Non sense FG has no right to do that ! FRSC was established by law and not by executive fiat. Only an amended law setting it up will authorize their use of fire arms . |

1bkaye:my its high time i am a road safety personnel and i will till you we are nothing like the police if only you can reason with us will you will never have a problem, Road users here can testify with me have you ever had your papers complete and road safety wont let you go? unlike our sister agency the police but u will agree with me that alot of violent people will prefer to speed off rather than stop for you and we are not in the habit of going after someone in other to prevent accident, as a personnel i have been told i will be killed on the road several times by people i dont even know, i have been insulted and told how stupid i am by people am only trying to help, i have been mobbed just because the only weapon i have is my word and uniform, dont get me wrong there is a joy in doing this work when you rescue an accident victim or when you give a motorist an advice that will save his life there is this inner peace you get and that alone keeps me going. if i was not a personnel i will also be sounding like you all and personally i dont support guns in road safety but alot of personnel has died because a driver wants to be smart because he cant see a gun and you cant imagin how a nigerian will talk to you on uniform if you dont have a gun he sees you as a disturbance but i can assure you that road safety personnel wont be shooting anyhow or even put a gun at you if you can only do the right thing..............i once met a white lady being rude to me on the road because she thinks all i want to do was to extort money from her cos her nigerian husband told her so and i had to remind her that she wont act like this in her home country . so please we should all reason before we act |

I can't believe the FRSC is given arms to enforce traffic regulations. Another ill-thought out move. I know traffic police don't bear arms and there's no reason FRSC should be made to bear arms to carry our their duties. The FRSC are notorious for random and indiscriminate stopping of motorists without any reason other than to ask baseless and needless questions which is actually witch-hunting of motorists in the hopes of generating revenue. Perhaps, The VIO should be armed too if every uniformed agency in the country is going to bear fire arms and next will be LASMA. I think the FRSC should be scrapped or merged with the VIO, needless duplicity of function. |

harrison1234:Doesn't it sound stupid to you for an FRSC personnel to gun-stop a motorist to check his driver's licence ? Why do you people stop cars without any visible reason? Where in the world is it done? Why insist on the original driver's licence when a motorist is stopped? Nigerians don't carry original documents around. Not even the vehicle's licence. You guys are corrupt and uniformed thieves, in my opinion. That's why motorist don't stop for you. You penalise motorist for even one break light going off when it could happen any minute without warning. You guys should be scrapped. |

What they need is common sense. FRSC is the worst set of uniform men in Nigeria. Most of their staff are so arrogant. They lack common sense. They use themselves as barrier on the high way and mounts road blocks at wrong spots. Carrying firearms will results in wanton destruction of lives on our roads. They will surely mis-use the arms. Nigerian should resist this unreasonable development. RIP to the late ones. |

This country has lost the idea of governance copletely,if not road safety, civil defence, drug law,dss etc;these. Agencies are basically doing police work which is the dublication of powers.I mean the fed. Govt.should merge dis agencies nd streghten theM to function effectively.Okay imaging soldiers are on streets nd even treating cases like police nd yet we feel we are going the right way. |

These guys (FRSC Operatives) are our brothers, friends, sons, husbands etc. I read the other time that a team was battered to death from bullets of yet to be identified gun men, at their check point. Is it what we pray and wish for these people, our brothers, cousins, fathers, mothers. Yes, some of the FRSC guys are so arrogant, I agree. We also call names to police but still call upon them #NPF at distress times... Same with FRSC. I've gone through some comments above my post. I'm yet to see any reasonable post, rather than selfishness, continuous indiscipline and corrupte practice in our myopic thinking skills. Nobody here will hit his/her chest to say that noon of his/her family members has never experienced kind treatment(s) from FRSC. The other night, in Benin, at midnight some clubbing guys after flexing, got drunk, crashed and FRSC was called at that time of the night , they responded (though not timily). So, if giving them Firearms will make our Roads safer, I support the whole idea. I've met with some of its operatives (FRSC) in about three different occasions on the highway, first time I was booked for a particular traffic offence, which I paid at the bank. Since then,we have become friends. What matters is our approach to them at the point of apprehension. We need these guys #Army #NPF #DSS #FRSC #NSCDC on our highways and also in our neighborhoods on daily basis. Let all criticism be constructive. #commonsense. |

before you know it, there will be clashes between them and the police or even the military, harassments here and there of civilians. I'm of the opinion that there's no reason to arm them, they should only be concerned about the safety of cars and individuals on the road. not always looking out for those with or without their sit belts on |
| Re: FRSC Now To Bear Firearms – Oyeyemi by lezz(m): 10:13am On Dec 03, 2016 |
sarrki:Violently corrupt. They manufacture offence on the spot. Can't explain how vexatious it is while driving for nearly 4 hours in the high way and you come to a bad section of the road and you see the FRSC men besieging the road and pulling you to a side asking you to produce your driver's licence, then upon getting hold of it, the ask you to step on the breaks for break lights and order you to put on the pointer lights. After those, they ask you to show them your spare tyre and fire extinguisher and they proceed to check their expiration dates. Loooooooolz, mad men. All these are done without any reason other than the little voices in thier head. So why would I ever stop for an FRSC when my car is faultless and I am driving within the approved speed limits? |

Wrong move by the FGN. Armed bandits can easily masquerade as FRSC officials to cause mayhem on road users. |
