I agree with yiy somewhat but I think we should go further and localize the police force. As far as I am concerned local govts should have there own police force with the people electing the police commissioner and the judges.
State police should be much smaller and should be for highway patrols and for maybe overseeing the local police.

Garuba Umar, the officer who was formerly in Charge of the Inspector-General of Police monitoring unit, has been appointed as the new commissioner of police in Lagos State. Umar, who once served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ikoyi and as Mobile Police Unit 19 Commander, in Port Harcourt, replaces Fatai Owoseni, who has been posted to the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in Jos....


Umar's posting to Lagos State comes four days after his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).

Exactly @ davidif . I'm sure the crime rate will drastically reduce and the corruption level in the force will be at its minimum. Cause as a local force of your birth town, you wouldn't wanna extort your friends and families,even if you will,it wouldn't be like Okoro coming down to the west to extort the westerners or Abiodun going to the north to do same.
