This is understating the facts and putting it mildly. He inherited a vast fortune, true, but Tunde has escalated his inheritance to unbelievable heights. I am dead cert that he is now a dollar billionaire in unreported net worth, with a richly diversified portfolio of money spinning investments in different sectors - telecommunications, oil and gas, shipping, banking, properties, etc etc etc. He has the proverbial oil well that would never dry up in his lifetime, no matter how 'wasteful' he is.

This dude easily rakes in millions of dollars monthly. Now tell me how much change, in dollars, that he spent on KSA's guitar again.

But you know that they have been trying to explore AJE oil field before the death of Folawiyo Snr which now turned into gold mine . I am not disputing your facts though.

Thank you.
The problem with a lot of the idi...ots saying waste of money or what will he use it for, is that poverty and abject penury has ruined and corroded their mindset....Now if you couple that with illiteracy and lack of exposure, then it becomes an even bigger problem!
finally I found the few sane ones. My brother, most of them are educated illitrates. Most times I just read their pathetic comments and pass. I just tire! Please enlighten them more often.

Brother, no mind that idiot. They just like displaying their gullibility at any given space. The guiter was specially designed by a reknown Nigerian artist based in Washington DC, USA, Victor Ekpuk.

He didnt buy the guitar, he bought the years of sunny Ade's hard work with it. And for the people crying foul, I wont blame you guys cos it means you dont know the meaning of "auction"

Which work ke,or will the work and music the guitar made be transfered to the mans name, all he will be referred to is "the man who now owns sunny ade's guiter" imagine how many guitar shop he could buy with that.he could even open a guitar village with that amount.

No probs... my only concern is what the auction money will be used for eventually.

But its none of my business realy.

What do u mean? An auction is a sale. The proceeds go to the owner of the guitar of course. Sunny ade is 50million richer. And dt wasn't the only thing he put on sale.

Not necessarily. Most auctions like this go to charity. You auction something precious to you to raise funds for charitable organisation of your choice. But in naija...charity begins at oshodi so therefore KSA don hammer.

No. An auction is a sale. Period. A charity auction is a charity sale. It's usually specified before the event if it's for charity. High networth individuals, organizations & museums sell their priceless items, valuables by auction.

This was an auction for KSAs birthday & 50yrs of music anniversary.

don't kill yourself over how people spend their money. pray to God to have yours. all over the world people buy celebrities artifacts whenever they are auction ed, at outrageous amount, not because they need it but for prestige.

Eric Clapton bought his Fender Stratocaster (named Brownie) for $400 in 1967. It sold at auction for $497,500 in 1999. It was the most expensive guitar in the world at that time.

Clapton also bought 6 Stratocasters for around $200 each in the 1950s. He gave three of them as gifts to other musicians and used the best parts of the remaining three to build a new guitar, which he named Blackie. In 2004, Blackie was sold at auction for $959,500, becoming the most expensive guitar in the world.

Other famous guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Prince and Les Paul also played Fenders. Prince had a gold, custom-made Fender Stratocaster.

It is rumoured that this guitar (that was auctioned on Sunny Ade's birthday) was given to Sunny Ade by the Fender company.

To the haters:

This is a collector's item. It's a small part of the great KSA's legacy. An asset that will appreciate over the years.

I'm proud to see it worth so much, as it's a manifestation of the great esteem with have for KSA.

Tunde Folawiyo is the son of Chief Abdulwahab Iyanda Folawiyo.

Chief Iyanda Folawiyo was the son of a wealthy trader during the colonial era. He attended university in the UK and returned to Nigeria to establish Yinka Folawiyo And Sons in 1957. He was in the import and export business at the time.

He got involved in shipping and his shipping line, Nigeria Green Lines, owned a lot of ships in the 1970s and 1980s.

He also got involved in the electricity business and his company, Yinka Folawiyo Power Limited, was involved in the first public-private electricity generation company in Nigeria, when they, in conjunction with Enron (later AES) and the Lagos State Government, launched an electricity generation plant on a barge on the Lagos Lagoon (close to Ikorodu).

Yinka Folawiyo And Sons is also in the oil and gas sector and their petroleum company has discovered oil in the Aje Field, off the coast of Lagos.

Chief Folawiyo was probably better known as a philanthropist. He donated huge sums of money to charities, especially islamic charities. He established an orphanage in Lagos, sponsored almost all the islamic programmes on tv during Ramadan, sponsored the construction of the Lagos Central Mosque (commissioned by General Babangida c1989), built the Surulere Central Mosque and expanded the University Of Lagos Health Centre from a small clinic to a full fledged hospital. He was also a member of the donation circuit of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The donation circuit were a group of the wealthiest Nigerians and President Babangida, who attended series of events, eg, charity events, book launchings, university convocations, etc, donating enormous sums of money at such events. They included Chief MKO Abiola, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, Chief Sunny Odogwu, Chief Sunny Okogwu, Chief Rasak Okoya, Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas, Chief Onwuka Kalu, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki, Alhaji Grema Mohammed, Alhaji S.A. Barma, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chief Wahab Folawiyo, Prince Dapo Tejuosho, Prince Adekunle Ojora, etc.

Chief Folawiyo was made the Baba Adinni of Nigeria because of his donations to charity.

He was involved in one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the 1990s, when he got married to super star fashion designer, Princess Abba Adesanya (Labanella).
