The OP gave no instance of greed in his story. A businessman has no sympathy. Business thrives when friends and family pay.

Then you have to agree that Nigeria is an instrument of oppression which people like Ojukwu were right to fight.

If Britain that created Nigerian can use Referendum twice in the last 3 years, one for Scotland to vote on independence and the other to vote on the EU, then who is Nigeria, a mere colonial creation to deny people referendum?

GREED AND THE IGBO MAN: The Prospect of Life in an Independent Biafra.

In September 2010, I began my first journey into the Eastlands. I was happy for exploring a part of Nigeria but was afraid too for venturing into the "lions den". Yes! Lions den, because that was Onitsha especially counting years backward. The tick forest, green grass and fresh air was just WOW as we descended the slope of 9th Mile. Then I saw pretty fair ladies/girls rushing to our bus shouting gala gala, lacasera, lacasera, hmmm...I thought: these beautiful girls are hawking? Where I come from they are " big girls" looking for the next aristo. I remember telling a co commuter that "I love the business prowess of the Igbo nation". But....
As we drive into Onitsha around 8pm, everywhere looked like a war zone, everyone was in a haste, I became more inquisitive, and they said there is a curfew by 8pm because of rampant crimes ranging from killings, robbery, kidnappings etc: then my fear increased to 70%.

Now here is the main reason for this long epistle:
The Igbo man is naturally hardworking, business oriented, independent, intelligent, diplomatic there by making the Igbo Nation economically viable. But...
My experience that night while boarding a bus from Opi Iweka to Madonna(Okija) confirmed the stereotype that the Igbo man is Greedy, Exploitative, Over-Ambitious, Naive and can go any length to make money irrespective of humanity or moral standard. Some even said " The Igbo man is the number one enemy of his brother". Now this was what happened that night:
There came two old women begging the driver to accept their less transport fees, but the he refused. They rushed to the other bus, same fate. They rushed to another again, same fate. They now returned to the first bus and started pleading earnestly. To my surprise the conductors threw their bags out and maltreated these women. Nobody could bail them out. An act that is rampant and normal UP-NORTH: home of hospitality.
I recalled this incidence because of what I just read online about the current exploitation of Igbo commuters by Igbo transport companies. Onitsha to Lagos 13,000-15000. People had to donates for one particular man to pay for his four children (13k each) after he cried before the manager who refused to heed to his tears. So I begin to wonder how an independent BIAFRA will fare. One Igbo guy said "Biafra will be a hell for the poor...they will roast us with high prices of everything". As hard as it is, I think he is right.
Life is expensive in the East mostly because of " Igbotic Greed". There is high distrust among the Igbo Nation, and until they fight that, my lovely BIAFRA will forever be a mirage. #Peace #GiveusBiafraorwedie #Reality

Disclaimer: Not all Igbos are greedy and not all greedy persons are Igbos!
Things are costly in east because there is no federal government presence there.

How do the people there get money with salary, government projects, etc.

People are greedy because they cannot tell when and where the next meal will come from.

When your tomorrow is secured you can throw around more help than is necessary.

we will ensure every flattinoe return to that their erosion ridden enclave, without a Pin, maybe after like 100 years, we can start considering their application for a business Visa....under strict DSS surveillance...

these myopic, impish, hate-filled, bigoted, covetous and greedy folks came calling on our doors, chorusing "One Nigeria" like a broken record

Stop listening to Yoruba propaganda you have listend to all your life. The Igbos had already gone and were enjoying there new found freedom when you Nigerians suddenly started shouting 'Lord Lugard made us all one Nigeria' and came down to East to start fighting and killed 3 million people. You Nigerians came to fight people who had already gone their way. Nna, you guys made Lord Lugard proud, you guys killed even more people him to maintain 'one Nigeria'. Since this 'one Nigeria' is capable killing millions, its far better us Igbos stay away from it because such a thing has no future

Freedom to control ones destiny. Is it by force to be a Nigerian? That name is something Lugard brought with him to West Africa and imposed on us all. Because of that name, my fellow Igbos lost over 3 million people.

If it is you, would you like to be part of an organisation that might kill over 3 million of your people tomorow? Of course not, only a crazy person will want that.

So it is better for us to go our way, have bad name and use visa to travel than be part of something than can kill millions of us such as Nigeria.
And during the war your people did not kill too abi. It's a shame but I must say that my conclusion from observing the exchanges here on nairaland is that ibos antagonise the yorubas more, Ibos have an irrational hatred abi envy of the yorubas, Ibos are more petulant and petty, Ibos are more tribalistic and narrow-minded than any other ethnic group here. It's a shame. I am deeply disappointed in you Ibo Nairalanders. By the way I am not yoruba.

I like your story, you talked about greed in Igbo land.Surprisingly, Igbos love themselves more than your tribe, how? In the whole Nigeria, it is the Igbos who will help his Igbo brother through business without any legal agreement and will settle him after many years as agreed.

No tribe, has given block vote of 95% except the Igbos, to any president, yet you couldn't buy our votes like what happened in the West and North.

Stereotyping us as greed is stupid, why do you want us in Nigeria by force even when we don't want your union if not selfishness.

Why is it that every time you pen your opinion here, it's always lies that flows effortlessly from you? it's gotta be genetic.

Were ibos fighting for their own nation before independence or were they agitating for their own nation when their homeboy, Ironsi became HOS (through the back-door) of nigeria in January 1966 after their fellow ibo boys had murdered leaders of other regions in cold blood?

Before we got independence, you covetous folks were all for One nigeria, even going as far as prophesying how your god will enable you to dominate the rest of us in the new nation. When the Ijaws wanted to secede, you guys quashed their dreams preferring to remain in the lugardian contraption but the moment you lost out in the bid to be top dog, you suddenly remembered you have nothing in common with the rest of us and hence wanted out.
