safarigirl:as in eh, it is just ridiculous and that's an understatement. I don't like that Infantino guy, he was among those that suggested that nonsensical alternative to the UCL(I can't recall the name of that idea again), where the top teams qualify for the champions league every season without even playing well in their domestic leagues and teams like Leicester will be left out no matter their output in their league. that's more like modern day diplomatic suppression of the lesser teams, and that's what he is trying to introduce here. the beneficiaries will definitely be the Europeans and the south Americans to a certain extent. the problem here is that if it comes down to a vote, you will still see some stupid African representatives who will vote for this system of.suppression because their own personal pockets will be enlarged. we tried to rid FIFA of corruption by electing another European, wrong decision, this is why I was supporting that Prince Ali guy. meanwhile, do you think that they will include Ivory coast? I can almost bet my life that if this method is to be adopted, they will find a means to eliminate all the African teams from the top 16 teams before the tournament proper |

Icon4s:that's the beauty of it for me. you included Senegal, Tunisia and Morrocco, do you think these teams are better than the ones Africa presented? they were not good enough so the natural order of selection eliminated them. what positive impact would Peru and Bolivia add to the world cup if not to give the English team an easy opposition so that they can maintain their second round consensus? the idea makes me sick and we should not even consider it, unfortunately if everything goes according to plan, it will be Amaju Picnick who will be voting for Nigeria and I am not looking forward to that one bit |

safarigirl:the teams that will rep Africa will be the same teams that eliminated them which means they were better. the last time Cameroon came to the world cup what happened? Senegal won't miss Russia trust me, and even if they do(probably to South Africa) it still isn't that bad for me. Ghana will.miss out to an Egyptian team trying to prove a point, not bad either |

TheGoodJoe:No, Rafinha hasn't, except if you didn't watch his games at Celta. he still plays exactly the same way. game time is important, besides Rafinha plays well enough for Barcelona over the course of a full season |

Mickael2:Expanding the tourney to 48 teams will result in a massive dilution of the quality. Teams would be playing for penalties because Infantino's plan calls for penalty shootouts if any group game ends in a draw. That's just ridiculous. I rather prefer a 40-team tournament with 10 groups of four teams. In fact, I believe it would be the 'compromise agreement' at the FIFA Council meeting on January 9-10. As we all know that FIFA wants more money from the WC, there could be a knockout round of 32. This would mean that the top 3 in each group and the two best bottom teams across the groups would advance to the round of 32, and so on. This results in a total of over 90 matches which could be played in a 6-week period. Alternatively, under the 40-team plan, the group winners and the best six group runners up advance to the round of 16. This option 'only' guarantees 12 extra matches. I bet that the European and South American FAs would favor the 40-team option because it guarantees that their teams would always be the 10 seeded teams; and UEFA could get 3-4 additional teams, while South America gets 5 fixed slots (in other words 50% of South American teams qualify for the WC). African FAs will also vote for this option because Infantino promised 2 more slots to the continent. |

safarigirl:A bigger and more lucrative World Cup would help fulfill Infantino's election promises to FIFA's 211 member federations. He campaigned on adding eight teams to make a 40-team tournament and more than doubling development grants to $5 million for members from each World Cup. It's all about politics and commerce for FIFA and Infantino. The modern day player already plays alot of games durring the course of the season for both club and country engagements. Adding extra games in the off season in the name of world cup will be akin to asking the players to take performance enhancing drugs. Of which I believe would be legalised for athletes in the near future. That's where we are heading to folks. |

Sources at FIFA say Infantino's 48-team option, which entails 16 groups of three teams and a knockout round of 32, is highly favored by most of the 211 member FAs. The option is also favored by FIFA execs because a study shows that the body would earn an extra $1bn in revenue if the format is adopted in 2026 and beyond. On the other hand, the 40-team option only guarantees an additional $240 million in revenue. |

My fear about the 48 -team world is that players especially those making it to the semifinals and finals would be overworked particularly after a long season of club football |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 8:15am On Dec 29, 2016 |
comradefamous:No. Same number of matches would be played. 16 Groups of 3 teams means 2 group matches as against the current format of 3 group matches. A knock-out round of 32 will reduce the teams to 16, which is equivalent to the current second round. So, still same maximum of 7 matches. But can FIFA just please leave it the way it is? ![]() Not every change is positive. |

16group of 3teams is ok by me, a knockout stage before the 2nd round, more slot for Africa. |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Nobody: 10:08am On Dec 29, 2016 |
If it's 48 teams, the slot formula can be UEFA -19 CAF- 8 CONMEBOL- 6 CONCACAF- 6 AFC- 7 OFC- 2. There would be no intercontinental playoffs. |

CFCman:see cheating o o o... FIFA has never been 'fair' with it's game. From spot aloted to seeding down to awards giving without excluding hosting rights. All these favours d Europeans. Imagine that small no f slots for South Americans who have won 9 out of 20 f d said competition. Abeg na Europe get country pass-even to d african continent 8 is still a small number compared to their 19 which will almost double their present slots. I stand with Baba Icon4s on this, make dem leave am alone @ 32 teams. |

Tevez earning "£1 per second" The former City striker’s move to Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua will reportedly earn him £615,000-per-week. Meaning he is the highest-paid player in the world. That’s £32m per year, £88,000 per day, £3,600 per hour, £60 per minute and £1 per second. No need to continue hustling. Yara Yara, shine my football boots. ![]() |

Kelechi's impact is undeniable Still doesn’t look likely to start though... Squawka Football ✔@Squawka Kelechi Iheanacho has been directly involved in a Premier League goal once every 75.8 minutes since the start of last season. Goal magnet. |
