LARRYDKING:
1 is totally invalid, u don't have to fast till u become a bag of bone or kill urself before u're offered admission. We just take solace in the undue rigour candidates pass 2ru during admission period.

3 is unfair. why compare the best university in Nigeria which accommodates less than 5% to babcock. Why not otuoke to babcock, Bowen to LAUTECH, Madonna to OOU and Celeb to LASU. Let CU match UI. They have proved to be institutions of great repute over the years.

Our private universities are just germinating, when they are fully grown, UI and co would run. Just project CU's rank by 2030 if development keeps up at this same pace.
dont ever compare lagos state university to any private university in Nigeria... Pls check the stats or Nuc ranking of universities
Re: 7 Advantages Of Attending A Public University In Nigeria by darkid1(m): 5:39pm On Dec 20, 2016
Lmao. OP. I'm a CU student and I got admission into a public school but choose CU. I dont know where you guys get the notion that people go to private school cause they couldnt pass jamb. In my department, at least the year I got it, you couldnt get it with 240. That point you raised ,no offence is just poor mentality. After my first internship during a holiday at an oil and energy multinational, I realised I was light years ahead of my public school counter parts. They couldnt even convert simple units! Now,I'm not bad mouting public school students, and I know there are crapy private schools out there, but please dont ever post crap like this. It makes this forum look like a joke.

If you have resources ,please send your ward to a good private school, the exposure (not hustle life exposure) ,connection, facilities and learning enviroment is amazing .

I am sorry to say this, but your response does not depict that of someone that has a post graduate certificate. Why insult the OP? I believe what he wrote there is his opinion. You could have easily stated yours without insulting him. Thanks

Don't agree with no2....there are private universities with better facilities than some public universities( though not all)
..true bro .. Was going to go against him about the no2 .. You can't compare the kind of facilities in convenant uni to the one in lautech ... Even. When it comes to lecturers
Re: 7 Advantages Of Attending A Public University In Nigeria by vivaciousvivi(f): 5:52pm On Dec 20, 2016
Op I quite disagree with you here. Although a highly localised case, my first job post NYSC was with a foremost management consulting company and it was clear that private university graduates ruled! Especially in terms of computer proficiency and business writing. In my second job, snr Mgt was very clear they preferred graduates from private universities.
I also completely disagree with you on your point about facilities. In public universities? Please! Even schools one should respect like OAU, UI, UNN and Unilag have dilapidated facilities - for learning and leisure respectively. Unilorin even tries small.

op,izz like you use your head to hit your passage wall,Dont compare private school facilities with public at all,if one chair gets. broken in a private school it is repaired or replaced within two days, I won't name my school but since I left LT2 till now the back row seat and numerous others is still in its bad conditions close to 12 years.plus public school does not make you stronger ,getting into school is easy in every continent except Africa! .Op izz like you have never been called to an interview,When I went for an interview in UAC ,they asked for our certificate, when the nigga that was Interviewing ,I noticed he separated the documents, private to the right, public to the left ,only called the best public graduates but the privates according to my informant were all called to write the exam.My child ennhhh is Convenant university or nothing.

In summary, Public universities are better because they are more difficult on one hand and they have better facilities/instructors on the other hand.

There are two kinds of students: Good ones and not so good ones. Both categories exist in public and private universities. However most private universities are new. Babcock was one of the first licensed private universites in Nigeria and graduated its first set in 2003. Thats 13 years ago.12 years experience if you deduct NYSC. Give it time. We will judge by products in the next 8 years or so. Meanwhile since you mentioned Babcock, let me educate you. Babcock has signed up with New Horizons and if you are in the Computer department you are encouraged to take professional exams as a requirement. If you pass Comptia Exams for example, it is global. whether you are in Nigeria or USA. Babcock has also partnered with ICAN to align their accounting program with that of ICAN. Babcocks MBA is under AACSB accreditation which no public university in Nigeria has. Even LBS just got theirs last month compared to schools such as UCT Business school in south africa that have triple MBA accrediation(EQUIUS,AMBA and AACSB). Some Babcock Graduates at the age of 22 have Bsc, Msc, Nysc and at least one professional qualification; education is fast and there is no strike at all. April By Kunbi is a babcock product. These two guys in the link below are babcock products.

http://pulse.ng/tech/paystack-fintech-firm-secures-1-3-million-dollars-in-seed-funding-id5914952.html

Go to KPMG,Interswitch,Maionone,PWC etc, its like a babcock reunion in those places even though babcocks annual graduate volume is like one tenth of that like schools such as UNILAG.Even HR Executives are now giving advantage to private uni graduates. If u dont know, ask around.

I can down grade all public unis in Nigeria from now till kingdom come. Mention one MBA Program in any public university in Nigeria that makes any sense. Thanks to Lagos Business School who are the leading light and they are private.

All in All, Education is meant to be relevant and not difficult. Whats the point of celebrating as is common in public unis that no one has had first class in a department for decades and they see that as excellence because it is difficult ? Whereas people who write the text books in those courses overseas have people graduating first class every year in their own department.

Comparing public universities with private universities based on numbers of first class graduates is abnormal and doesn't make public universities to be above private universities in anyway. If a student deserve an 'A', give it to him or her, I can say that's actually absent in public universities just because they(lecturers) so desire to be sadists. You are being given what you deserve in private universities, the learning environment is conducive, learning facilities are present, lecturers come to class regularly.
In public universities, you struggle to learn under a harsh environment I can't forget what I went through in my first and second year in general courses but all the same I struggled to get my 'As and Bs'. Public universities learning environment are not learners friendly and that is where private universities students get it right and excel, I could remember when I visited a friend working at. Afe babalola university, I was so amazed with the electricity supply, infrastructural evolvement in the school, sport facilities and hostel facilities present. Although students are paying heavily for it but what can I say about my own university, where we pay 7500 for health services but sick students are being given paracetamol for malaria, N7500 from over 30000 students is enough to upgrade the health service delivery in the university to a reasonable state.
Private universities are making judicious use of their students fee while the little federal and state universities are getting are not being used effectively, perhaps they are not enough. You don't expect any good thing to come out from where students learn in a harsh environment. I'm not part of those that say when they grow up and become a father, they will send their children to public universities. Baba God should do well for me and make me send my kids to top rated universities preferably privates and foreign universities. I am a student of a state university, I know how harsh the environment is and as an educationist I know the effect of a poor learning environment and facilities on students performance.

All these points are invalid and both parties can argue till thy kingdom come. A sound graduate is what you make of yourself, not the school.

A thug can get in harvard and still graduate a thug, the choice of being wise and educated is all yours to make!

Public schools have a very poor educational standard.
They have no facilities compared to private schools. They say private schools produce lots of first class and 2:1 graduates, this is because they don't have sadist lectures who fail students for no good reasons, their environment is conducive for learning, they have great facilities and also, they have up to date curriculum unlike the 20th century curriculum we use in our public schools.
We thrive abroad and in our private institutions because the educational environment is close to perfect, not because of any other reason.

P.S:
OP , where did you learn that Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is an Ivy League school?
Lemme guess, your over rated piece of poop Nigerian public school.
i want to believe dat u knw dat 65% of d over hyped private uni lecturers are actually lecturers frm public institution.
