Some Nigerians can not be trusted. I made the same mistake too for over 500k, DPO called him and was saying trash, he refunded 100k after a while, changed his line and dashed into thin air since then. With his BVN he is a goner. Waiting for him to relax and give him benefit of doubt before I arrest him. Some people just like been pushed. OP, don't argue with him, just let him understand the importance of BVN and he will find a way to refund your money asap. I detest thieves

Please how do i get a criminals BVN

Not at all. I believe I won the debate. In my opinion, I think the OP is stupid and not just careless. However you look at it, who sends money to someone without cross-checking the recipient ? I am not interested in what is good or what is bad. That is left for the courts. My responsibility is to air my opinion on a legal stand point and allow you guys to make a conscience call. I think we belong to different schools of thoughts but the offending thing is many people not making educated attempt to respect others opinion. That itself speaks volumes on why many people are under the poverty radar here and can barely feed themselves.

You're talking like a real idiot that you are. You're a plague, a criminal, good for nothing, self serving, evil person. This same thing has happened to someone I know and luckily for him I happened to know the other person he sent the money to. It only took a phone call and the money was returned. Anybody can make mistakes.

for all those justifying the op's act due to hardship and recession, a very big shame to all of you.

if he's not a thief, the thing to do is return all that money no matter how broke he claimed to be to the owner.

that's how people attract all sorts to themselves, then blame devil when they are caught stealing.

First I must say you made a terrible mistake by paying into wrong account. But first I have a few question for you. Is the account name the same with the one you intend to pay into if No why where you not told by the bank teller that the name of account does not correspond? Secondly when you notice the mistake why didn't you go straight to the bank where the money was paid in and complain rather that waiting endlessly for customer service?
My point now is this, we are in the era of BVN where their is no place to hide for criminals for those who truly know their right. Go back to the bank where you made the payment and ask them politely to help you trace the said guy if he refuse to okay back your money. I bet you if you are polite enough they will. You can also go the his own bank and an alert will be pull through to other banks in case he intend to abandon that account to open another one. Try this and let see how far that help

Read una nor go read. Just fly into conclusions. OP made a transfer. And he is not the first to make a mistake while making a transfer

There is a price for every mistake. I hope you dont expect me to pity you for making such a mistake. All you needed to do was to exercise patience and continue playing around with the guy until he refunds the money.

Now that you have exposed the guy's photo on social media and called him a thief, and also exposed his phone number. You should seriously pray that the guy doesnt take you to court and have you imprisoned. 53,000 naira is not money compared to the damages on his person and he can claim character assassination, loss of faith from his clients, loss of reputation and loss of business due to trust issues consequence upon your action. His story is believable and very clever. This is not about conscience, its about word play.

He can cleverly pay an old woman (if his version was a lie) to pose as the woman that expected the cash and he will win in court. Some of you dont know how to use your initiatives. This is counter-intituitive. No be everything dem dey use common-sense.

I hope you dont go to jail and pay hefty sum for this.

Lol. You made no sense!!! Chia!!!

That theif never had the intentions of returning the money, trust me his friends are even the one encouraging him to do this poo.

Report the case to the authorities as it's a clear case of theft

The authorities can either block all the accounts linked to his BVN or stop him from opening another bank account with the same BVN

Which Authorities...Police? That's like jumping from frying pan to fire!! By the time Nigerian Police finish with you, you will think you were the one who took another man's money. They will 1st of all collect the N25K he returned as "evidence", then you will waste all your money swearing affidavit, bank will tell you you need police report, because you are the one who transferred the money with your own hands, police will tell you police report costs money (i am telling you from experience). You will waste the little you have and time reporting back and forth to station, paying the same policemen to speed up the investigation. In the end the same policemen will give him the same advice I am giving you "continue to appeal to the guy to return your money but don't expect anything, put it down to experience/lesson learnt and be careful next time you send money"

Nigerians are amazing. The integrity level is just too low. What can't all of you (theives and supporters club) learn form good stories like the following.

It was sometimes July, 2012 back @ Rivers State NYSC Camp. Then came the time for payment of first allawee (normally paid during the orientation program). Corps members were directed to come in 5s to collect theirs. So, we'd to randomly arrange ourselves in 5, some go with their friends and acquaintances in camp. The officer in charge paid each group with a bundle of 100,000 NGN and return #1000, leaving #99k or #19.8k each. This payment most continue till night fall daily and the crowd plus the long queues. Personally, I took a chill pill for the first two days cos I know I'll surely be paid.
One of the late evenings it happened that one of my hostel neighbors (our banks were side by side) and camp gang member (we did almost everything together especially mammy market things) went with his group to collect theirs. The paying officer mistakenly (no one is immune) gave him two bundles and my guy returned 1k, paid his guys and they left. I must mention that the person who hold his grounds that he have change to pay the rest normally collects the money. So, the other guys left and my friend quietly returned the 100k to the Nysc official. Imagine, for once that no one knew what ensued, he could have quietly walk away as well.
Next morning, my ibo friend (sorry i didn't say initially) was called out and honored during the parade. I'll never forget him also because he was the guy who bought two bottles of Gulder for me in camp. That was my first and last time of tasting that beer cos I was sick afterwards till two weeks after camp though I can't really attribute it to the beer or my blood donation to the Nigerian Army.

This thread should give you an idea of the kind of discussions and debates that followed. You'll almost believe this country will never change and I'm tired of prayers.

Please, let all of us repent from our shortcomings and represent this country better.

Wat a shame. Meanwhile a young guy just told me how a lady he had never met before begged to use his account to do a transfer while at the bank.

He agreed and the lady sent 1,500,000 to his account while he waited. He even walked out of the bank to buy airtime and the lady remained calm.

According to him, he heard voices (devils of course) asking him to run and do an immediate transfer with his mobile app, and contact his banker friend to close the account, but he refused.

He came back to the bank and continued waiting. While there, his yahoo yahoo friend came in and told him. "Ol boy run!" and when he refused, called him fool, mumu etc.

According to him, he feared God and couldn't imagine betraying such trust.
That's it. Even if I don't know if I really fear God, I can't betray such trust. Thanks to my upbringing.

I am not holding forte for the accused and I am certainly blaming the OP for such careless and mistakes. Most of you still believe that no one is above mistake, Yes ? But you must pay the price and learn from it.

Scammers ? How did he scam him anyway? And how did he steal ? Keep emotion aside. No one talks about emotion in court. Its evidence-based trial. So, Alanposh, I think you need to go to the nearest police station and file a report. Make sure the case goes to court and lets see who goes to jail. After that, we can conclude if life is fair. It isnt. People who make mistakes pay great prices. Diplomacy is all you need to survive on Earth.
File what report exactly?

Bro, dont let anyone u dont know use ur account for any transfer of any kind. Many times its a ploy from scammers. After accessing someone's account, they look for any one they can lure sometimes enticing you with a percentage. Once the deal is done, they are gone, and sooner, you will see SARS in your house.
There was the guy that does Asun in a joint i go to, we already paid him in full to come do Asun the following weekend at a party. The day came, we didn't see him. Everyone was angry waiting to catch him and just beeat him up or something, not knowing he was cooling down in Panti. They came to pick him in Ibadan from Lagos. He said some guys came to drink, and begged him they misplaced thier ATM, and they want to quickly make a transfer to his account, and he should help them withdraw it and pay for the drinks with POS and told him to keep 20k. Boys he nor know, dem finish all transaction, dem waka dem own until police con carry am for House.

He told you that he was expecting 50k too when the money entered grin
No be the guy say make you mumu go send money to him account. undecided

You should be happy that he is even giving you attention,
Relax and give him some time cheesy

the guy is lying

1.he said his account was to be used as proxy to recieve cash for a woman

meaning it's d woman he knows & not the sender

the woman was expecting 50k, he got an alert of 53k

when ur account is to be used as proxy, when funds get in, the intended recipient will usually be d one to call to notify u that the money has been paid & d amount

if d above doesnt happen, u d owner of the account will call the recipient to confirm if d Alert u just received was from her contact ESPECIALLY when d expected amount varies from the received amount.

the bank can freeze his account & he can go further to see to it that his BVN is flagged & all accounts tied to it has "post no debit"

Please report that criminal to police and account officer... ANYBODY that supports his actions is a BIG thief...yes you made a mistake, that doesn't mean you don't need the money...
In fact, even if you don't need the money anymore, report him. It is sickening hearing all this people saying he tried and sent some back...
I am glad you know the story he gave you about the old woman is rubbish... if i were the one, when he starts telling me about the lady, i will report him to police, foolish thief...

I have said it before, that guy is nice to have returned 25,000 out of the money. Otherwise he would have pocketed the whole money.

Instead of all this threaten here and there, he should have restored into begging.

That guy need money seriously, otherwise he would have not touched a dime. If this op have patient he will c that this man will fulfil his promise.

I think there is a reason those people who received money from Dasuki are being prosecuted. If money enters your account and you spend it you are implying that you own it and in a case where it is the proceeds of crime you are liable for receiving such. In the case of an erroneous credit you have NO CHOICE but to refund less any bank charges .Failure to do so is theft.

I do not believe we would be having this conversation if it was government money or a more serious amount of money involved.Someone would be behind bars by now

Can you proof it was a lie ? Even if we know it is a lie, that is not how the law sees events. The law is blind to conscience and deals with facts. That is the angle I view things in the world. I do not think many of you have ever gone to courts before in your life and many of you do not even read law journals. Until you do, stop making assertions based on conscience and common-sense. The law does not recognize common-sense based opinion. That is my angle. You can choose to be emotional and take this personal. It is your business not mine. I do not need friends from this forum, I have great friends offline who respect opinions and we are doing just great.
If my goat walks into your yard and you kill it and eat it it is theft. You do not need to come to my yard to steal it.

Stop talking ignorantly about the law. This EXACT SCENARIO has been before the courts before. That is why there is Google. Educate your self and stop taking pride in ignorance
