Tinfoil:
They are only building it for 30km of the 700km long border which makes it useless
the 30km stretch was hastened to protect mandera whose town center is just few hundred meters from the border... this happened after an attack at a rental house......... that stretch was thus given a priority first ...but this does not mean it will be the only constrution.... there are already orders for ground raders, floating blimps....which are to be intergrated with the fence cause right now its just a fence,

http://www.nation.co.ke/counties/mandera/Kenya-Somalia-border-fence/1183298-3472166-hyn3f6z/
Speaking while inspecting the ongoing works on Thursday, Maj-Gen K.T. Chepkuto from the KDF Engineering Department said a stretch of 30 kilometres will be completed in the next four months.
“We will do the first 30 kilometres within the stipulated time since people are energised,” he said.
-----)
i cant claim to have timeline but the plan is to eventually have control over the whole stretch... but one thing is for sure, the more alshabaab pose a direct threat to kenya by crossing to attack, the faster the fence will be built

I honestly didn't know the Senegalese had one meaningful military... It's impressive.

.... But it's kinda shameful for the Gambian troops to welcome foreign soldiers in such a manner, I personally have so much pride (mixed with patriotism) I wouldn't do it at all.

There's no point in 2000 or so Gambians soldiers standing up the Senegalese, it'll be a bloodbath and for what ? To show loyalty to a 22 years dictatorship ? Makes no sense

I wouldn't fight either, however I wouldn't do push-ups before them. In fact I'll rather go home and wonder where my next paycheck would come from.

Senegalese units of ECOMIG in play
I'm highly impressed with the senegalese
And senegal played a deft hand especially with respect to having a useful counterpart to help bring the casamance situation to an end.

Senegalese and Gambians are one and the same people. No difference, the same ethnic group, the same language, the same culture, also the same religion. Infact, for 7 years in the 80's, Senegal and Gambia were one country, Senegambia. The push-ups was just a sign of respect and loyalty to the incoming President, not the Senegalese.

The Senegalese are not also a hostile force, Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana only entered the country when the Gambian President gave them the green light to do so.

I don't see any problems, nothing shameful.

What we have in Senegal and Gambia is simply a result of Colonialism, same as the rest of Africa. The British go to Senegal late, when they arrived, the French had laid claim to virtually all Senegal, so the little land left was what Britain claimed as their territory.

They have a well disciplined force, i never knew their military, Army, was this impressive. They can make a dependable partner in the fight against terror in the Sahel region.

Nice, are these also Senegalese?
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by rugged7(m):
I'm not so sure. If i had to hazard a guess i would say Nigerians based on the vehicle and combat fatigues.
France24 did also mention Nigerian troops were providing close protection and perimeter security in addition to alpha jet overwatch
I guess their weapons will be the greatest indicator.
Can anyone make out what weapons the ECOMIG close protection are holdinghuh

It's an M-4 or at-least an AR-type carbine. We don't use any AR based rifles in Nigeria. That's why i don't think they are Nigerians.

BBC in their reporting stated that heavily armed Nigerian and Senegalese troops led the protection for the newly elected President as he landed in The Gambia.
It is to be expected that Nigerian and Senegalese in the coming days will provide the President's security.

Our very first photo of a Nigerian soldier ,providing close protection. Although he's backing the camera, but notice his special forces patch on the right shoulder.

Also the bullet proof vest is a DICON jungle Cammo vest.
