Gb stands for governing body. These men are the anointed leaders of Jehovah's witnesses worldwide.

They sent a letter.. Not just to Nigerian congregations but to congregations worldwide.

I attended our weekly meetings today and a letter warning against any ponzi schemes was read.

Can't say everything in it sha but the details were:
1. Trust God for all your financial needs

2. If you're not sure whether the scheme would crash or not, don't introduce it to your brothers

3. Never be driven by the love of money

4. Satan is looking for ways to drive Christians into his court. Try to be vigilant

At the end of the letter, Hebrew 13: 5 and 6 was read.

Thank God i didn't go mmm or anyone
UNA don come again with this "i know it all stuff" is mmm and the rest not better than robbery? ok what is your church doing to help eradicate poverty and hardship out of the land,? make we hear word joor

They should rather face their gospel...and let Nigerians decide how they risk their hard-earned money...

U didn't even read at all, letter was sent to their congregations worldwide. They take care of the congregation, even advising them on any current issues, backed by bible principles.

Note that the governing body did not mention mmm, I've been waiting to see this letter.
2-The governing body did not ask you not to take financial risks-but if you suspect it will crash, don't introduce it to your brothers.
Don't make the congregation a business ground.
Don't be driven by greed.
WARNING: DON'T DRAG THE GOVERNING BODY INTO COMMENTS ABOUT MMM.
YOUR FINANCIAL RISKS IS YOUR PERSONAL DECISION.
I've been scrolling down to see a comment like this, it is just an admonition and not a specific warning not to participate in MMM.
Normally we're not allowed to discuss business in our meeting places or in field service.

All I know is that these Ponzi schemes, MLM etc just kill people's creativity and make them more aggressive financially, albeit on a low level.

The richest people in the world didn't get there by quick-money schemes, they got there by identifying what people needed and meeting those needs.

MMM is just one of the many schemes running in Nigeria, so what's the fuzz about? Is it bc of its popularity or what?
Many of these other ponzi schemes are very much riskier and less organized and we don't get to hear much about them.

Any business you do entails some risks whether buying of shares or banking. If you ever lost money in any of those liquidated banks of those days like Society Générale Bank, Intercity BanK; and bought shares with the value less than 20% of the initial value as at today, then you have nothing to FEAR about MMM.
I see some haters joining mmm in 2017, Hallelujah! This is the only scheme that has put smile on the faces of teeming Nigerians in this harsh economic time. Nigerians are getting unified by this scheme too.

For those sounding aghast against mmm Nigeria, you have a long time to wail because there are numerous strings and strains of mmm running concurrently in Nigeria. Have you heard of MMM Japan and MMM worldwide that transact with Bitcoin? MMM is like an Octopus with Eight lives. You simply can't kill it with your mere wailing! Wake up and join the new community service and be your Brother's keeper. cry

One thing I know is, if you're a real Christian and you study the word of God properly with understanding and the guide of the Holy Spirit , you won't be into any of the Ponzi scheme...

Lemme share some verses of the Bible...

Leviticus 25 vs 37
Ezekiel 18 vs 8
Jeremiah 15 vs 37...
Oga which one is Jeremiah 15 vs 37? can't find that in my Bible.
though I don't support the MMM stuff but the first two verses you quote has nothing to do with MMM.
The word Usury as used in those verses was used to describe the act of given financial assistance to someone in need while demanding for exorbitant interest. contrary to that, MMM is the borrower who promised to pay exorbitant interest and not the lenders asking for the interest.
the absence of compassion and love for a brother in need, by demanding higher interest before financial assistance is rendered was the base upon which Usury was condemned therefore if a man come to me to borrow 1000 with promise to pay 1500(50% interest) in two weeks time, of which I am not the one demanding for the interest, pls tell me where I have sin.
Note: I am not supporting MMM but just to clarify those verses. pls always go some verse before or further to understand more about a particular verse that interest you in the Bible so that you could understand that very verse of your interest better.
MMM IS ROBBING PETER TO PAY PAUL.

Re: Governing Body Of Jehovah's Witnesses Warns Against Ponzi Schemes by Yikpata1(m): 6:38pm On Dec 11, 2016
This was a letter to the worldwide congregation and same type of letters has been sent to congregations for decades before the emergence of MMM. And neither MMM nor any scheme was mentioned in such letters. That shows they respects peoples financial decisions But for members of the congregation it's greed and the Bible did warn against any form of greed.

In summary, the letter wasn't meant for Naira land or any news media but for the congregation.

Honorable authorities,

So far MMM has come under a constant attack from you. In this regard, I would like to ask you a few simple questions. Since you are concerned with the interests of millions of your fellow citizens, I hope that you would be so kind to answer them.

1. What are you trying to get? Do you want the MMM System to collapse and millions of people to suffer? Who will support them then if now MMM is their only means of livelihood? Will you? You even don’t pay wages to people? Or might you not care about them? Might you be using a trendy topic to make a good name for yourselves? What will you say to a mother who will have no money to buy food for her child? Will you let her child die for the sake of the higher interests of the economy?

2. You say that MMM is a scam. What is the scam here, if all members are warned in advance about all the risks, the possible and impossible ones? They know there are no investments at all. The warning is a red text on a yellow background placed on most prominent place of the website.

3. You say that MMM is bad. Why? Yes, it produces nothing, but nothing gets out of the country either. The money is just redistributed among the citizens of Nigeria. It gets from those who are richer to poorer ones, in this way restoring social justice. What''s wrong with that?

4. You have repeatedly stated that "it should be investigated!.. researched!.." It means you know nothing about this System yet; you even haven’t understood how it works. Isn’t it completely irresponsible of you to make all these allegations and play with the lives of millions of ordinary people?

5. And finally. If you know what is right for people, why is the life so bad in the country?

Sincerely yours,

Sergey Mavrodi

Buhari's recession government has employed Nairaland to discourage people from subscribing to MMM, so any little advice or warning from a social or religious group is tagged and taken to the front page.
Nairaland, well done o! But you're too small to stop MMM! angry angry angry

Open Letter from Sergey Mavrodi to the Nigerian Authorities

P.S. As for your statement that "everything will collapse soon". The system has been working in Nigeria for a year, and according to your estimates, the total number of members now is about 3 million people. In Nigeria the population is approximately 195 million. Can you calculate? Will it be “soon"? :-))

This letter wasn't meant for the Media or Nairaland. Like previous letters it is meant strictly for the congregation and shouldn't be a topic of debate.
Some congregations already read the letter others are yet to.
Stop bringing congregation matters to this type of debate please.
