing motorists and obtaining money from them. Are you sure you live in Lagos?
The recent fire at Yaba, why don't you go and speak to the residents of the burnt campus and tell them about the efficiency of the Nigerian Firefighters.
A problem can never be solved if the owner doesn't recognise that there is one in the first place. That's why Nigeria is still behind. The only places that are looked after in Lagos are the rich areas like Lekki and the islands. That is not a representation of the population.
So before you come here and talk about ignorance, look a bit closer to home.

Most of the agencies you listed are doing the work of LGAs.
Do you know why the LGAs are so redundant despite all the federal allocation that they receive monthly plus their share of the state's IGR as well as their own revenue generated from tenement rates, market stall fees, fines etc?
Why is the LGA not working to the extent that the state is doing its work?

Thanks a lot for your great points.
I don't know why Lagosians who have any sense will be happy with the news of hiring 100 firemen when the entire state does not have water? Can a wise person put the cart before the horse?
Even Lekki and the Islands don't all have regular, steady tap water supply.

Lagos is really moving forward. The only thing the useless state that surrounds Lagos could do was to install an archaic signboard that says Welcome and Goodbye to Ogun state while Lagos state government is changing the face of Ojodu-Berger. I think I should make a thread about this.
