The current governor has been pushing Aba products heavily, something that never occurred to the two morons that came before him. This is the first governor with any form of initiative in Abia state history. |

I use made in aba shoes, when I was in port Harcourt, these shoes are really really nice, I Still have them till today, durable ( the gum and everything). just that the leather covering of the shoe starts peeling off after 4-5 years. BT 4-5 years is enough for a shoe bought at the rate of 1000 to 1,500.(not in ariaria itself ooo). there are some shoes u buy for 15 to 20k that won't last 7 walking ( not working) days. so more grease to their elbow. |

Tolexander:Must the governors be blamed all the time? Why can't some of these shoe makers form partnership, contribute money and upgrade their machines and expand their businesses. They should invest, send people to Italy, Brazil to update their knowledge, start leather processing factories to complement their shoe making industries. |

Kc3000:I remember that Okonjo Iweala took some world bank officials to Aba and even arranged meetings with the governor and nothing came out of it. Geometric Power Systems invested in electricity in Aba and the business was frustrated till GEJ left office. |

izzy4shizzy:This goes both ways. You've got a point but then, you've got to look at profit margin too. A grant or investment (we hardly do investments here except for the tech start-ups in recent times) will boost his output and also, help manage his business properly while he focuses on overseeing manufacturing/production. |
| Re: Aba: We Struggle To Produce Made-in-nigeria Shoes by Nobody: 8:08am On Dec 03, 2016 |
Rextayne:I think the issue here is that Aba shoe industry is a conglomerate of shoemakers. Out of over 70,000 shoe makers, it's a shame that not a single big and trusted name stands out. All we hear in the media is 'Aba made'. This is an opportunity for them to stand out, brand, advertise, market their services and stand out like the shop rites, Versace, coscharis etc. If I wanted to buy Aba shoe and I'm in maiduguri, who do I approach? Where do I go to? Can I order Aba made shoe online from a trusted shoemaker? Are they online with their individual websites? If I was there, I'd want to sell myself and stand out from the crowd. It will take one bad shoe maker to mar the reputation of other seasoned and reliable shoe makers and that's because they are branded as one enterprise 'Aba made' |

nams77:There are also bigger solutions. They need current machinery, and little more trainings. Our shoes must be 100% made in Nigeria, not raw materials sourced from somewhere else. Let the finishing touches end in Nigeria too. That can only happen wen Government understand what's happening there |

gbosaa:See Omar12's comment above and let's talk about profit margin per unit multiplied by daily production capacity. Trust me, they need someone/some people with deep pocket. My neighbour makes shoes but that's just enough to get by on a daily basis and get other necessary stuff; I'm thinking of investing indirectly (not directly) within the next 12-15 months. |
