So happens that young underage girls forced into early marriage end up divorced before they turn 20 all because their ex-husband wants to make room for another younger girl in their Islamic sanctioned harem. These young divorcees turn to drugs to deal with the scars of emotional and sexual abuse they suffered under their last marriage. Being a divorcee and most likely uneducated with a drug problem, these young girls end up as sex workers in order to eke a living and pay for their drug addiction.

Mass wedding? Why not mass empowerment, mass education, mass sanitation, mass feeding? They make marriage look like a trivial issue

I do hope there won't be mass domestic violence/infidelity/unfaithfulness which may lead to mass lawsuits which may lead to mass divorces which would lead to mass waste of time and resources

Some state governors spent billion to sponsored cannibal and nobody complaint because that is the priority of their state. Some lauder abroad billions given to them as bail to pay their workers,some are owners of big shopping malls in abuja.The payment of workers salary in kano is up to date,the state has two state university, thousands of students are in abroad under sponsorship of the state.This mass weeding is welcome development and the people of the state are OK with it.please ask your State governor about how he is running your state not kano.bigotry is a big from in nigeria

I understand your points, but instead of mass weddings, why not empower the women? Handiwork, skills, those that want to go to school?
If you're going to do any wedding for anyone, that person should have gone through your skills acquisition program, and given some money or materials for start up. I think that's better. If a woman is financially empowered, her children cannot suffer. These women being married off are not youngsters or having new marriages. They're most often divorcees and widows who need food and shelter. If they can fend for themselves and their children, they should not be married off to a man who can barely feed himself and the other wife at home. And truth is the divorce rate is second to non. Nothing stops the men from waking up in 6months time and saying "I divorce you" 3X. And then both go and register again for another round of mass wedding.
This is not a condemnation of their way of life btw, but just looking at the bigger picture. Rather, how can life be made better for ordinary citizens. Public infrastructures may be improving, but can people feed?

I will give you some examples I've seen because I have run HIV clinics in the north before.
A beautiful widow who's husband died 1 year ago (no one knew it ways from HIV) was asked her hand in marriage by a middle class older man who already has 3 wives at home. She says yes, marries the man and infects him with HIV. The man unknowingly transmits the disease to his other wives at home.
The man dies , not from HIV now but from a heart attack. Meanwhile his wives at a home are all infected. They all remarry other gentlemen with wives at home. Please, is the virus not spreading more?
If its about HIV, just educating people to get tested regularly, to practice safe sex is enough.

Such funds should be channeled into expanding development in the state, such that will create more jobs and income for the teeming youths.

This is what we should expect when we vote people into office not because of what they have accomplished in life or what they promise to offer to us but because of blind support for a political party. I am a Kano man but I have never supported this bullshit called mass wedding, even during Kwankwaso's tenure.

The number of married women divorced this month alone far exceeded the number they are planning to marry off. So in essence, what are you trying to solve or achieve? It is a bad and unpopular move by the Governor.
