Why not extend it to largest producer of chocolate, milo, bournvita, ovaltine and all other beverages coming from cocoa.

Must we always export crude materials and buy back finished products at higher costs?
Re: Nigeria Aims To Be World Largest Cocoa Producer by Gerrard59(m): 8:42am On Jan 15, 2017
Good luck. Last I checked, Nestlé and Mars Corporation made more money than the top four producers of the crop. I'm sure Walmart makes more money selling chocolates than Ivory Coast grin.

It's time for entrepreneurs to enter the industry (Government has no hands in business). Will I love to become a cocoa processor in the future? Yes. But will I want to run such facility on diesel generators 24/7 when a litre is currently selling for 350? No

Nigerian politicians should ensure this country gets uninterrupted power supply. After 56 years of independence, yet Singapore had hers 1965. Till then.

I READ A REPORT IN THE PAPERS WHERE THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA COCOA ASSOCIATION SAID 'THIS UNION HAS 5 MILLION MEMBERS, THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD MAKE SURE WE GET THE CORRECT PESTICIDES BECAUSE IF THE EU REFUSES OUR PRODUCE, CAN THE GOVERNMENT CURTAIL THE BACKLASH?'. IT WAS A WARNING. ANOTHER TIME IN ILE IFE, A MAN WHO IS A PRODUCE MERCHANT AND COCOA FARMER TOLD ME NIGERIA GETS MORE THAN DOUBLE THE LOAN ADVANCED TO GHANA BY THE WORLD BANK FOR COCOA YET REPORTS SAY GHANA PRODUCES MORE. SO THOSE ARE THE ISSUES. YOU CANT KNOW WHAT THIS COUNTRY PRODUCES UNTIL IT IS WELL ORGANISED. WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT ONLY THE GOVERNMENT DEPENDS ON OIL MONEY NOT THE MASSES. WHAT DOES GOVERNMENT MEAN BY SAYING THEY WANT TO DEPEND ON COCOA, THAT ISNT INTELLIGENT, CAN YOU DEPEND ON NOLLYWOOD, CASHEW EXPORT, YAHOO YAHOO, CHARCOAL EXPORT, KOLANUT, BITTER KOLA, GINGER, PKO ALL OF WHICH ARE TOP DOLLAR EARNERS? NO YOU CAN ONLY SEIZE OIL MONEY. SO YOU CAN NOT DEPEND ON COCOA!.

As usual dem don set up committee cheesy

Yes, they have set up committee as usual. Buhari and Audu Ogheh set up committee to product rice locally some months back, now we can see the rice. I have Lake (Lagos and Kebbi) rice in my house as I type this. Foreign rice has been banned in some South-Eastern states because there is now clean local rice without stones. But, the price is still crazily high, but if not for the local rice that has been produced in reasonable quantity, foreign rice will be selling for about 30,000 naira per 50kg bag now. We shall get there gradually, by the time two or three more harvests are made Nigeria will have enough rice to feed the nation and other West African nations and price will fall naturally.

What Jonathan and the voodoo farmer Akinwunmi Adesina could not do in six years, Buhari and Audu Ogbeh have done it in less than two years. As for the cocoa and the cocoa committee, just wait for one or two years, you will see the result. The road road is rough, the struggle is tough, the people are suffering, but with a president that is determined and a people that is relentless, we shall get there.

I am lying on my bed, waiting impatiently for them. The fools that have been eating Buhari inspired local rice, the idiots that Buhari has commenced action to build 2nd Niger bridge for which their son could not for 6 years, instead their son shared the money between his wife the cantankerous sheppopo and the frog eye self induced cancer patient Diezani.

That you my brethren for the good wishes. Nigeria is very sick due to the looting activities of the ineffectual buffoon, his kleptomaniac wife and their looting gang. But, thank God, the physician called Buhari is treating Nigeria in the emergency unit, just continue to wish Nigeria well, and also do your part as a good citizen.

Don't know how this is going to be achieved. I've been to Ikire in Osun state & seen how they load trucks of cocoa to Lagos everyday & I believe other places like Ikirun & co does in Osun alone, same with other states. The problem is the quality of this products.......most of them are rejected because of moistness & most farmers or merchants deliberately had dirt's & stones so the bags can weigh & transport to, police disturbs the trucks & collect 'roger' too. If the government can do something to curb these problems & sanction anyone who does & make the cocoa price stable, it would help a lot.

I know this cause my dad is a cocoa merchant & those are some of the problems they face
I'd advise u channel these complaints/challenges to d minister thru Fb, twitter etc u can even create a thread on nl, on d challenges faced by cocoa farmers

i think these are secondary problem, the main issue is the chemical residues in the final product which is measure in ppm sometime ppb (in Europe and America) hardly you will see a farmer that doesn't apply chemical whether directly (as in case of fertilizer) or indirectly (as insecticide or herbicide). these are the major problems I think

I support the plan of the federal government If only the growth in cocoa production will bring about true federalism in Nigeria

Over dependence on the oil resources of the Niger delta has not helped Nigeria as a nation.

First of all, exporters of the commodity has to be highly encouraged. More than 40% of cocoa leaving the shores of this country are leaving as 'ghost' unrecorded; they are being smuggled out because of the wide margin between the official and the black market rates. How easy is it to export cocoa out of the country as we speak? What registrations and levies are standing in the way? Take care of all those before seeing the farmers!

You dont need to smuggle cocoa out. The buyers come to Nigeria with millions of dollars which they change in the black market, so no need for smuggling of produce but the middle men can under declare at grading offices to avoid grading charges which is per tonne. I believe no charge at cuistoms.
