Yoruba Leaders Meet In Akure, Make Case For Restructuring by ukomko: 5:17am On Feb 01, 2017
Eminent personalities and leaders of thought in Yoruba nation, yesterday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure total restructuring of the country.

The Yoruba leaders, who converged on Akure, Ondo State capital, met at the residence of Afenifere leader, Chief Rueben Fasoranti.

They called for the unity of the Yoruba people, and stressed the need for the race, in different political parties, to shun their differences and unite for the overall development of the race.

The leaders also called the need for the restructuring of the country. “President Buhari should take the glory of restructuring Nigeria. It will be a glory for him and he will forever be remembered if the country is restructured during his time.”

The meeting, which was at the instance of Afenifere, the pan Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, also created enabling environment for Yoruba leaders in different political parties, including All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) to interact together.

Those at the meeting included the convener, Chief Fasoranti, former secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, former deputy governor of Lagos State, Mrs Kofoworola Bucknor Akerele and Chief Ayo Adebanjo.

Also at the meeting were the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, former deputy governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Olabode George, former deputy governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Kaka and former national chairman of the Alliance for Democracy, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa.

Others at the meeting were Secretary General of Afenifere, Chief Sehinde Arogbofa, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, Chief Korede Duyile, Prof. Akin Onigbinde, Chief Tola Mobolarin, Mr. Tayo Akopo, Mr. Charles Adeyinka, Senator Omololu Meroyi and the Chief of Staff to Ondo State Governor, Dr. Kola Ademujimi.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Afenifere spokesperson, Odymakin said the meeting was organised in the interest of the Yoruba nation, adding that the essence was to ensure unity among the Yoruba people regardless of their political affiliation.

Odumakin said Yoruba leaders examined the state of insecurity in the country and called for an urgent stop to killings in all parts of the country.

Besides, the Yoruba leaders warned Fulani herdsmen against invasion of any part of the Yoruba nation, even as they called for restriction of cattle owned by Fulani, in all the communities and villages in Yorubaland.

They condemned absence of a substantial Chief Justice of Nigeria, insisting that ‘the 1999 Constitution allows a person to act as CJN for just three months.”

I really think Yorubas should be more aggressive just like the Igbos in confronting this northern domination .

History has shown that we cannot achieve anything tangible voting and hoping for something miraculous.

The north has always opposed anything that will ensure speedy progress in Nigeria just because of their fear for break up.

Time to confront them with two options is here. Either restructure or break up.
Let me also explain further. Have u ever imagined what it will look like, having having Yorubas pour out in protest to demand for Oduduwa Republic just at the time Igbos are demanding for Biafra republic?
I bet u, the north will call for a round table discussion. Their best bargain will be restructuring. That is what I mean by more aggressive.

It is high time we call a spade a spade; Nigeria is just too far behind where we are supposed to be. Restructuring is the deal for a better governance. I wonder why the Yorubas just of a sudden stopped preaching what they stand for. Awolowo was the vision carrier of restructioning along side with free education, but we no longer see the legacy, it's in decadance. Even education is becoming worse most in south west. Imagine an institution going on a strike for over 8months. Igbo's are clamoring for breakup, Yoruba's too should shout for restructuring and let's see what the Hausa's will stand for: "nothing". We need to break and destroy their power tussle and born to rule mentality. Nigeria shall rise again...

Yorubas will not confront any northern domination, the era of Yorubas carrying other people matter for head like gala don pass.
Let those who are aggrieved fight their battles.
We remember useless talk like, this Fawehinmi man wahala too much, Yoruba cannot hold Nigeria hostage, Nigeria can move on without Yoruba and all kinds of bull crap.
Anybody claiming to be fighting for anything on behalf of Yoruba at this moment is on his own, probably looking for recognition but definitely not on our behalf.

Bros, you are being economical with the truth as regards the boldened

Is it the same Igbos that are joining APC on daily basis or those ones in PDP under Makarfi or Ali-Modu Sherrif?

If Igbos are really against northern domination, I don't think the SE should caucus of the House of Reps should have supported a Dogara over a co-southerner like Femi Gbajabiamiala

Moreso, I don't think Ekweremadu should be friends with Bukola Saraki at all.

Is it not convenient that Mr. Restructuring from NADECO days, Tinubu, no longer cares if Nigeria is restructured or not. Simply because he is at the center doing "I chop. U chop."

For those who are going to attack me for singling out Tinubu. My response is that he has been an advocate of it, and if he is a true progressive as he claims to be, he wouldn't stop talking about restructuring when he even used it as part of previous ACN campaigns.

After all, he don get all the money and relevance when anybody in his shoes fit get. So why not pursue restructuring to a final end and etch his name in the annals of history as a visionary.

Or will he wait until he is in the opposition to resurrect his talk for restructuring. We know if he continues his support for restructuring now that APC is in power, that's a big move.

Restructuring must stop being a darling of the opposition. Only remembered when people are looking to garner votes and unseat the ruling party.

The Yorubas have been the only ones in this country constantly calling for federalism and restructuring.
The only progressives.

Hmmm, I learnt Afenifere gave a 9 - day ultimatum to the Presidency if Onnoghen isn't confirmed. I wonder what it's capable of doing after the 9 days expire

Bros you are not getting it if you are expecting those that are currently benefiting or serving in the present government to push for restructuring you will wait till Jesus comes, What should be done is for the masses to queue behind any group that are genuinely calling for restructuring of Nigeria because the present structure has retard our collective growth and development.
Nigeria has been running around in circles and even if there is change in government without restructuring we may not achieve tangible development.
The country needs to be overhaul and we need a new constitution.
