Their grudges with this guy is not about uniform, but for the man's hard stand against corruption, I believe the committee presumed to be once a juicy committee and the taste of every senator is now becoming detested because this man on corruption is harder than Baba himself. Ask who knows this guy, you will hear who is Hamed Ali.

His reason does not make sense. He should be sacked if he's not ready to comply with Nigeria customs rules. And he's being going about in normal attire since 2015...You can tell this government is a lawless one.

It's not the uniform that does the work. It is the upright displned selfless and patriotic person that does work.

Abacha, Tafa Balogun and Badeh all wore uniforms which did not stop them from selfish criminality.

Trust Nigerians with the love for irrelevant issues.

TheHerald:
Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs, Retired Colonel Hameed Ali has explained reasons why he has not been wearing the official uniform of the Customs since his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
It will be recalled Ali was summoned by the committee to explain the reason for the promotion and the sacking of officers without the approval of a board.

Obinna Ogba, a senator from Ebonyi central, speaking at the session, expressed dissatisfaction on why Ali would carry on the duties of CG in civilian attire since he was appointed in 2015.

Ali in his response explained that he does not wear the uniform because he is a retired army officer.

The Customs boss told the Senate Committee on Customs and Excise Duties on Thursday that military tradition does not permit him to wear paramilitary uniform as a retired Colonel.

His defence prompted a stage walked out by member of the Senate Committee when Senator Dino Melaye gave an instance of ‎retired General of the Nigerian Army, Halidu Hannaniya, who wore the uniform of the Federal Road Safety Corps when he emerged as the Corps Marshal.

But Ali again maintained his stand that as a former military personnel, tradition does not permit him to wear para military uniform, arguing that Hannaniya made a mistake.

Hope Uzodinma, the chairman of the committee also faulted the decision of the customs boss to promote and fire officers without recourse to a board.

He said it was illegal of the CG to carry out such administrative assignments without a board in place.

The customs boss blamed the ministry of finance for the delay in the constitution of a board for the NCS.

In response, Uzodinma assured him that the committee would send a letter to the ministry and other relevant bodies for the immediate constitution of the NCS board.

He said: “We are releasing you to go and sew your uniform while we continue with officials of ministry of finance and Central Bank‎ of Nigeria (CBN).”

This fool was always upset that unlike his course mates he never made it to General. He always liked the minimum title of brigadier general but was denied it. He considered that his mates who made it to general will laught at him for wearing bloody civilian customs uniform that looks like ibo okrika.

You are not helping so keep kwayet. The best thing to do is to show proof that he is not following tradition. A retired colonel or army, police can take any job and collect salary after retirement, but now as a retired colonel, does the army tradition forbid you from wearing para-military uniform?? that is the question we need answer to and the army needs to come up with an answer or if you know, quote the section in the army code of ethics etc and not saying things you absolutely know nothing about.

His service in the army have ended, he's now a civilian and can contest election as a civilian. He said tradition forbids him from wearing customs uniform, when did Nigeria start operating under tradition? Whatsoever happens to our Constitution. Very soon he will quote Sharia law. NONSENSE.

The custom boss's response accurately represents the mindset and orientation of the Nigerian army.

This is why they assume they are bigger than the laws of the land.

This is why they don't obey the laws and police when they are outside the barracks.

This is why they resist arrest and beat up civilians and beat up the police.

The Nigeria army is grossly unprofessional, run by archaic system and stuck in a fascist era.

Mr. Ali, you can not wear a paramilitary uniform but you can function and perform the duties and bear the name of the paramilitary. See how mentally sick and confused you are?

This is why Boko Haram with 6 months training butchered and turned you people into human barbecue because you're uneducated, unprofessional and grossly undisciplined, lacking in respect and patriotism.

Let it be known to your demented souls: The Nigeria army is superior to no paramilitary organisation in Nigeria.

Stupid coupists! When you're coming from peacekeeping missions abroad, you have to subject yourself to the laws of Nigeria customs and submit yourself. You're not fücking special!

When you broke the law, ypu subject yourself to the Nigeria police force. That's how it is done all over the world.

Stupid set of uniformed idiots!

Why is this uniform story going on and on....

i noticed nobody mentioned any section on the law...just tradition..tradition is not law plus it doesn't affect his work!

these law makers are not quoting any law as per uniform of a CG or even background of CG of paramilitary outfit

the previous boss stole billions with all his uniform wearing big belly yet the senators couldn't nail him.

^^ so it doesn't matter that this so called next in line was directly under one of the most corrupt custom boss ever!!

probably the same things delaying the confirmation of the current Acting CJN

I personally think Nigerians should forego this 'tradition of elevating the next in line esp in the civil service. outside should be brought in mainly from private sector to shock the system!!

I know Ali VERY WELL, right from when he was a military Governor. the main reason for the noise being made is because he has curbed corruption within the customs. A lot of people who are supposed to be ordinary civil servants are stupendously and unbelievably rich with NO TANGIBLE EXPLANATION as to how they came into such wealth with no other source of income or business apart from their job. No more growing fat. No more sharing of revenue running into BILLIONS of naira. it isn't BUSINESS AS USUAL and A LOT of people aren't happy about that......no just look at the new policy they are trying to implement with the clause "No Outsider". hmmm....if we don't kill corruption it will eventually kill Nigeria oh

So, you mean he has not even taken or benefited 1 kobo from the customs' treasury Let's not deceive ourselves, in one way or the other, the people that we claim to be corruption-free are involved in corrupt practices, it's just that it's minimal. I won't believe it's not business as usual in customs until they start employing more of the poor and helpless masses than their family members and allies .
