FG Approves Work On Second Niger Bridge Onitsha. by Stingman(op): 9:18pm On Dec 21, 2016

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved continuation of work on the second Niger Bridge.

It also approved emergency repair works on Tambruawa Bridge between Kaduna and Kano States.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of FEC meeting in Abuja.

He said: “We presented from the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing two memoranda, one was first for emergency repair works of Tambuwawa Bridge between Kaduna and Kano, situated largely in Kano. Council considered and approved the emergency procurement.

“The bridge was suffering from scrap and erosion, the parts were exposed as a result of some mining activities. We got approval for that by Council.

“The second memo related to the continuation of work on the second Niger Bridge which is the bridge that is meant to give relief to the existing Niger Bridge and improve connectivity between the West and the East.

“The project was conceived first as a PPP with government financing but the investors had not brought themselves, negotiations had not been concluded and it is important to continue to work there.”

Approval on paper.

When 2019 comes, another government will take over, work will be suspended..

Na so e go dey do like that, until Ben Murray Bruce become president, then he will make common sense by saying instead, we need underground bridges.... another 50 billon dollars will be shared.

This sounds like approval for further discussions with the private investors in the project, judging from Fashola's statement. The heading is misleading.

we want our own country .

thank you for that small bridge any way .

in our country to establish in due time we are going to build 12 gigantic most modern bridge across the the RIVER NIGER .

we are not Nigeria

With the way FG is handling the project which responsible investor will come?

Common sense will tell you to first Start the work with a steady pace then you will see how investors will fall over each other.

Anambra is a home of indigenous and foreign investors.

We don't look for them here

The second Niger bridge will go the way of lagos-ibadan-sagamu-ore roads. It will traverse many government regimes. It will be used as an electioneering campaign tool.

How many gigantic bridges have been built by Governors, the present highest ranking authority within the region?

What we should collectively be asking Mr Fashola is, to clarify when actual work will commence, what contract arrangement/cost, and estimated duration/end date.

I will be the most delighted to see the 2nd Niger Bridge promptly built without any tolling or restrictions (as originally conceived by the last administration). Thereafter the Onitsha waterways should be next. The South East region deserves all the development it can get.

Though a South Westerner, I hail the tenacity and resilience of my South Eastern brothers....
