Elephant/lafarge 32.5R cement is the best in terms of quality and strength for buidling in Nigeria

But it takes time to set(initial and final setting)

For me It all depends on the stage of work. When doing concrete works. Elephant yellow label is better. But when plastering dangote works for me. Then as for laying of bricks you can go for what's available

For now, I prefer the Elephant supaset. (Orange label) I have found it to bond quicker and the compressive strength I get is satisfactory.

Sir, do you know superset is specifically produced for block making

Yes. Superset is preferred by most block makers. Another cement I see them buy mostly is Ibeto and BUA.

I'm trying to find a thread by one of the builders where some of the pillars were formed inside of blocks instead of wood form.

Thanks.

Powerful house. I still remember this house like it's yesterday. The fun we had while doing this project was my main inspiration.

Off-Topic Thread - To Discuss Anything and Everything that doesn't fit into an individual thread.
Let's discuss everything pertaining to Building Constructions, Real estate and some more.

Note: Please no products or services advertisements... there are plenty of other threads for that already.

Good day sir,
I sincerely need your advice. I am building a 3 bedroom duplex which has already been decked. We used nine inches block exclusively for the ground floor which comprises of a a living room, a guest room, kitchen, dining and store.
1. What size of block is appropriate for the the first floor? Is it nine or six inches? What are the merits and demerits of using either?
2. Can you please give me a rough estimate of how many blocks I will need for the first floor of 3 bedrooms( including one master's bedroom) and a mini living room.
Thanks in anxious anticipation as my next move defends on this. Tnx.

Nassarawa is an option as long as it is in a very good location in close proximity to Abuja. The distance must not be more than 35 minutes drive from Abuja metropolis. It must have tarred road and other basic amenities to compensate for not being in Abuja. You know if you can get me the land, you are automatically building it. I'm not going to buy piece of land in Nassarawa without having those things I listed.
. There are lands for sale from Mararaba-Nyanya axis, Keffi, all in Nassarawa, which are all in proximity to Abuja. If you still interested in getting a land there kindly contact me via 08039387432/benavoh@gmail.com for further discuss on getting a good land to erecting a befitting structure on it. Thanks.

Did I not tell all of you guys nothing will happen to Lekki Gardens, this is Nigeria. Those execs from LG probably drink at thesame bar with the authorities that are supposed to checkmate them and probably even share same girl friends self.

mavverick:
Oga twinskenny

When you say contractor, do you mean LG as a company or the actual subcontractor that put up the building, the one that LG asked to build it ?
Make we bet am, nothing will happen to LG and in a few months time when the dust settles, they will start selling again. This is nija, you will just hear that the foreigners mostly Cotonou and Togo people have been settled.

Despite the below, would anyone consider lekki gardens, they are offering a 6 bedroom terrace close to Chevron for 29m grin grin. Normally in that area 3/4 terraces houses (that is if you find them) will go for over 30-35m.

Culled from castles magazine.

Lekki Gardens innovative offers got a lot of buzz in the market

Lekki Gardens, the real estate development company with attractive marketing promotions and unmatched prices for its apartment units, suffered significant set-back when on Tuesday the 8th of March 2016 a 5-storey building it was constructing in the Lekki axis came crashing down. The result was that over 30 people lost their lives and the Lagos State Government shut down the operations of the company and its estates.

As a testament to its resilience, the company which started business only four years ago but gained nationwide fame for its customer-centric pricing, has announced its intention to return to the market. In a move to boost confidence of its current subscribers and the market in general, the company has announced that it is strengthening its corporate governance structure by the appointment of high flyers and reputable professionals to the positions of Chief Estate Relations officers, Chief Legal Officer, Chief Human Capital Advisor and most important, a Chief Technical Officer to ‘oversee the development of new estates’

Also announced as part of the package is the Health, Safety and Environment Standards as well as Quality Assurance Policy for the company. The company has engaged some of the brightest and best hands to execute these policies and encourages subscribers and prospective buyers to view and verify the data and processes.

As an additional layer of assurance, the company has announced the engagement of the cream of the construction industry as external consultants. In structural engineering you cannot do better than Ove Arup & Partners, the firm of Morgan, Omonitan & Abe, UFA Associates, OAA Associates and Pinconsult Associates, who among others have been engaged by Lekki Gardens. On the architecture side, A.T Onajide Associates and OAC Architects have impeccable pedigree and the firms have been engaged to redesign some of the projects.

The company has promised an improved system of communications and engagement with both the public and its subscribers. This new system of openness and transparency was tested when the Residents Associations of one of its locations, complained about the state of infrastructure in the estate. Lekki Gardens responded by tackling the problem head-on by engaging aerial consultants to examine the issue and discussing the article openly instead of smothering it.

The results of an informal poll conducted on twenty CASTLES Lifestyle readers showed that the public would be receptive to new offerings from Lekki Gardens as all respondents said they would consider any interesting offer from the company. “They should do Christmas for us” was the cheeky response of one of them.

Happy New Year.

It's the concrete rings that they put inside the well to stop collapse of the walls.

Similar to this.

Ahh makes sense now.
The last well i used over 2 decades ago now in Lagos did have the ring, I wonder how they do it. With what you have said about your rocky terrain on a high altitude, have you considered borehole ? Could also sit well with your plans to go off grid, if you get solar pump.

I'm not an expert but for mine we used 9" for all the exterior walls and anywhere there was a pillar/column (I think) and 6" for the inside rooms, regardless of the floor level.

Sorry.. I miss this.
1. I will advise you to continue using the 9inches blocks because of the size of structural columns (pillars) and beams that may already put into the building.
But you can use the 6inches in some areas for partitions. If you are trying to save on cost, 6inches won't save you much money.

2. Sorry this is not easy to estimate because no building is the same. Calculation of the blocks will need the plan with all the measurements
readable on it. If you know how many blocks was used on the ground floor, you could estimate on the top floors.

Hajji M.
