Federation of International Football Association president, Gianni Infantino, has officially expressed his preference for an expanded men's FIFA World Cup. He is arguing to increase the number of participating teams at the final tournament to 48, from the present 32. Instead of 16 groups, I will prefer 12 groups of 4 teams. The top 2 in each group and the eight best third-placed teams across the groups should advance to the Round of 32. The round of 32 will then be a knockout round, till we get to the final. Alternatively, it should be expanded to a 40-team tournament, with 10 groups of 4 teams. The top 3 in each group, and the two best bottom teams advancing to the knockout Round of 32. 55 Likes |

CFCman:feeding, accommodation and other such logistics are involved. Your suggestion would mean extended stay in the host country. Won't it interrupt club engagements? Can the host country afford the extra week or so? I think I prefer Infantinos idea 4 Likes |

[size=28pt]I think it is a good idea to have 48 teams world cup. But 16 stadium per host , is not possible. 8 stadium look fair bringing more country to host. if fifa reduce the years to every 2 years. I believe the world cup should be every 2 years, same as the commonwealth games. and Olympia games. It is unfair to sport people to wait every 4 years for a games. It only makes sport not interesting and not financial rewarding for sponsor and advertiser. Like if you watch the africa cup of 2000, Nigeria won the africa cup but was given to cameroon by them. Nigeria score the play and it was in the net at the final and they gave the cup to cameroon in 2000. caf should hand over the 2000 africa cup to Nigeria. Nigeria won it. Having less team at league stages will means good things will be out. But increasing the number of team at the group stages to 6 team, only means the best 2 team go through. it is best to have 6 team at it means 8 stadiums per country, and reducing the the games event from 4 years to 2 years, to allow more host nation. safarigirl: Infantino only wants an expanded World Cup because of the extra tv revenue and ticket sales that a 48-team tournament would bring. I don't think an extra knockout round would be too taxing on the host nation(s). Alternatively, it could be a 40-team tournament, with 10 groups of 4 teams. Then, the group winners and best six runners up across the groups will advance to the round of 16. |
