Iwobi has come in with relatively less expectation than most, we are all almost suprised when he does anything exceptional. Akpom comparatively had huge expectations on his head. I remember a Chukwuma once of Arsenal then on loan to Crewe now I don’t know what's become of him, he once had huge expectations placed on him. It's better to be unknown while you develop without media attention than have your game assessed under the microscope every time you play. Not every player can take the pressure. |

Icon4s: Aguero, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mikel (who Alex Ferguson watched when Eguavoen camped the U17 team at Old Trafford) were tipped for Greatness before they turned 17. When Aguero played the U20 with Messi, Mikel and Fabregas in 2005, he was within the age of 17/18. That was why Aguero could play in the 2007 U20. Ronaldinho was tipped for Greatness in the 1997 period when he was U17. |

komekn: Media attention or not, it boils down to discipline and hardwork. When a player loses these, it is hard to make it. CR7 has won it all but he stays disciplined and keeps pushing himself. |

safarigirl:It is not about height alone but leap. Among all of them, none of them can leap like Iheanacho. That was not a part of his game but under Guardiola he keeps improving on it. I applauded him yesterday when he lifted up and headed the ball to Yaya. That was not an easy skill to deal with a clearance with such touch. None of the City forwards can pull that off. |

TheGoodJoe:So he learnt how to jump under pep? Lawd!!!!! is there anything that you won't say to defend this guy? If he has improved so much why wasn't he winning any aerial duel against Huth and Morgan? you gave another flimsy excuse then which I can't even remember again, now because he won a couple of headers against....what is the name of the defenders that Burnley paraded that day? you are now tagging him an aerial beast because of that? Nna eh |

TheGoodJoe:common this man! Do you have to attribute EVERY SINGLE iheanacho improvement to Pep Guardiola? This is becoming ridiculous tbh. Iheanacho can leap higher, it must be Guardiola. |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 5:31pm On Jan 03, 2017 |
Icon4s: First of all, we have players who were tipped for Greatness before U17. A good example is Alexis Sanchez. Who Udinesse signed as a small boy. Neymar's noise started when he was fifteen. Ronaldinho was also a kid. Played the U17. CR7, 16 at Sporting when Arsenal and Liverpool tried signing him. Adriano was also 17 when he burst into the scene. There are many others. Someone Like Maradona was also a young kid tipped for Greatness. |

TheGoodJoe:you do not understand, he meant they were rated not because of their performance at the U17 world cup but because of their performances for their clubs, he wasn't talking about age just the occasion |

daveP:Right now...I take Ideye over Success. Success seems to have a problem with injuries. I saw some Watford fans lamenting his injuries. I wonder how it seems to be like that. When he gets over his injuries and proves himself, then I will take him over Ideye. |

PietroRico: Please, who should we attribute Iheanacho's recent improvement in his leap too? Pellegrini? Vieira? The first time I saw Iheanacho make a brilliant leap was in the Manchester derby. The one he headed the ball and Kevin De Bruyne scored. That was the early sign. Now he is getting more comfortable winning ball in the air. I see him improving. Guardiola made his admiration of Peter Crouch's aerial ball control and I expected to see how he could adapt that to Iheanacho. Recently, Guardiola makes the City team spend two and a half hours a day on practicing to win aerial balls. How do you expect Iheanacho to show improvement in that area and you want Guardiola not to get credit for it? |

joseph1013:not to mention that Ideye's link up play is far better than his own. if we are to play a possession based game we do not need to play a striker that likes taking on players. Benzema does not take on players but his link up play is exceptional and I would easily take him ahead of Aguero who turns selfish most of the time. |

Mickael2: Iheanacho is no more rated based on his U17 exploits. We are way past that. Iheanacho's rep came from his first pre-season game under Pellegrini against Sporting Kansas. Iheanacho was the best player among the City players on tour in America. Scored a spectacular goal. The Goal commentator ended his comment with something like, Pellegrini should sign Iheanacho in the stadium before he leaves. Iheanacho's rise also in the EDS was also meteoric. Among the bright talents in the academy, he was the one picked as the top promising player. In a short time, Kelechi Iheanacho stood out as a potential bright star. If you take into context that the City scouts monitored Iheanacho before the U17 World Cup, his EDS exploits already confirmed their belief. Iheanacho followed that up with another brilliant pre-season and an explosive debut season. He is clearly one of the standout players of the Super Eagles at such a young age. Two CNN goals of the week playing for Nigeria. I do not think or see how Iheanacho is riding on the U17 conquering exploits. |

Mickael2:I prefer strikers who take on players and play with pace. That I what we have in Success. However, I agree with Joseph1013 that he should sort his injury issues first before fighting for a place in the Super Eagles. |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m): 5:54pm On Jan 03, 2017 |
BascoVanVeli:Exactly! Yet you don't see the commentators dwelling on it. If that was Nacho, they would never stop talking about it. We really need to fix and monetize our league so that most of our guys would start playing at home. I am really sick and tired of all the racist refs, coaches, and match announcers in EPL. O pari |

Mickael2: Understand the message before running in. From the game against Leicester City to Iheanacho's game yesterday. His leap has improved. He is more comfortable going for the ball in the air. I commented once that Iheanacho replicates what Guardiola wants. Try and jump. Try and press. Try and track back. You see the young man exemplifying this on the field. In the last two games against Liverpool, he is showing much improvement. So, why drag us back to Huth. Please, can you tell me what I am defending? I am explaining improvements and you are talking defending. |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 5:59pm On Jan 03, 2017 |
Mickael2: How can anyone call an improvement in aerial presence, AERIAL BEAST? I wonder where you got that because it is certainly not from me. In the game yesterday, Iheanacho did not win every ball. I believe he lost more than he won. So how will you equate my comment to beast. I said Iheanacho's aerial presence has improved and I expect it to keep improving. |

joseph1013:Injury or no injury, Success is head and shoulders ahead of Ideye. It isn't even a close contest sef. But having said that, his injury problems since joining the EPL is becoming a real concern. And it's weird because he rarely gets injuries when he was in La Liga. I think we all need to pray seriously for him concerning what's going on in Watford. Something must be wrong somewhere. O pari |

TheGoodJoe:remind me how he got a work permit to play for city? his arrival at city was because of his exploits at the U17 which granted him a work permit. you keep on mentioning last season, at 20 Messi, Ronaldo and. the rest were already regulars for their clubs which Iheanacho has not managed, my point is that my expectations from Nacho will remain low until he can manage to play 30 games a season then we will see how good he is, not because of a few starts and other substitute appearances. |

Icon79:It's very simple the EPL is the toughest and most physically demanding league in the world. Nearly every player who has come from the other continental leagues has to spend some time to beef up and be physically resilient I really haven't seen Success have a consistent run of games to say conclusively he is " Head and shoulders above Ideye" I do feel he Ideye completely flopped in the EPL. |

| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 6:15pm On Jan 03, 2017 |
Mickael2: You can have low expectations of Iheanacho. I do not. When CR7 was at Manchester United as a youngster, there was no one to compete with him on the right. If David Beckham was there, he would bench and learn from Beckham. Iheanacho has football great ahead of him. Aguero is a scoring beast. That is why he is not playing much games. Finish. No one is saying Iheanacho did not get work permit through U17. When people talk of Iheanacho at City today, the talk is about his exploit wearing the sky blue Jersey and not U17. He has accomplished some impressive feats at City for us to talk of U17. Iheanacho did not join City first team with U17 but his pre-season and EDS exploits. |

| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 6:18pm On Jan 03, 2017 |
Mickael2: Okay it is by name. You did not see me said Iheanacho also showed improvement at Liverpool? Okay those ones do not have names? Iheanacho showed good leap. The name of the defender, does not change the leap. Iheanacho showed composure. Passed some balls with the head. The name of the defender does not change this. I did not say Iheanacho is an aerial beast. I say Iheanacho even lost some balls. So I do not get your problem. One man's moi moi is another man's akara. You do not believe in Iheanacho's talent. I do. Finish. |

From what I derived today, the height you jumped against Burnley is indirectly proportional to the height you jumped against Leicester City. LOLS. |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by komekn(m): 6:24pm On Jan 03, 2017 |
Mickael2:The height of the defenders is not the overriding statistic. Two things count strength and your jump rate. I know that the Burnley FC club record for the highest jump rate during thier bench testing in the club is 43inches and the player with that record is well under 6ft. When you are airborne and if you don't have some physical presence right in the air you will be barged off the ball. I watched Anichebe win every ball in the air when they Sunderland played Liverpool about two weeks ago. That is something Kelechi can not do its simply not part of his game and he isn't built that way either. |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by komekn(m): 6:29pm On Jan 03, 2017 |
Talking about jump rate Koscielny is barely 6"1 but he won every header over Lukaku who is much bigger and about 6"3 plus. Again I'm talking strength and jump rate not size and height they don't always equate to dominance in the air. Drogba wasn't the most muscular but he was strong and had a very good jump rate, in his prime he dominated the air. |
| Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 6:32pm On Jan 03, 2017 |
komekn: Nice input. Enlightening. The strength issue is a big mystery. Recently, some journalist visited Kevin De Bruyne's home and noticed the absence of weights. He explained that Guardiola wants them as light as possible. Kevin De Bruyne still hinted he was strong but if you notice, City lacks in th physical game. Especially the forwards. However, there is the essence of speed which helps neutralise the lack of strength. A good example is Iheanacho's display yesterday. He kept on running and evading the defenders. So, if we take the leap, players like Carroll, Crouch and Anichebe can go for the ball without caring about the defending players. Iheanacho on the other hand evades the defenders before going for the ball. That was why one of the improvements I pointed out of Iheanacho yesterday was his increase in mobility. The young man kept running and I am waiting to see how much he improves from yesterday. |

Mickael2:Now you want to bring another dimension that is known but not necessarily openly acknowledged. Remember that film " White men can't Jump" then add to that African natural athleticism. Then you see there are exceptions most Africans go chop EPL for fun if they have the right attitude, read the game and understand the team philosophy. The two strongest players in English football if not the World are from Nigeria. |

The City manager (Guardiola) claimed Swansea City’s chaotic 5-4 victory over Crystal Palace last month, when eight goals originated from set-pieces, was the moment he properly “understood English football”. Guardiola will not kill me with laugh.
