The 31-year-old defender has been signed to reinforce Les blancs’ defence till the end of the season

Nigeria's Taye Taiwo has joined Switzerland’s FC Lausanne-Sport from HJK Helsinki.

Despite an impressive season with the Finnish side last term, the left-footed defender took his decision to move. There, he would be hoping to help Fabio Celestini’s men strengthen their backline.

Les Blanc announced his arrival on their website after the former Queens Park Rangers man passed his medical.

Enyeama brilliant in away victory over Olympique Lyonnais

It was a pleasant weekend for former Super Eagles safehand and Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama as Lille earned vital away win at the expense of homers Olympique Lyonnais.

Lille who occupy the 13th position on the log shocked their hosts in the 38th minutes of the match thanks to Algerian import Yassine Benzia. The visitors doubled lead in the 80th minute when Benzia again converted a penalty.

Interestingly Benzia who became the tormentor in chief was Olympique Lyonnais youth academy graduate.

The hosts however converted their own penalty six minutes later all efforts to earn eqauliser afterwards proved abortive. A similar visit late last year saw Lille lose 2-0 With January signing Memphis Depay making his first start for OL, the hosts were optimistic of maintaining their hold on fourth place, particularly as Lille arrived having drawn their previous three games and having won just one of their last ten away matches in the top flight.

The new addition from Manchester United almost brokethe deadlock when he smashed a shot off the bar (9′) before winning a free-kick Mathieu Valbuena sent narrowly over (14′) as OL seemed to be laying the platform for a fourth successive home win.

That was without counting on Benzia. The LOSC forward, who made his Ligue 1 debut in the colours of OL aged just 17 during the 2012/13 season, first provided Eric Bauthéac with a chance he should not have missed (27′) before taking matters into his own hands.

Younousse Sankharé picked out the run of his team-mate, and Benzia’s low shot took a ricochet off Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa en route to goal, wrong-footing Anthony Lopes to open the scoring (38′).

It was Benzia’s first league strike in 24 shots this season, and the first time he had hit the back of the net since 10 January last year.

Alexandre Lacazette scored his 18th of the season, and his seventh strike in a red-hot streak over five league games, from the penalty spot after he had been fouled by Adama Soumaoro (86′), but could not prevent OL suffering a damaging defeat in their pursuit of a top-three finish.

Watford accepts Chinese club’s £20m offer for Ighalo

Super Eagles’ striker, Odion Ighalo, is set to become Nigeria’s latest export to the Chinese Super league if he accepts the offer to join Chngchun Yatai. The club yesterday agreed a £20 million deal with Watford for the striker.

However, according to mirror.co.uk, West Brom could hijack the deal with a last-minute bid – but only if Baggies manager Tony Pulis matches the price agreedwith Chongchun.

Pulis, who sold Saido Berahino to Stoke two weeks ago, pulled out of the running for Ighalo after claiming Watford wanted too much for him, but the Hornets would not be surprised if Albion rejoined the auction at the 11th hour.

Ighalo has gone from top scorer at Vicarage Road, andmagician behind the ‘Iggy chop’ party trick – which left countless defenders on their backsides – to a spare part in danger of missing out on a Premier League squad number.

And Watford head coach, Walter Mazzarri, admitted Ighalo’s departure was imminent last night, saying: “Every morning I ask the club what the situation is, andnegotiations are now at an advanced stage, so it should only be a matter of a couple of days.”

Ighalo was top scorer across all four divisions in the calendar year 2015, when his 30 goals fired the Hornets to promotion and Premier League safety, in all but name, by Christmas.

Even when the goals dried up for him in the second half of last season, Shanghai SIPD made a mind-blowing £37.5m bid for Ighalo last summer – which the player rejected.

His market value plummeted as he finished 2016 with just six goals in all competitions, and Watford’s top brass agree a fresh start is the best solution for all parties.

Another Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua, were exploring the possibility of pairing Ighalo with Carlos Tevez, the world’s highest-paid player on £600,000-a-week.
But they would not meet Watford’s £27m asking price for a player their rivals SIPD had valued £10m higher only six months ago.

Ighalo appeared to be waving goodbye to travelling fans after the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth 17 days ago and was left out of the squad altogether for the embarrassing FA Cup defeat at Millwall on Sunday.

And after the arrivals of on-loan AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang – whose move is scheduled to become a permanent £14m transfer in the summer – and Mauro Zarate last week, Ighalo was sinking further down the pecking order than a mineshaft.

With £12.6m Isaac Success back in full training and skipper Troy Deeney among the crown jewels, Ighalo was faced with becoming fifth-choice striker. Furthermore, he was in danger of being excluded from Watford’s upgraded 25-man Premier League squad after the transfer window shuts because of the surfeit of foreign players on the books at Vicarage Road.

It's a possibilty..... smiley

But apart from Good disciplined nutrition, exercises is key to his kind of body. People underrate the value and wonders of exercises.

EL-hadary is super fit.... At 45, that's remarkable... He would need no walking stick at 80 if he keeps this up. And You too Sir, can be like this... smiley coz I have a hunch that you also wanna look fit and good at anytime.... wink It's a fantastic goal to pursue but you must be ready for the discipline and sacrifice that goes with it.... wink
Also very importantly a good coach that knows how to manage players nearing retirement

I am watching with great interest the interest around the very sensible Dembele at Celtic. I have watched this boy for about 4 years and when he was 16 I concluded he was the best 16 year old striker I had ever seen. It didnt change from at 18 or at 21 he just got better.

He left the championship with Fulham and chose in a sense lowly Celtic. He knew even as a youngster he would be the focal point of thier attack and would be able to develop further. Celtic has been a stepping stone to greater things for many players.

The talk of his transfer fee is moving towards £40 million plus.

Not too long ago I compared him to Kelechi and explained he was considerably ahead of him as a striker. Although Chelsea are in the forefront for him I doubt if he will go doesn't want to be a bench warmer and restrict his development.

“But you know, very well, that only the victory in 1984 was clean. The second, in 1998, we were cheated. Roger tricked the referee (Idrissa Saar of Mauritania) into giving him a fake penalty. And the clean goal of Henry Nwosu was disallowed,” I told him.

I think the author meant 1988.

What I remember most about that 1984 lose to Cameroun was the popular post-match comments that "Nigeria did all the playing while Cameroun did all the scoring". That was the trash the Nigerian commentators and Nigerian press including our analysts consoled themselves with. The fans also were not left out of that one. Na who "did all the playing" epp? I think I only joined in watching the game after Muda Lawal opened scoring for Nigeria. That shout of 'gooaaalll' all over the neighborhood and the shouts of "Muda Lawallll!!!" here and there. That I think was the only game I managed to watch, and probably even slept off before the game ended grin cos I only remember when Cameroun equalized how the game take be 3-1 me I no remember grin

Several years after I understood that going into that game, Nigeria were the overwhelming favorites. I think we underrated the Cameroonians. More so that as we scored first, we thought it was going to be like a stroll in the park.

That was the beginning of the Cameroonian golden generation that won the AFCON again in 1988 and got to the 1990 WC Quarter finals, beating the star studded Argentine team in the opening game of that WC.

As for the Maroc '88 defeat. O that game is still fresh in my memory. I even have a complete 90mins video of it courtesy of youtube. A very drab and cagey game. The semis were more explosive. Recently, I replayed that Henry Nwosu's goal and I was just shouting. Very clean goal. I called a younger pal who was born same year that AFCON was played (so he was seeing it and hearing about that incident for the first time) to analyse it and he shouted 'Day light robbery'.

I also re-played the penalty to him. He questioned why the then NFA and Nigerian government never petitioned CAF and that referee.
So na so e be o.
That was the first AFCON I watched from A-Z. We did not qualify for the 1986 edition.

Saha Thrilled with Nigeria’s Talents

Former France international Louis Saha has
praised Nigeria for its abundant pool of talented
footballers. The former Man United and Everton
man played alongside a few Nigerians as well as
against them, and he insists the quality of players from the West African nation is not in doubt globally.

In a chat with footballlive.ng Saha stated that the immense potential of a solid Nigerian team was capable of some major upset on the world stage, and it’s reaching such potentials that most football observers anticipate.

Mikel Rated Man Of The Match Again In Portugal

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-85.jpg

On loan FC Porto midfielder Mikel Agu has once
again won the man of the match award for his
impressive display in yesterday’s game against
Benfica.

Agu ran the show for Vitoria de Setubal propelling them to a 1-0 win over the league leaders, and in the process picked up the man of the match award.

It is the third time that the 24 year old has won
the accolade of the best player after a game in
Portugal, a testament of how well he has
improved after putting aside the injury troubles
that has slowed him down in the past.

Once rated as a top prospect at FC Porto, he lost a shot at the first team after pulling off injured in a pre season game with the first team in 2014.

Since then he has been frozen out of the first
team set up, and a loan move to Club Brugge
didn’t quite go as plan as he he struggled to play games for the team who won the championship.

Despite his struggles, a sign of how well FC Porto rate Agu can best be illustrated by their push for him to sign a new deal, which he did before joining Vitoria de Setubal where he has been delivering on the promises that made Porto snap him up in 2012.

HIBERNIAN WANT FROZEN-OUT NIGERIA
DEFENDER EFE AMBROSE ON LOAN

https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2017/01/efe_ambrose_celtic_solo_new_4.jpg
Efe Ambrose
Scottish Championship club Hibernian have
tabled a late loan bid for Nigeria defender Efe
Ambrose, who has fallen out of favour at
champions Celtic.

The Express claimed that Hibs boss Neil Lennon
has made an offer to bring in the experienced
Ambrose.

Hibernian are seeking a return to the top flight in Scotland.

They lead the Scottish Championship table with
48 points after 22 matches, eight points clear of
closest rivals Dundee United.

The Nigeria defender joined Celtic from Israeli
team FC Ashdod for the 2012/13 season and has won several major honours with the Glasgow club.

However, this season he failed to impress new
boss Brendan Rogers after some mistake-filled
displays in pre-season.

The 28-year Ambrose has yet to play a league
game for Celtic this season under Rogers.
The previous season, he had made 21
appearances in the league.

FC Porto loanee Mikel Agu who was voted the man of the match in Vitoria Setubal 1-0 win over league leaders Benfica was reportedly watched by scouts of Manchester United during the game.

The Vitoria de Setubal man was for the third time this season voted man of the match for his
performances in the middle, as he won
possession, broke up play and set up attack with ease for his side.

His performances didn’t go unnoticed as scouts
from Manchester United, Genoa, Cologne and
Celta Vigo were all in attendance during the
game.

Also he has been roundly tipped to be involved
with the senior Nigeria national team in their next friendly game in March owing to his performances for Vitoria de Setubal.

The 24 year old also confirmed his desire to see
his performances rewarded with a national team
call up during an interview picked up by
Owngoalnigeria.com online editor.

Deportivo La-Coruna Goalkepper Uzoho Targets Super Eagles Call Up

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-100.jpg

Fast rising Deportivo La Coruna shot stopper Francis Odinaka Uzoho says he is targeting a call up to the Super Eagles in the nearest future.

Uzoho who recently joined the La-Liga side has
wasted no time in making the step up to the first team from the B team where he was expected to spend most of his time following his signing.

He has trained severally with the first team, and his rise could see him make at least the match day squad before the end of the season in Spain, and the former U-17 shot stopper is also eyeing a call up to the Super Eagles this year.

”Progress is a slow process. I believe in one step at a time so I'm first of all focused on making progress at Deportivo La Coruna, which will could help me realise my dream of playing for Nigeria”, Uzoho told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”Presently there are no much young Nigerian
goalkeepers in Europe, so am hopeful that my
time will come if I do well for Deportivo La
Coruna”.

U are on point, well i was opportuned to watch d 1984 final live and i want to state it that Cameroon were full of experience with players like Milla,Thomas Nkono but Nigeria coached by Onigbinde and captained by very young Keshi,d team was full of young players except Muda Lawal who was 32,though Nigeria had a great semi final against Egypt that led to penalty shootout, this match gave rise to Peter Rufai, though injured and Patrick Okala was in goal against Cameroon in d final.

The euphoria of semi final victory really affected d team in d final, but i want to state that we lost to a superior Cameroonian side.Truly 1984 gave birth to d golden generation of Cameroon that later shook d world in 1990 by beating Argentina 1 nil in d opening game.

Well maroc 88,prior to d final,Nigeria and Cameroon played goalless draw during group stage and need to meet again in d final, but d final was marred by terrible officiating and a lots need to questioned CAF integrity coz it was obvious Cameroon was designed to lift d trophy coz Nwosu goal was just too good but d referee ruled it offside and also Milla contact with Eboigbe that resulted to d penalty was a cleared diving from Milla.

Coruna”.

U are on point, well i was opportuned to watch d 1984 final live and i want to state it that Cameroon were full of experience with players like Milla,Thomas Nkono but Nigeria coached by Onigbinde and captained by very young Keshi,d team was full of young players except Muda Lawal who was 32,though Nigeria had a great semi final against Ivory coast that led to penalty shootout, this match gave rise to Peter Rufai, though injured and Patrick Okala was in goal against Cameroon in d final.

Thanks for the deep insightful post. Very educative, eye-opening and interesting. Shows how long we have come and I hope the Labour of our heroes shall never be in Vain.

Thanks.

Cameroun and Egypt are the most tactically disciplined sides in this championship.
These guys stay true to their strategy, hardly out of shape and very hard to beat.
These attributes are the evidence of a well coached team.

In the game against Senegal, if you watched closely you would have noticed they had the clearer chances and merely reduced Senegal to half chances. Football is not all about fancy footwork and passing. You have to respect other people's way of playing the game.

If watched their game throughout this tournament, you will appreciate how tactically aware the Cameroonians are.

Nigerians should be a little bit more circumspect and Liberal when analysing football. I noticed a lot of people don't just fancy this Cameroonians because we have them to deal with in the WCQ.
Thankfully Gernot Rohr have a different view from Nigerians especially those on the cyberspace.
Cameroon has only reaped the benefit of participating in a tournament which has brought some form of cohesion into the team. If Nigeria was in this present afcon, our team would have improved just like Cameroon.

The match is in August so it will be down to match fitness and form of players for both national teams. But let's remember, its the cameroon keeper that has been saving their asses, in their third group match against Gabon, if not the ball hitting the bar and the keeper's save from the rebound, Cameroon would have exited this tournament at the first stage.

Now till August is still a long time. Players form and fitness at that time is what matters most. Besides, there are AFCON qualifiers in June and Cameroun will not be part of it as they are hosts.

Actually Cameroun will still be playing qualifiers as hosts. They are in Group B alongside Morocco, Malawi, Comoros/Mauritius. The idea is to ensure that host teams have the same opportunities as others in "tuning" their teams even though they aleady have automatic qualification. Add to that the possibility that they will play in FIFA confederations cup in June, if they win the AFCON

That singular fact that they have already qualified would affect their level of seriousness in the qualifiers. Talking about playing in Confederations, they have not even won the AFCON yet.

That aside, remember Nigeria's case in 2014 when we took part in the 2014 WC playing up to the second round, but we played against Congo PR in our first 2015 AFCON qualifiers game, in that same 2014 and we lost at home. That is why I say what matters most is the form of both teams at that time when the double header would be played.

Is the goalkeeper not a member of the team? The Gabonese were playing a win or burst game, cheered by thousands of home fans. Of course you will expect to see relentless pressure by the hosts.
Not many teams will have the temperament and mettle to manage such a game.

A lilly livered team will break under such intense pressure.

You should watch the game tactically and stop analysing like a regular spectator.

Enyimba striker Ezekiel Bassey has secured a loan move to the B-team of FC Barcelona for the rest of the season, according to the Spanish club.

The deal has a clause of an outright purchase of two years for the 20-year-old forward who is
expected to undergo medical tests in Barcelona
later on Tuesday.

Financial terms of the deal completed on deadline day remain undisclosed.

The Spanish giants announced on Tuesday that
they had "reached an agreement" with seven-
time Nigerian champions for the services of the
young forward to join their B-team for the rest of the season.

"FC Barcelona and Enyimba Football Club have
reached an agreement for the transfer until the
end of season of the player Ezekiel Joseph Bassey for Barça B.

"The agreement includes a purchase option for
two more seasons. The 20-year-old Nigerian
striker will undergo medical examination in the
next few hours," Barca announced on their
website on Tuesday.

Bassey, who can play as a forward or as a wide
man, was one of 23 players in the Nigeria
Professional Football League (NPFL) All-Star team that went for a week-long tour in Spain following the partnership between the League
Management Company (LMC) and the Spanish La Liga.

The former Akwa United man has not featured in this season's NPFL, apparently tidying up the
move to Barca.

However, if Bassey impresses at La Masia, he
could earn himself a graduation to the senior
team, joining the likes of Emmanuel Amuneke
and Gbenga Okunowo as the Nigerians to play for the Catalan side at senior level.

Uhmmm... I really think you gotta give Cameroun huge credits here. Putting their progress so far at this Afcon on just Ondoa's heroics is not doing justice to the observation of "tactical" discipline that team have shown.

Sir Goldfish80 did blow the whistle on this Camerounian team few weeks ago and so far he's been proven right.

Even when I saw the quarters pairings of Senegal vs Cameroun, I was just laughing because I knew history favored Cameroun prior to that fixture. I did say Senegal were favorites but I ended by saying History favors Cameroun.

The Indomitable lions have not been fantastic or spectacular in anyway... But they always seem to just know what to do to see out a game and get the results they want. I did mention this when Sir LazyErudite correctly predicted that the senegal-cameroun game will end on penalties with Cameroun winning.

Look, this camerounian team may lack goals and flair but they got grit, guts, heart and a discipline to keep their tactical shape throughout a game's duration. That alone is fearsome I have to admit. Tactical discipline wins you the toughest games some times and so far, Cameroun and Egypt has that at this Afcon. I don't know who will take the trophy eventually but you gotta admit that Cameroun"s tactical discipline have brought them this far and not just Ondoa's heroics or mere luck.

In August, that will be in another time scale, hopefully Our Super Eagles will be ready for the double-headed big battles.
