If Majek wrote and produced the song then the title to it rests with him...the record company just provided an avenue for distribution...

...and to those of you saying Majek has no case, he does have a solid case.

The burden of proof lies with Timi Dakolo to provide incontrovertible evidence that he obtained authorization from Majek or his agent before remixing the song.

Nigerians need to learn to respect copyright laws

In my opinion N100 million is very small when you factor in time value of money!

This is the first objective response I've see in respect of this subject. Some people can be so Myopic and uninformed.

Sometimes it's not about the money.. if only Timi had just taking permission in writing. Majek may not have charged him.

Besides u don't pay the manager to get right to use an intellectual property. U pay the record label and/or the owner of d song. A manager is simply a glorified employee.

You are really annoying and it is not hard to see that you do not produce anything. I am a writer and I know how it feels to have your products taken without your permission. It is even more painful when the thief makes money and more fame from it without acknowledging you. Listen to Olamide's remix of K1's Oba Anifowose or Nomoreloss' Iyawo Asiko and you would understand why they hailed the originators of the songs at the endings of the songs. Educate yourself by picking up a book and reading the copyrights on the front pages. You would see stuffs like 'No part of this book may be used or republished without written permission from the author...' or something close to that.

Note: I am not calling Timi a thief but trying to educate you because I have noticed how many people are ignorant about copyright laws.

Copyright laws allow acknowledgement. Sometimes, acknowledgement is enough. For instance, in photography, (I am also a photographer), acknowledgement is mostly always enough. In writing, it is advised that when you make use of an extract from a novel, you acknowledge the writer by at least attaching his name and the title of his book to the extract.
