I disagree with Mr Olufemi's comment. Obazee's stance that only Chartered Accountants should be members of the audit committee is a good step that should be commended! Why would shareholders vote/appoint another shareholder who has no idea on what audits is all about be a member of the committee?

What a country!
Is it only chartered accountants that understand accounting procedures?

That move was just so timely! The guy was a relic of an era of impunity and rashness. Some of these appointees have forgotten that they will leave some day. Yes, we need corporate governance codes, but you can't make a code and expect it to apply across board when different companies and industries have their various unique characteristics. Its preposterous.

Emefiele next abeg.

Christians, dont rejoice yet,
it might go from frying pan to fire.

he has achieved his aim, which was to kick start the FRC in Churches.

Now they (sponsors of the whole thing) have realised that retiring from being the head of the church in Nigeria doesnt cripple the founders of such church as there are other branches outside the country, thus, the founder can still have much affluence and influence.

They want to appoint another person whomwill take it further by reviewing the code.

Be asured, the foolishness of God is greater than the wisdom of men. if God dont permit, it will work to their disadvantage.
The same thing happened when they killed Jesus, not knowing thry were fulfilling scriptures, for if God didnt permit, Jesus woudnt have died.

The ploy to keep Nigeria in perpetual savitude is a strong one even among religious groups. For the first time in the history of Nigeria a govt official implements policies to the letter even to the detriment of stakeholders who hold this nation to ransom and gets fired for it. I really don't think change begins with Buhari this time around. You sack an official simply because a GO of a church resigned and yet wants a beta Nigeria whr laws are obeyed? Funny!

Bro, you have said it all..... The matter jus tire me mehn!!!! Naija, we hail thee!!!!

Not because baba Adeboye stepped aside, but was expecting it the moment I realized the sultan of sokoto will be affected too, as he is already 70years old......

Nigerians prefer to have things done the old way. We are receptive to change. They prefer to have a novice in the audit committee. Little wonder then, the quality of annual reports being shun out by our quoted companies.

I don't understand what you guys stand to gain by turning things around.

If you were informed that he was sacked, you should as well been informed on the reasons for his sack.

It was clearly stated that part of the reasons for his sack was insubordination to the supervising minister. The minister asked him to put on hold the issuance of that governance code to allow room for more consultation but he went ahead disregarding the directive of the minister. In fact the minister even went a step ahead and got the approval of the president to put the issue on hold, but he still went ahead with it.

Insubordination in the civil service to a clear official directive is not taken lightly. More so when the official directive is backed by the approval of the President and Commander in Chief. Invariably, he was disrespective to the president.

pls the source of ur assertion.

Kindly read the Punch report in detail.

http://punchng.com/buhari-fires-frc-boss-adeboye-others-tenure/

Excepts below:-

The PUNCH gathered on Monday that Obazee was sacked for disobeying a directive of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Okechuckwu Enelamah, that the implementation of the regulation should be suspended.

The PUNCH, on Monday, reported that the minister had, on October 17, 2016, written the FRC boss, directing him to suspend the operation of the controversial regulation, which the Christian Association of Nigeria alleged was targeted at weakening the church.

According to the report, Obazee refused to suspend the regulation because there was no gazette backing the suspension of the regulation.

The PUNCH learnt that Enelamah had earlier recommended to Buhari that the implementation of the regulation be suspended.

A top government official, who spoke with one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity, said the President approved Enelamah’s recommendation and the minister thereafter conveyed the decision to Obazee.

The source said, “Since the minister had conveyed the President’s approval that the implementation should be suspended, it was taken for granted that it had been suspended.

“Surprisingly, the Presidency received a report that during the Christmas period, Obazee hosted chief executives of some quoted companies to a dinner.

“It was at that dinner that he reportedly told his guests that the law had taken effect and would be implemented.

“The report got to the government and the President was angry about it.

Another source, who confirmed the development, said Buhari sacked Obazee and dissolved the board of the FRC on Monday based on the recommendation of Enelamah.

A top source in the Presidency, who confided in The PUNCH on Monday, stated that Obazee was sacked because he defied the directive of the minister.

“The President was irked by the fact that the FRC disobeyed the directive of the minister that the regulation should be suspended,” the source stated.

Another source added that the Presidency found it curious that a regulation, which the Council could not implement during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, was being enforced under Buhari.

“Although the regulation dated back to Jonathan’s administration, why did he fail to implement it and ask the religious leaders to resign? Why did the council wait till the present administration before insisting on its implementation?” the source asked.

First great job by President Buhari.

I hope the law will be put on hold till eternity.

That man have Bleep up big time.

Banana Adeboye prayer will scattered them all. You cannot fight God and win.

More will follow

the worst action of late by Mr. President.
Even Mr. Timothy who is happy over his sack is a mediocre. He doesnt like the Mr. Obazee because the later maintains standard, in line with his job. This is the most proactive piece of legislation affecting religious houses in Nigeria, and Mr. President doesn't have enough balls to implement it because of 2019. Since they cant pay tax, let the leadership be tenural, 20 years is enough to disciple people to whom you will hand over, jesus christ did his in 3 years.

Africans just want to stay and be heard, yet we condemn Jammeh of Gambia.
Re: Shareholders Rejoice As Buhari Fires FRC Boss by Laid2001: 9:32am On Jan 10, 2017
The Obazee of a man was taking FRCN beyond its mandate!!

The Council is responsible for setting and promoting compliance with standards for accounting, financial reporting and auditing in Nigeria. It also regulates the practices of professionals involved in financial reporting and promotes good practices in financial reporting and corporate governance in Nigeria.

So if he is dabbling into corporate governance of the various organisations, it is outside its mandate. He should have focused on the finances and how it is accounted for. Shikena. Moreso, this was the same guy used to scuttle SLS then. He made FGN to spend money on unnecessary litigation then which FRCN lost to SLS. Although, it was like a blessing in disguise for SLS as probably would not have been Amir of Kano without that conflict with GEJ government.!

FRC has been moving from litigation to litigation in trying to muscle several organizations. More so, his tenure has ended. It is already five years since his assumption of office!.

Wen we are talking about building strong institutions, dis is wat we are doing to those that are trying to make our institutions strong. We have been running our country with sentiments n emotions in d past but now dat we have people dat are ready to say the truth to power n be role models to young ones, we sack dem n keep people like Lalung, if we continue like dis den how do we av strong institutions. If d FBI chief could investigate Hillary Clinton n no one sacked him, I think we should promote such.

Any business man knows what an audit is and besides, from the pack of shareholders there must be an accountant if not accountants.......they must not be chartered or the auditors should also doubles as the investors

Just imagine the riff-raff! You can never win with competency in this country.
Someone wants to ensure that only chattered accountants sits on your Audit board, to be able to protect your shareholders investment, but you see it as a punishment?
We keep shouting that we need strong institutions but anybody that tries to play the rule is whacked for being high-handed?

Nigeria is not ready for competency. period!
