bro I have about six cars on the high sea like this, all landing next year. How on earth did he want me to divert those cars to Lagos while the bill of landing is clearly indicating port of discharge, Cotonou?
If the ban is not revoked, then you are left with two choices: Sell the cars in Cotonou and incur some loses or take the risk and smuggle it into Nigeria.

I have said that earlier, banning cars from entering through borders are just ways to enrich custom officers, It can't work for now

It is the north that suffers most from his stupid policies. Imagine where they will get the water to import rice or cars from??.

But Nigerians what do we really want sef? I see a lot of people shouting dat this policy is not good for business, yet the same people shout that the government is not supporting Innoson...How on earth do you expect IVM to grow when it is competing with Toyota, Honda and the rest foreign car makers? It's not even as if IVM is competing against brand new cars but second handed ones...This policy serves 2 purposes, it helps IVM and any other local car maker grow and it can also force the foreign manufacturers to come and open their plants in Nigeria...Imagine we are one of the largest markets for Toyota and Honda globally, yet there is not a single assembly plant in Nigeria, yet Mitsubshi has a plant in Egypt and BMW has one in South Africa...common people

This Baba has draconian way of doing things. High time he realises that he is no more a military ruler but a civilian leader. His policies must carry human face if not it will backfire.

For once the reps are with the masses, Buhari's I'll thought policies are at best archaic and anti people.
For those supporting the ban because of ivm, don't be blinded by sectionalism. How many of you can afford a brand new Ivm vehicle? The last I checked, ivm no get second hand ooooo

Wanted to say same... IVM can't solve cars issue in Naija.. Nigerians hardly buy new cars unless rich men and that's what many are living from today, especilly buying from cotonou and selling in Nigeria

Of course polithiefcians especially the ones from the North will oppose the directive...Almost all the car stands in the North are owned by them and its one of the ways they use to launder money...touch car stands and bureau de change and you have held the northern polithiefcians by the blokos

Why did you choose Cotonou as the port of discharge and not Lagos? (I'm not saying your choice was right or wrong; I just want to know why.)

Buhari and his crew have been ill-advised.

We have numerous clients who use Cotonou route and vehicle destination and this policy is harsh on their business. They have tens of vehicles currently on the way to Cotonou that won't get there until around January 14.

My Dear.

Wisdom makes one to know what to do at the right time, the policy is a good one but the timing is wrong. Nigerians are already in a harsh economy, why making things more difficult at this time.

Even before this administration, 70-80% of Nigerians cannot afford a brand new car, and right now alot of people have parked their cars trying to survive this harsh administration.

The president should look for better policies that will reduce hardship for the masses.

And wen we say dis govt is confused due to d kind of totally hopeless policies dey com up with, some morons will start raining insults and abuses.. Are d cars coming in thru land borders not paying custom duty? Or don't we all know of d massive corruption in d customs already? Or why do dey think ppl are more comfortable using these other seaports than shipping directly to Nigeria? Dats what dey shld ask first before deciding to make d average man sweat harder before affording a car. Sometimes I wonder wat actually goes thru d mind of these ppl before coming up with some of these policies. Who suffers both on d long and short run?

This is an old man NgeneUkwenu and Omenka voted in to turn their country to paradise. I can't even employ this kind of man as my security. This is how he withdrew all the South African soldiers helping us in the fight against BH and now more than 1000 soldiers are no where to be found. Each time a southern soldier leads in the war front his people will compromise.

In summary, it's not just about doing right things but also about doing things right.
When the government doesn't create succour and alternatives for people before trying to get the things right, there is a mass-resistance.

we pay cost insurance and fright (CIF) here when paying custom duty Mr man if you don't knw how the system works don come here and spew rubbish your self. And who tells you they don't smuggle Cars in Lagos port? I give you and example, you have like 4 cars in a container only for the agent to declare it's only one car and pay duty for only that one or claim its Toyota Camry instead of Range Rover. bribe the examination officer, here in the border those Cars don't come in containers they land in Cotonou in a container and driven to the border, so how can you declare the cars as one or a Toyota Camry as a range Rover when everyone can clearly see it's a Range Rover and not a Camry?

Cotonou has a standard clearing of cars duty paid rate. (450,000 cfa) no mater the age or model of the car, be it 2017 model it's still 450,00 cfa. Why can't we implement same rate in this country? For your information 450,00 cfa is less than 400k Naira. So what are we talking about here?

But wait a minute.
The Government didn't ban the importation of used cars into the Country, it only said ship it into the Country directly.

Who would be at disadvantage?
1 - Government of neighboring Countries
2 - Car sellers in Neighboring Countries
3 - Nigerian Customs personal at the Land borders who rely on booking(bribe)
4 - Shipping company workers in Cotonou
5 - Smugglers

Who would b at Advantage

1 - Nigerian Government would have more revenue into his coffers
2 - Nigerian terminal operators would get more vehicle import traffic into their terminal.
3 - Terminal operators would able to help their workers keep their jobs Cos I t increase In imports.
4 - Seaport based licensed Custom clearing agent would have more jobs to do .
5 - Nigerian car sellers would sell more than they hitherto do.

In a nutshell I would say the policy is most beneficial to Nigeria and Nigerians.
