HAH:If the locally produced canned tomatoes are not relevant locally, there is nothing saying that we cannot export and earn foreign exchange for the country. It might interest you to know that Nigeria is the 15th largest producer of tomatoes in the world. While other countries are processing and exporting their excess, over 60% of annual yield is wasted away due to a lack of processing capacity. |

godoluwa:That you mentioned Gino means you don't know good tomatoes. Gino is a horrible brand, which specializes in making dark and horrible looking paste. Wish the days of De Rica could be rolled back. |

Dem don press button, now the importers can't import there's anymore cos its now banned, na only dangote own go dey sell, I am not against it but they have to sell it to us at an affordable price, e.g if imported ones cost 400naira, angote's own should be 200naira |

SexyBabe001:/ That's smart. Introduce Tuta Absoluta to kill off competitors. Then sell GMO seeds to farmers. When all the carcinoma that are decimating the West burns through Nigeria, it will be like a gas station on fire. / |

ceejay80s:The govt has said it will ban tomato paste imports completely this 2017, but everyone folds their hands and waits for only Dangote and Erisco to produce everything (I even hear erisco has moved his production out of Nigeria to China where production is cheaper). Very soon when tomato paste importation is banned and Dangote becomes the only one, people would start the usual lamentations again about how Dangote is monopolising everything. |

obailala:Its not even about monopolising, let him just make it cheap and affordable and same time the quality should remain same or increased and never decreased and sold at same price, u don't expect me to buy dangotes own when other imported ones are cheaper and beter in quality and quantity |
| Re: Dangote Tomato Factory Reopens February by obailala(m): 12:38pm On Jan 04, 2017 |
ceejay80s:It will not be cheaper or better than the imported ones, at least not for now; this is something we should all have in mind. It is this lure for cheaper and seemingly better quality products that led a giant Nigeria to being a crippled begging nation which imports everything including toothpick, palm oil and petrol. If we must get it right again as a nation, we must be prepared to just manage/tolerate whatever rubbish we can produce for now. It will get better with time. |

godoluwa:see bad belle, cant u just commend something good for once?... did u know how many ppl will get employment thru dat venture, and it's contribution to our economy? once we are get it right, and have enough local production, that ur Gino, and watever will be banned completely.... |

Nice one |
| Re: Dangote Tomato Factory Reopens February by louqas: 1:52pm On Jan 04, 2017 |
godoluwa:The more reason they have to be encouraged so that they can produce good quality paste like Gino. In this day and age it is a big shame for us to be importing tomato paste from other countries when we have enough capacity for self sufficiency and export of tomato. We keep exporting our jobs to those countries and wonder why we have high unemployment. Dangote/erisco should be encouraged . |

uboma:Not in Enugu here... I've searched Shoprite and Roban Stores, nothing. The last time I was in PH, which was about a month ago, I had to stop at Park N Shop to get some things and also checked. Found nothing. I know it is available in Lagos though. I even used it about a year back. |

HAH:Sorry sir, u sound very naive... were u on this planet when there was shortage of tomatoes sometime last year hope ur wife was not affected since she is a specialist in drying tomatoes, tomato u are seeing will get perish if not preserve and in no time u will start blaming PMB for tomato shortage. Because ur wife feed u with dried tomatoes does not means everybody likes it. There shouldn't be a tomato paste industry because ur wife is a specialist in drying tomatoes Will she feed the whole nation with her dried tomatoes![]() |

The only reason he is reopening the factory is because of the cheapness of tomatoes now. So expect price of tomatoes to rise |

Sanchez01:Gino is more popular than any other brand of tomatoes paste among the common man. Besides I used Gino as example, and yes you can also have the taste of both erisco & dangote tomatoes paste to know what am saying. Get yourself dangote noodles as well and compare it with popular indomie. you cant force me to ear something that the manufacturer himself can't eat just because you want to buy naija to grow naira. |
| Re: Dangote Tomato Factory Reopens February by godoluwa(m): 10:16pm On Jan 04, 2017 |
louqas:but these companies are not ready to give us quality product. dangote can't eat tomatoe paste produced in his own factory and you want me yo eat it? America do import some of the foods that they consumed over there, I will be glad if you can check the difference between dangote noodles & that if popular indomie noodles. |

| Re: Dangote Tomato Factory Reopens February by louqas: 3:02pm On Jan 05, 2017 |
godoluwa:The fact that indomie is the market leader doesn't mean other noodles are not edible or harmful so also is tomato paste . Dangote paste is fit for consumption and certified so in this case quality is relative as far as the paste meet acceptable standard. Like peak milk is probably the best quality and most expensive milk doesn't make three crown or Luna unfit for consumption. |
