STUPID MAN

Through a darkness like the bottom of hell, I could hear the voices of the other students calling for their mothers. And at the base of the bridge, inside a big cistern that had been dug out there, was a mother weeping, holding above her head a naked baby that was burned red all over its body.

And another mother was crying and sobbing as she gave her burned breast to her baby. In the cistern the students stood with only their heads above the water, and their two hands, which they clasped as they imploringly cried and screamed, calling for their parents.

But every single person who passed was wounded, all of them, and there was no one, there was no one to turn to for help. And the singed hair on the heads of the people was frizzled and whitish and covered with dust. They did not appear to be human, not creatures of this world.
Hiroshima nuclear bomb survivor

Oh my God, what have we done?
Exclamation of the pilot who dropped the Hiroshima bomb

The face of the world turned bright white, the pilot looked on with horror and fear as the little uncontained sun spread like waves of water. The intelligent man has become too stupid after all.

Throughout the course of our evolution when our ancestors conquered the tree-less plains and began to develop the basis of our intelligence, the intelligence of man has been his greatest tool, the number one tool for survival and ecological domination.

Then we built nuclear bombs and our intelligence became the greatest threat to our survival.

In our booming scientific breakthroughs and intellectual growth, it almost certainly seems like our advancement walks hand in hand with our doom.

Man is not a perfect model, he is vulnerable, he is young and timid but there is a certain depth in his short coming. he’s like a child playing with a toy with sharp ends with no adult supervision, exploring and experiencing every inch of his interesting curious toy almost certainly oblivious though seem more so willfully blinded to the dangers lurking within the edges of this beautiful toy.

We are very young species who but recently joined the cosmic arena, the only species on planet earth that has taken our curiosity of our world right above the heaven, our intelligence becoming ever intricate and our burden becoming great since the more we know, the more we learn the more that needs to be learned and the more we develop the more we become a danger to ourselves.

There have been very many great wars fought in human history, man will readily fight for something as trivial as a woman’s attention, countless has met their doom at the edge of the sword because some greedy ruler wants a bag full of soil, a remote patch of land lost within the vastness of the oceans.

From the Great Greek blind Poet Homer, Agamemnon had readily charged every Greek soldier to battle just for the king of Sparta to have his price – Helen.

The conquest of the Ming Dynasty by the Qing dynasty etched in the antiquity of great China saw as many as 25million fatalities, world war one saw as many as 20 million.

Then just when things seem cannot get any worse came the greatest fight in history, a staggering fatality toll of up to 40million, the Second World War – yes man has been that careless, has been that thoughtless, has been that aggressive and territorial and yes has been that stupid.

There are no species on earth that can match up to man in the brutality of his conflict, man towers above every species in intelligence and in ferocity that you cannot help but wonder if we are really that intelligent after all.

The brain is a complex machine that has seen a certain evolutionary journey, series of modification or additions to be rightly put.
The Brain stem forming the foundation of the neurological structure, it can be found in the most humble species with very simple brain.
But one curious thing is that when a new brain part develops in a much higher organism the older brain is not replaced but rather the new brain forms right around it.

After the brain stem comes the R-complex, an ancient part of the brain we share with the reptilian creatures of this world
It is responsible for aggressiveness, territorial behaviors, rituals – almost certainly seems that this part of our neurological order controls a very shouty part of our behavior, a part that most times controls us and shuts off our dependence on the more soothing and kind Limbic system or the analytical overly intelligent young Cerebral cortex.

The Second World War fanned a major advancement in human technology mostly in our quest to out show the other in our destructive power.
It started with the little simple and overly powerful equation coined by the famous Albert Einstein E=MC^2.

An equation that made the universe look a little simpler, painted a clearer picture of the beautiful chaos that painted very clear pictures that formed an intrinsic part of our cosmic perspective.

We have uncovered the mysteries of why the stars shine, we have discovered the secret of why the sun was so harsh, ever burning and glowed – the secrets the Gods must have talked about in hushed tones.

We have discovered the power of the atom – our cosmic perspective was changed forever.

We have understood a truth of nature that tickled our minds and bothered our imagination; Nature it seems became powerful the more you delved into the smaller bits, the smaller it gets the more power it holds.

It all began with a lingering worry that the Germans were trying to develop a bomb that was dependent on Einstein’s little equation, a weapon that could easily bring the war to an end, civilizations to it’s knees, turn once bustling metropolises into deserted waste land.

The Americans hurriedly joined the race and the Atomic bomb was born nicknamed “little Boy”

We now hold the very glow of the sun in the palms of our hand, the very power that brought us closer to the shores of extinction.
The little boy blast was more than every explosive device used in the Second World War combined.

The war went crazy, the race for the nuclear power turned into a frenzy fever, an ominous thirst for power now we have thousands of atomic bombs armed and ready even at this very moment, devices that dwarf the first atomic bomb used in Hiroshima by a very humongous scale in terms of destructive power.

As a matter of fact the nuclear war heads built and are currently in this planet have the ability to destroy the planet 5 times over, a lingering apocalypse, Armageddon lurking at our door step.

The welcome ray of the sun will be blocked by this effect, the rivers would be red as blood from intense radioactivity, the lands would be barren dry and weak.

And the stars fell from heaven like fig
the Bible

In all this bothering saga, in all this hellish possibilities a certain realization makes it all the more fearful, more heartbreaking and ominous, the threat are not Gods who are angry at us and unleash cups of plagues of reckoning, flying armored Gods in a harvest mission, zombies, vampires or very many other fearful tales we have come up with through our journey.

But rather the very factor to the realization of this threatening Armageddon is man himself.

There is a certain idiocy in the politics of man, the greed and selfishness may be understood but there are certain political decisions that make you question the very sanity of the political class.

There is an international treaty that forbids any form of nuclear power being used in space, Carl Sagan bemoaned this ludicrous treaty.
A show of collective insanity, how is it not Ok to use nuclear power in space where it poses less threat to us but it is ok to have thousands of nuclear bombs all armed and aimed at the earth itself.

I am confounded by the idiocy of this treaty.

If there is one place Nuclear energy is needed it is obviously outside the earth’s stratosphere, nuclear-powered spacecrafts could be used to travel to other worlds more efficiently and faster – it could be a very effective help in man’s cosmic quest.

As Neil Degrasse Tyson once said Imagine a world where nations find the search for life in the universe more interesting than taking life on earth

Just imagine, we may yet find wisdom in our vulnerability.

Great write-up bro. Who says your writings don't take people on exhilarating rides to Golgonooza? You're doing a good job.

Humanity really is a pathetic and extremely STRANGE species. Ah, indeed, we're a sorry lot. Will we remain permanently endarkened, or summon the courage to break out of the darkness we plunged ourselves into, of our own volition? The STUPID MAN had better wise up.

"...despite the astonishing things that humans are capable of doing, we remain unsure of our goals and we seem to be as discontented as ever. We have advanced from canoes to galleys to steamships to space shuttles - but nobody knows where we're going. We are more powerful than ever before, but have very little idea what to do with that power. Worse still, humans seem to be more irresponsible than ever. Self-made gods with only the laws of physics to keep us company, we are accountable to no one. We are consequently wreaking havoc on our fellow animals and on the surrounding ecosystem, seeking little more than our own comfort and amusement, yet never finding satisfaction.

IS THERE ANYTHING MORE DANGEROUS THAN DISSATISFIED AND IRRESPONSIBLE GODS WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY WANT?" - Sapiens - A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Hurari
