You people are so myopic and hatefilled. What mr obi said is so true because i experienced it some years back, not rice this time but clothes. But some clothes from lagos and was on my way to Abuja, this guys seized my clothes claiming that there are contraband.Stop claiming that Obi is lying when you cannot refute his claim all in the name tribal sentiment.

Why should the be impounding brand new cars purchased years back on the excuse that custom duty was not paid.

why can't they go after the importers of these cars instead of end users.

this is wickedness and heartless.

this govt is fraud

Even we in south south you people claim to be our brothers, we are not left out by d neferious act. D only tribe I appericiate when it comes to business is just the northerners. They are sincere to certain level. So don't complain about that if it true cos until you good ones keep preaching the gospel to others who has be given you people bad name since long time ago change their dubious ways, if not I fully support d custom in all this. Customs is placed there because the South East usually is a point of storage /sale for smuggled products. I am not a tribalist, just speaking them facts my guy.

If the government says you should not bring in a particular product into its borders, and you do but get caught, you don't deserve pity. You deserve punishment. Be law abiding.

I have never insulted anyone before in an online forum but I can't hold myself anymore, you are very stupid for defending rubbish. I had a first hand experience coming from Lagos to portharcout the custom checking point started from warri to choba that is how bad it was. I bought 4 bags of rice from Lagos as a gift to my parents even with my receipt they insisted on bribe which I refused though I was delayed but I made sure they didn't get a penny from me. The shoe those custom guys wear isn't it contraband too. Please borrow sense biko

The problem is that ppl U is that U don't travel.
If there's an issue on Lagos -Ibadan expressway, which tribe is it likely to affect most? And who is likely to complain about it first?
I have some yoruba friends in Abj and we once had cause to travel to d east and immediately we entered d road heading to Nsukka from Benue,it was even them that raised d issue of frequency of d checkpoints.
One of them said he frequently travels all over d country except to d south east and south south and has never seen stuff like that and I was just laughing at them cos I was used to it.
There is a kind of siege on d south east and south south and I'm yet to understand d rationale,d only factor I can ascribe it to is that it's a revenue generation drive for d private pockets of d security agencies.

This is sometimes what annoys me about Igbos; always turning the slightest negative thing that happens to them to appear like persecution because they are Igbos (Igbo this Igbo that) and inadvertently irritating ppl to the extent of ironically disliking them for being Igbo.

Just take this latest of their complaint; as if there are no custom checkpoints stationed all over this country and as if the Nigerian Customs does not also have Igbos in its services - I bet if you were to take a cursory look into these checkpoints you would definitely find Igbo officers amongst them actively involved in whatever that is going on - maybe even trying to outdo the others.

Why wouldn't their youths grow up hating on everyone, when their leaders are always tribalising and viewing everything from an Igbo and non Igbo perspective; how would their youths develop a sense of belonging and consequently for Nigerian to see and treat them as Nigerians when they are in fact busy marginalising themselves by themsives?

In the North here we dont see Customs checkpoints seizing anything because the average Hausa man will dagger you if you dare attempt to confiscate his foodstuff or impound his car.
The several Police checkpoints in the South East is because the Igbo is always in a hurry to get to his destination while a northerner will patiently follow the Police or Custom to their station or refuse to move and dare them to do their worse. Tahts why every Custom or Police wants to be posted to the South

The best analysis yet. The braver we are as a people the more we put these government goons in check. I have always tried to do right by the law, but when a police officer tries to take advantage of me, I tell them to arrest me if they think I did anything wrong, they let me go every time with comments like "go away you stingy guy".

I see the needless polarizing comments about tribe and whatnot, and it made my heart sank. If everyone in Nigeria decides to take on our security operatives, by standing our ground, not yielding to their shenanigans, these redundant checkpoints will go away.

The politician might not have mentioned tribe but he implied a certain tribe is more victimized than others. Yes, he's responsible for the polarizing comments here. This is just a game to them, but we should know better as a people.
