Op next time do proper findings... That was how I almost fell for such trick back then in 2014, got an SMS that I've been shortlisted for an interview, (me wey no apply) that I should bring along my credentials and 10k to Lagos that I have just two days to show up. I simply deleted the nonsense text. grin

Never become so desperate that you'd neglect what common sense should point out during a job search.

Every firm has an address. If it's a firm that outsourced, the recruitment firm also has an address. Not to mention a functional website.

Be smart, even when desperate.

Best of luck in your future endeavors OP.
Exactly, first thing I do is to Nairaland or Google search. Any legit company has a website or at least a matching Address online.

Always...look before you leap . ... and never ignore red flags... you had many waving in your face.... from the primary school dropout level writings of your graduate friend.... to the photo but no name no address of the company nor job description. Next time you pass by... it wouldn't hurt to send a few rotten eggs crashing high on the gates of the entrance... even those who can't read would know the company stinks.

Op, my own story is a bit similar to yours. Mine was a friend that we both went to the same secondary school and University. We were even in the same faculty.
He lured me and said I will make more money than the job which I got that period and was still contemplating to accept the job offer because of the pay. He made me reject the job and waste my tfare, gave them the last money I had with me. I felt so bad because I trusted him and he was a strong church guy.
I have forgiven him ooo but I have not forgotten, he will still refund that money when he least expect it.

Please be aware and tell anyone you love to be aware of anyone even "love" ones. The person I trusted most during my NYSC that ended just two months ago contacted me to ask how far about job. I will quote as she sent the SMS ;

"Uncle(NCCF name) how "is" uuu? Saw ur call yesterday. Called u dis morning bur u dint pick. Ow fa have u got somtin doing? There's dis company av been called 4 an interview at lag. Still there dats Y have been busy lately. They r trying to get a new staff b4 Jan. I discuss wit d person who dat helped me submit my CV wen I saw ur call yesterday so i informed her abt u. She has informed d Director of d company so u can call me around 5pm 4 more details still busy now:-) takia"

I was joyous reading the msg that day and could not wait for 5pm to reach. After series of conversations for some days, she made me have a picture of a Big international company that I can benefit from her link to secure a job. I noticed as well she hid some vital information from me like the deep work of the company, address, etc All she says is; "don't worry". All i need to come over to do is to come for interview and immediately start 3 weeks training, and I was assured of accommodation provision by the company.

To bring the story to an end, I started the journey from Ilorin kwara state to Lagos without been given an address until I was on my way already. I got to Lagos d same day and went for interview the next day(today). At the instant of reaching d venue of interview, I knew I had bn deceived to come to Lagos I ve not been to before.
I just saw large crowd seated in circles with an instructor in each group, others going up and down, some paying money like giving account. I quickly knew as I saw different kinds of people there, some with dirty clothes, some with Polo shirts, some with faded clothes, some with casual dress, I even saw clothes with stitches and patches on. I was embarrassed, unlike me that dressed in full corporate there with my file. I was more embarrassed when I was told CV or certificate is not a criteria for employment there my file was even collected to show as example. From so called interview which I saw as forceful brainwashing talk about money making amidst looking outside, we all moved to a Hall for hours of serious brainwashing and madness with slangs and appraisals for those who had reached high level in d networking business. If anyone was seen not being attentive, sitting relaxed, dozing or worst of all operating phone would be publicly embarrassed at any session. Nobody could leave the venue as well.

At d end of all, new members were to pay #12,600 to join. Various payment means had been devised to pay instantly at the venue before leaving. At the worst level, if not whole amount, one can pay like 5k and d rest in installment. I experienced even worst, I told the lady that attended to me I only have #1,500 left to manage as I come, she said I should bring the money she would cater for my feeding. Telling her abt how I was deceived with d job interview as what I told everyone at home, she encouraged me to lie to family members the interview did click well and I'm starting training immediately. So, they should send me money for feeding and transport which I ll rather use to complete my #12,600 registration.

I'm presently in Lagos street at Iyana Ipaja, thinking on how to leave here and go back home. I did not fall for their grammatical blunders and unconvincingly sugar coated mouth, but my dearest friend(who is a female) deceived me. Although, I wish her all the best as I can see she has been brainwashed and joined them as they sinfully make use of bible references in convincing people.

PLEASE BE AWARE of undisclosed job opportunity invite especially in Lagos.

I almost fell prey to this kind of interview in Ilorin last year. Beta Consult to be precise. A lady who they said came from Lagos spent about 2 hours telling a story of her life and lambasting all graduates. Their "office" is still at Airport Road, opposite Rockfield Filling Station. It was a nasty experience.

Reading the numerous accounts on this thread shows how wicked and desperate people can get just to make money off innocent people. When karma bites back hard in future they start blaming imaginary forces.

Wow, that must have been very painful. You should have held on to the job you got. A bird at hand is worth more than many in the bush. But why are people wicked like this? sad

That's how they do, all these companies without name. That's how a lady called me on phone that I have interview with their company, though I saw the their msg but there was no company name, only the address.

I asked her the name of the company, she was trying to cover everything, she said they are into this, bla.. bla.., I told her point blank that if she cannot tell me their company name, I'm not showing for the interview.

She later sent the company address, I said to her "no be me"

They are time waster, they want to lure everyone into networking business. "Whether na by force"

This is not fair at all, though Gnld networking scheme is legit and all,one thing I greatly dislike about these Gnld marketers is their lies and fraudulent means of getting down lines, they disguise as a company, send you SMS,with fake vacancy positions. Some will travel from other states to attend their interview, only to see its a marketing business.
This is not fair, its wicked, why not state that you are Gnld marketers, and let people decide if they are interested or not?
. and mmm that clearly warmed participants before registering, Nigerian government seen it as evil fighting her with all avenue

It happened during one session holiday, normally, anytime I'm home from school no more pocket money so I vowed to look for a part-time job.Armed with my resolution I stormed jiji and found ads for weekend ushering job at some event centre. All that was required was a white top and black skirt and ssce qualification.
I had 1200 left with me and left for the place well dress, blouse tucked into a smart skirt with a nice blazers on.I got there after so much stress (cause I don't know where gbagada is) only to find about 300 youths in a large tent in a dirty and Sandy compound. I sha waited thinking the patient dog eats the fattest bone, since I'm there i might as well see what I come for.The lady in charge wasnsha saying orisirisi nonsense....she went to lasu (I think she was expecting me to say waoh at this point)..she started with this gold calculations at the end of which she Said I'd be making 300k.I sha said ok,so she said they are having a seminar inside.
When I got there I saw someone talking to youths dressed so shabily and the youths where clapping intermittently when he says something as if they were in a cult or something they all looked brainwashed.Na so fear catch me,I told the lady I was leaving,Na so 2 ladies not more than 18 and one guy who looked like he was in his late twenties started begging me that my life will change that the porverty in my life will be no more, Na then I know say I don enter kasala. As I turned to go,one of the ladies grabbed my hand,I shouted on her and yanked my hand away and started running towards their rusty gate. It was until I got to the bus stop I stopped running.
The 1200 I was supposed to be managing till I resumed remained 140. since then anytime I go home I'd just sit jejely till I resumed and I never brought up the issue of working during holidays again.
