I remember a particular Christmas day, I jejely wore my satin lace, didn't know they had already nicknamed d material 'Up Nepa ' material, immediately I stepped out of our compound, So many idiots started yelling saying 'won ti mu na de... Up Nepa' , ran back when I cldnt take it anymore, when my mom saw d way I was undressing myself,: she was like, what happened, explained how I was embarrassed, she smiled, re-dressed me, told me to tell dem dat 'Up nepa ' is for d rich (Olowo lo n wo) ...

I and my friend threw a banger over the fence of a building at Christmas Eve not knowing that there was a tailor inside the compound, the banger we threw fell and burn the Christmas cloth that the Tailor was sowing because the owner will collect it d nxt morning. We first ran away wen we heard d tailor shouting at d other side bt we later go and beg him .

make I no lie, na for the middle of the Year I dey buy my Xmas cloth, when is cheap and I would hide it so nobody will see it until Xmas day...

I used to be very secretive, when my frds start bragging abt their new cloth I will be mute until Xmas day that I will av to show it off.

I wanted to commit suicide when my sister went to market and bought ordinary Jean for me whereas I wanted baggi jean with chain around it

I got tired of that telephone weavon,that one particular Christmas i refuse to do,i really cried,and my mum was like( shebi your hair plenty, oya go buy those fancy rubber make you take do am one kind) while my mates were carrying Bob Marley..
My shoe and gown was to match,including my (then 50,50,naira shade, and one shinny shinny wrist watch)
On the D. Day, we'll first of all wear our new pant,and parade the whole compound,then lastly putting on our clothes,my Dad is always the first to do Christmas for us, afterward we set out on a journey,to come home late,exhausted and sleep on top of each other like log of wood.......

Thanks OP for taking me back to those times...... I wish i could have it again..

Growing up in a typical face-me-i-face-you back then in warri, what i shot in my early childhood was actually carbide though. it was later on we shot knockout and guns made with wood, rubber and spoke. i also shot those knockout that you hit on the wall, made with spark plug or lead casting gotten from vehicle batteries. We also build charismas houses at the back of the compound with bamboo

The shots i enjoyed most was the carbide, shot from bournvita tins. The sound is 50 times that of knockout - more like an explosion. At times we shoot from xmas eve onto early xmas morning, and keep hearing this “whiiiiiiiiiiiiiii” sound in our ears all through the xmass day.

During the xmass “waka” session, my sisters made more money cos they were girls and relatives give them more. The funny part was they most of them come back walking like old women due to pain from their xmas shoes. I remember wearing “superman pant”, “paris” and “what else” jeans together with canvas. 2. Wore new Christmas clothes and shoes
3. Visited extended family members and relations during the festivities
4. Went swimming with my siblings and cousins in the rivers and streams in the village
5. Attended local night parties with my siblings and cousins with local musicians performing e.g. Taosan, Soku, etc
...The list is endless but I choose to stick to the rules

yea, u just described my sisters when you mentioned the hair, the shiny shiny all all that. And u nailed it after the 'waka' excercise when you said you would all sleep on one another from tiredness

though i cant really tell from the perspective of todays child, but i think christmas is not as sweet as then, lack of trust and insecurity has killed the whole process

yea...kids are been restricted now...... I wonder how everything became so bad, all of a sudden....then we preferred rice to money,but now because of food poisoning,kids can't eat freely.....

as for me..xmas celebration was very fun..would sneak into in d nite to steal fried chicken...if i dont wear that shoe that has light on it no one is safe,,always looking forward to every new clothes.wrist watches..pa ajasco eye glass with that ghanian hairstyle..pamming my head..scattering the vicinity with bangers YEAH LOTS OF IT..would visit every house just to eat and drink and get paid

I could recall mom frying large quantity of goat meat on wide open pan, and when ever we ran across the cooking zone, she would press some meat in our mouth.
