The same way it pains me to hear Igbo names like Chibuike Amaechi, Peter Odili, Elechi Amadi, Chinda Dike, Ifeanyi Okowa and people classify them as none Igbos because of the useless country that is poised in dividing and ruling us.
It's not the same thing.

For whatever reason, it's the bearers of those names themselves that claim they are not Igbo.

However, northern Yorubas have never denied their Yoruba ancestry/heritage. All they are agitating for now is to be joined to the SW.

Today's Nigerian girl lost everything that was good about Nigerian women of the past to inferiority complex, low self esteem/worth hence, their need to perpetually immitate other girls from wherever.
In 20yrs time many of our so-called pretty or beautiful girls to will be hard to recognise.
Naija girls, who curse una? Especially the campus girls, cucumber generation.

You failed to understand why some of them refused to be identified as such.

It happened after the civil war. The Igbos became a conquered territory and it was very difficult to be Igbo then - your property were declared abandoned, you were entitled to 20pounds only, no matter how much you had in the bank, you were alienated from the government and military. So some people denied their roots by quickly changing their names.

In the case of Yorubas in the north, nobody would want to be from the north, who has the opportunity of identifying with other tribes. North in Nigeria is synonymous with everything bad - lack of development, extremism, illiteracy and what have you. The Yorubas in the north were merged to kogi in order to achieve a purpose- the expansion of the northern oligarchy.

So you see?

By the way, what is painful in being called a northern as a Yoruba when you guys so much love one Nigeria? Deal with it.

We have a lot of problem in Nigeria, we only care about the ones that we think affect us.

One Nigeria indeed.

Yorubas classify Okuns as Yorubas... the issue is with other tribes that say Okuns are not Yorubas as a way to create discord and disunity. Just like one idi0t from Edo state was saying some days ago on Nairaland that Ijebus are not Yorubas... Everybody Yoruba person knows that Ijebus are Yorubas but idi0ts like that don't know.

Beautiful Okun Yoruba woman.

What pains me the most though is, you will see someone named Oyelude Atinuke yet she will be termed a northerner by virtue of our colonial masters' erroneous geographical classification which no one has bothered to rectify till date.

We okun people are Yorubas and deserve to be classed with our kinsmen in the West, not made a negligible minority in the North!!!

The Okun people do NOT claim to be Yoruba because they want to avoid being called a Northener... they are actually Yorubas that got separated from the main Yoruba clusters of state starting from a war with the Nupes in the 19th century. The Okun people speak dialects of Yoruba language and also the popular general Yoruba language...

The Okun people's traditions, customs, dressings and culture are exactly like Yorubas... they can still trace their roots to Ile-Ife by oral traditions.

You get it... they have NEVER denied being Yoruba for any reason and have always insisted they should be in a Yoruba state... the other Yoruba groups see them as Yorubas!

PS: I am also a big supporter of fix Nigeria's problem instead of breaking Nigeria up.

When compared to Miss Nigeria 2016, you'll see that we missed it somewhere. unclothedness is a virtue today, little wonder the country is in recession.
na we start am? America and UK nko? They pose nude and yet they're not in recession. Change is the only constant thing. The way she dressed wasnt the way Africans dressed 500 years before her. They were clothed in minimal clothing of animal skin and vegetation. You can;t expect things to remain the same after 60 years

There is nothing like middle belt in Nigeria legally speaking, what we have is north central.

We have
1)Southeast
2)southwest
3)south south
4)northwest
5)northeast, and
6)north central.
These are the six geo-political zones in which Nigeria is divided.

Benue, Kogi,Kwara etç fall under north central and that is why the same penal code which is applicable in the northern Nigeria, also applies to them.

I know that Nigeria has a problem and that is why Biafrans will, rightly though, say that Igbo speaking parts of Rivers,Delta, Cross River etç are Igbo and belongs to the Ndigbo.

I can still kindly educate you further.

Ikwerre, Obigbo, Omoku, Ahoada, all in rivers state, speak variants of Igbo. The Igbo of Obigbo people is clearer to an Enugu person than the Igbo of an Owerri person.

Like I said before, the reason some of them deny being Igbo is that they don't want to be associated with the stigma already placed on the Igbo nation.

I bet you, if the north was not this backward, oozing with violence, and if the South west was not relatively stable as it is now, the Okun people in Kogi will not even remember their root in Yoruba.

Identity crisis is the height of inferiority complex and that is what the Ikwerre people are suffering.

Mind you, the present Secretary general of oha na Eze Ndigbo is an Ikwerre man. Some Ikwerre people like him still have sense.

And who told you that everybody in the north is hausa/fulani?

The Nigeria that you guys so much love has classified them as northerners.

What will you say about Benue people that are in the north?

The mere fact that you are in the north doesn't make you a fulani or Hausa.

Why is Kwara people not agitating to be joined back to the Southwest?

I know that Nigeria has an issue but you have to be objective when two matters of similar facts present themselves.

One Nigeria indeed!

You are NOT Yoruba and you are NOT inside the minds of Okun people... so if you bet that if the north was not backward and the south west was not stable Okun people would not remember their roots you WOULD LOSE YOUR BET!

Okun people tell tales of their links with Ile Ife in their Oral tradition... and you are telling me they would forget their history if the north was developed or the south-west was not stable? Listen to your logic!

If Igbo people decide to deny their roots, how does that link with Okun people who have always been proud of their roots?

Okun Yorubas have always maintained linked with the other Yoruba groups... the main issue was that it was NOT as easy it used to be after they were cut off from the main Yoruba states by the Nupes - so traveling to the other Yoruba cities and towns became a dangerous journey that a lot of Okun Yorubas did NOT want to go through at that time!

Please don't compare your Ikwerre scenario with Okun Yorubas!

If Ojukwu ran away to Ivory Coast like a woman to escape death does that automatically mean every high ranking military man that is Yoruba would run away when faced with the possibility of deathhuh

Even the north that you are claiming is backward, there are a lot of northerners (fulani, hausas, shuwa arabs etc.) that are proud to be northerners even with their level of illiteracy and poverty!

Okun people are overwhemingly christians that is also one of the reasons why they really distance themselves from northern identity.
Go to Ilorin where most of them are muslims, they glady accept northern identity and many of them although they speak only yoruba but they proudly claim Arewa and fulani identity.
