Well, all glory to God over the PCN. For our informacion, peace corps is an international organization. UN has estabished peace corps for almost ten years ago if not more. When the public hearing was held after second reading, where all the fomer head of states, military and para-military officers were invited, over ninety percent supported an act to establish peace corps. Only police and civil defence that stood against the bill. Army airforce and others are always in support of peace corps. They know why. Another thing is that, peace corps cannot be merged with other security groups like police and co. One, is an international organization like army. Two, peace corps passed through due proceses as required by the Nigeria constitution. Unlike some whose bill went straight to the National Assebly from the president and be signed in, such çan suffer hijacking and merging. Amb. Dickson Akoh is still the NC, meaning that, whosoever that get trained under him would not be left out after the president's ascention. So, if you are interested, locate peace corps state headquarter in your state and join before the door closes. Always remember that Nairalanders are not the federal government and our will herein nairaland can never be forced the government especially if God is involved. Chat me up for info on. 08134780680.

I suggest you learn more about the Nigerian Armed forces. An excellent place to start is Beegeagles blog which is written by ex service members and contributed to by members of armed forces all over the world. This is no whitewash site. It highlights the deficiency and otherwise in the armed forces
https://beegeagle./2015/01/28/special-focus-on-the-nigerian-militarys-new-chinese-built-ch-3-unmanned-air-combat-vehicles-armed-drones/

The air arm of the armed forces is a lot like Nigeria itself; showing high tech capability alongside surprising service gaps. Only three countries in Africa beside Nigeria have air surveillance capabilities; Egypt, South Africa and Angola. Nigerias ATR42 is an awesome machine. It not only permits excellent battlefield imagery but can coordinate and guide smart bombs and missiles to target well above AA threats. When you string three of these aircraft together you get an early warning capability that is simply awesome. With nigeria's new J10 aircraft this is an awesome prospect.

There is a tendency to knock all things Nigerian and fair enough, it often deserves it. But we must also give credit where it is due. One good development arising out of the NE theatre is an extremely robust service network; from engineering to battlefield. And not in theory but in battle hardness and experience

I read beegagle's blog. . . awesome pictures and updates on that website, so we're both big fans wink

Next, it's a bit insulting to us that Nigeria as the most populous black nation on earth can only prove to be behind 4 different African countries with significantly lesser population. Also remember that any country can purchase any military technology at any time, so I don't see those things as feats. One of the reasons why I'll always respect S.A is that they have so many internally developed machines. We have DICON here in Nigeria manufacturing a Nigerian variant of the AK47, some bullet proof vests etc, but we don't really spend much on research and development. The military should have the best brains pioneering technology and development, not all these Buratai talking about rearing cows in the army. . . sheesh!

I really believe it's easy to talk about our hardware and tech when we're not really comparing with facts. . . How I wish we had access to other real-time military info and not all these online ranking. I know Nigeria is like 5th in Africa, but that's a huge slap on our face, take it or leave it. We should be the China of Africa even in terms of military strength and tech.

I love the Nigerian Armed Forces. . . I just think a lot more has to be done. We need more. . . I'm all for the establishment of a new military force.

as an international organization like you pointed out, will the UN fund it?

''...Amb. Dickson Akoh is still the NC, meaning that, whosoever that get trained under him would not be left out after the president's assent. ''

do you know that even after the the bill has been signed by PMB ratio of real officers to volunteer officers would be 20%(officers)-80%(volunteers)

i will keep telling ppl that they should not pay any 5k for recruitment form or 45k for some phony training. when the federal government takes over fully there wont be need to pay for training or to buy recruitment form.

From the little research i did, peace corp is an American NGO that provides voluntary humanitarian services in many countries worldwide, judging from the old pics they dont have a uniform, they usually carried out their operations in mufty.

JUST IN: 20th January has been fixed as the deadline for the payment of the 40k for those that were enlisted in Abuja.

Finally, truth has triumphed over falsehood and
the day has been separated from the night. On
this platform, we intimate the general public on
the status of the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill.
Today, with joy and all sense of clarity, we
provide report of the Conference Committee of
the National Assembly bestowed with the
mandate to harmonise the Nigerian Peace
Corps Bill.

You may wish to recall that both the Senate
and House of Representatives in 2016 passed
two different versions of the Nigerian Peace
Corps Bill. This development calls for the need
to harmonise the Bill in line with the rules of the
National Assembly before it will be transmitted
to Mr President for his assent.
It is therefore in view of this that the two
Chambers of the National Assembly setup a
Conference Committee to reconcile the Nigerian
Peace Corps Bill in their respective Plenary in
November, 2016.

It is noteworthy to re-state that the core
mandate of the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill is to
Empower, Develop and provide gainful
employment for the youths, to Facilitate Peace,
Volunteerism, Community Services,
Neigbhourhood Watch, Nation-building and
other related matters.
However, history was once again made today
with the laying and approval of the report of the
Conference Committee on the Nigerian Peace
Corps Bill by the two Chambers of the National
Assembly.

The Committee observed differences in twelve
(12) Clauses of the Bill passed and
consequently harmonized same. The major
aspects of the Bill that where harmonized are
as follows:

• The outright rejection of the Clause that
included the National Unity and Peace Corps in
the Bill. It would be recalled that it was only the
Senate that passed the National Unity and
Peace Corps Bill, while that of our organization,
the Nigerian Peace Corps was passed by both
the Senate and House of Representatives.
During the Conference Committee of the two
chambers, the House of Representatives out-
rightly rejected the National Unity and Peace
Corps Bill on the ground that the Bill was never
before it.

• Clause 37(g) was adopted with an
amendment to read “that groups, associations
and organisations that have similar objectives
and have shown or demonstrated interest to be
absorbed as members of the Nigerian Peace
Corps shall be absorbed subject to the
mandatory Initial Training/Orientation
Programme as prescribed from time-to-time
upon the commencement of this Act”.
• It is equally significant to stress here that the
Conference Committee retains the domiciling of
the Nigerian Peace Corps in the Federal
Ministry of Youth Development; the Ministry
that is statutorily vested with the responsibility
of overseeing youth matters.

• The Committee retains the age limit of
individuals who shows interest to be enlisted
as members of the Nigerian Peace Corps to be
between 18 and 35 years upon the
commencement of this Act.
• Above all, the nomenclature or better still, the
title of the Head of the Nigerian Peace Corps as
recognized by the Act is the ‘National
Commandant’.

The harmonized report has finally put to rest all
the needless controversies bordering on which
organization’s Bill that was passed by the
National Assembly. Find enclosed, for
confirmation, the order paper on the set
proceedings of today’s seating.

The consolidated report approved by the House
of Representatives today has brought to
conclusion all legislative processes. Thus, the
Nigerian Peace Corps Bill is now ripe and ready
to be transmitted to Mr President for his
assent.

In view of this significant milestone in the
history this organisation, on behalf of the entire
Officers and Men of the Peace Corps of Nigeria
and the Nigerian Youths as a whole, I wish to
express our profound appreciation to the
leadership and the entire members of the
National Assembly for their sense of patriotism,
high sense of justice and the confidence
reposed in this organisation.

Despite the prevailing economic realities, I urge
all officers and men of this organization
nationwide as well as our supporters and well-
wishers to exercise patience as we remain
hopeful and highly optimistic that the President
will assent to this all-important Bill as soon as
possible.

God bless Peace Corps of Nigeria!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
