while i'm not a proponent of being reckless with one's life or our lives being pre-destined, i think when it's one's time to die, there's really nothing you can do about it, as this case seems. The students should just forget this protest and pray they dont fall into similar situation. Besides that pedestrian bridge will most likely not be used even if its put right in front of the school. The pedestrian bridge that was in front of Uniben main gate is a perfect example.Anyone that went to the University of Benin can bear witness to that fact, that only kids under 10 who were so afraid of the expresss ever used it. and ofcourse the love birds who wanted to take aerials shots.

So whose fault is it that she didn't look well before crossing? huh

I guess it's the government's or school authorities' fault huh

Those protesting students should go and play baba Ijebu, if they have nothing else to do with their time undecided
oga what are you saying? I am saying the students should forget the protest. What happened was a double accident that was really no one's fault.

What happened to the age old principle regards crossing roads of looking left, looking right, and looking left again? huh

Somebody ran into the road and ended up as roadkill while allegedly running from something, and they are blocking roads huh. ..why?

Were they there that fateful night to confirm that she took necessary precautions before crossing the road?..

even if there was a pedestrian bridge, did they expect the dead student to avert her mind to using it while running for her life? huh

From the pictures, there is a pedestrian bridge sef...and the government also built fences between the roads to stop pedestrians from crossing anyhow sad...just that according to students it isn't 'close enough' undecided .....

Buhari sef sad...he should have built a pedestrian bridge that will link straight into their rooms undecided

Somebody jam person, silly students are now blaming the school authorities and the government, even where it's clear from the pictures that the government has done its best in the circumstances undecided

Some Nigerian students are just brainless, this protest won't solve anything and the lady will most probably be alive if she had stayed at the scene of the robbery instead of running like a scared rabbit.

The clinic refused to treat the girl last night just because she wasn't with her ID card. Imagine that. That's why the protest is on.

See una life? Una don tif the pix wey I send begin claim naijaflava news. Lazy fools. This is why journalism is on its knees. U wld say why didn't I copyright or customise the pix. However, stealing is one tin, recycling news in order to delete the source and even the first set of comments is really low and crass an it shows how uselessly stupidly foolish, news agencies, particularly Nairaland have become. Anyway, I'm not surprised; wen u have afonja ppl as the owners/managers/mods, wat do we expect? Incompetent and silly buffoons angry

Their own student was accidentally knocked down by their own lecturer who still had the conscience and courage of carrying the corpse to the female hostel for identification. So what is the basis for the protest on the highway? I believe the deceased may not even have remembered a pedestrian bridge was existing before dashing into the road. Now all the rogues among them will start attacking innocent motorists and stealing their properties. This doesn't call for such protests in my own view.
the protest is for the provision of streetlights in that area.

I don't know why these authorities are always reactive rather than proactive. The only reason they built that pedestrian bridge and the barricade was because many had died on this same road while crossing.

The accident occurred partly because there were nonstreet lights. In the night, you can't see a thing in that area, it is deserted and dark. Maybe if there were streetlights the girl would have seen the oncoming vehicle or the driver would have seen the girl

Le the relevant authorities put functioning streetlights on that road

A driver using "one way" on road that is always free even during rush hours? And this happened at night when there are less vehicles? Something isnt adding up. There is a pedestrian bridge there and its just about 1min walk from the main gate. And there is a barrier on the road divider to stop students crossing. You cant really blame the poor girl cos she must have panicked.

What I heard was that she was knocked down while running from thieves, and rushed to the school clinic where she was rejected.
Anyway RIP to her though.

The truth be told, the security of the school don't patrol outside the school Gate.
Re: Uniabuja Students Protest Over The Death Of A Female Student by don003(m): 1:22pm On Feb 20, 2017
The pedestrian bridge is unsecured and a little far away from the school gate. Robbers can easily attack. School security personnel should extend their duties posts in order avoid such unfortunate incident.

RIP dear student.

And to the bereaved family, may God grant u the fortitude to bear the lost.

God guide us all from brigands.
