Hello nairalanders, I'd like you all  to read this my epistle on my bad experience with a travel / hotel  booking agency  in Muritala Mohammed international  Airport, Lagos , Nigeria.

I and my wife got a 3 months  visitor's visa to South Africa , our visas were granted after we had satisfied all their visa requirements ( with our hotel bookings and statement of account verified) .

On the day we were meant to travel, we got to the departure area of Kenya airways (the airline company we were meant to fly with), the airline attendants asked for a copy of our  hotel booking  and "yellow card",  to my surprise I and my wife forgot the print out of our hotel booking, but luckily we had our yellow cards.

The flight attendant told us that we couldn't go through without our hotel reservation, I told him that we got the visa because the south African Embassy had verified all our documents -hotel reservations included-  before granting us the visa , the attendant ( a nigerian) was adamant that without the reservation we couldn't go through, he even told us that even if he let's us pass that when we get to South Africa they would send us back because we didn't have evidence that we had a hotel reservation,  I thought to myself " which kain wahala be this sef".

A lady who  was standing beside called my wife aside and said she could help us book another hotel accommodation, she directed us to her desk just opposite where the airline attendant was harassing us, we had to cancel our former booking and eventually ended up paying 105,000 naira for 4 nights stay in another  hotel, the lady printed out the document and handed it to us, we took it to the attendant and he granted us passage.

When we eventually arrived Johannesburg, South Africa to our surprise they didn't even ask us for the hotel booking, they only checked our yellow cards , warmly welcomed us to their beautiful country and stamped us in , we found our way to the hotel they booked for us,  after showing the hotel manager ( who coincidentally is a Nigerian)  the booking print out  he looked at it and told us that the booking was only done for 1 night, I and my wife didn't look at the print out in Nigeria because we were in a hurry not to miss our flight ( it was when the hotel manager pointed out a couple of things  on the printout that we  realized to our dismay that the lady in Nigeria booked only one night for us after collecting money and claiming she booked 4 nights) , I and my wife were perplexed, we had to pay for another 4 nights . It's obvious that the Nigerian man working with Kenya airways that checked our documents at Muritala Mohammed airport  connived with the hotel booking agency to rip us off.

The reason I'm writing this is to bring to the fore the fact that this travel / hotel booking agency with their desk directly opposite Kenya airways departure section is a big scam ( they didn't even put their name on the receipt because they know they are a scam) the reason why we didn't scrutinize the printout like I said was because we were in a hurry not to miss our flight.  I really don't know why we ( Nigerians) like to be so cruel to ourselves. This should serve as a warning to all of us that we should always scrutinize receipts and other documents given to us.

Well, they neither had an inkling that you would forget your hotel booking receipts nor removed it from the bag where you probably kept it. They simply noticed your hurry and you were not used their reciepts (to identify where the booked days are), so they SEIZED THE MOMENT!

However, it was really bad and heartless of them, and i think you can still make a big case out of it as long as you have your receipts

Sorry bruv. I almost fell for the same scam. I was granted a three month visa to South Africa to attend a program for a few days. When I got to the Arik counter, a tall slim guy asked for my hotel reservation, I showed him and he said it's not genuine that I'd be sent back from South Africa, he also said that my yellow card is the old one that it won't be accepted. I explained to him that yellow fever vaccine card expired every ten years, I had earlier gotten that due to the previous visa I got for South Africa but was able to get my vacation approved due to work load. Anyways, those hotel booking peeps at the airport said they found an hotel for me in Sandton town that I should give them 400 dollars for 2 nights, I told them that's too much, firstly they lied that the hotel was close to the venue of the program, I insisted on checking myself and found out it was a 30kilometres drive.. Eventually, I was asked to pay 300dollars..Well,i walked away when I discovered that the counter was about to close for the day. I guess they use that tactics to bait and hook travellers to South Africa. When I approached the guy at the check in, an Arik lady beside him gave a a face sign that the chap is part of the hotel booking cabal. He eventually cleared me. I also discovered that while boarding the flight, another Arik staff lady told me she had already been pre informed that I have an old yellow card which has been phased out and that South African authorities will send me back, I asked her what to do, she said she can get another one for me if I pay her, that's a definite No! So I insisted I'd fly like that and take my chances. Lo and behold, I wasn't asked anything when I arrived South Africa. Those peeps are thugs and have no sympathy for anyone, I really don't know who gave them a space to sell their woes at the airport. But anyways, I can never forget the face of that Arik chap, maybe someday one day, our paths will cross again and will mess him around a little bit and then explain the reason why to him maybe he'll learn his lessons. Be wary, beware Intending South African Travellers. To the lady that gave me the face sign, God will continue to bless U. Amen

When you're about to miss your flight, you'll be amazed at how careless you can become. Generally that's why I try to check in extra early so that I have time for their "orisirisi".

WoW. I remember my first time true true. The idiot was asking me for letter of introduction that I used to get my visa. This was even after checking in and going past security of. He seized my passport and asked me to come to their office on Monday with the letter. I played along for a minute by expressing regret that nobody told me to bring the letter to the airport. Then I shocked him with my sliding tackle questions which were very loud for everyone to hear. He mumbled some useless words and left me.

You told them you have booked for a hotel and that you forgot your print out(where you lying) . Why didn't you check into the one you claimed you booked instead of having to pay extra money? Just wondering
