I have been driving for nine years now and like to think I am good at driving. I also travel long distances too when the need arises with my maximum speed so far at 140km/hr.

But then again, most men don't agree that women can be pretty good drivers starting with my hubby who had to engage the services of an escort to be with me while I drive myself to and fro from Anambra to benin yesterday.

I just like to know what most men think. Have you ever seen a good driver that is a female?

If so, share your experiences please.

Driving is not all about turning the steering and engaging the thruttle and brakes...... Its all about attitude, sense of judgement and last of all, mechanical experience to be a professional driver...

Now judging by these parameters, I would say that the female gender cannot be better drivers than their counterparts. ..

Thank you

So in essence, you believe that the females folks lack the attitude, sense of judgement and mechanical experience (wonder what this means) to move a METAL CONTRAPTION. Wow.

Well, I follow these steps
1. I call for help which can either be my husband, brother, friend, mechanic or passersby.
2. If I can't access the above which is hardly ever the case, I put up the red triangle, lock up and board a bus.
3. The car gets fixed and I am on the move again.

Please note that I haven't done any different from what my husband would have done in the same setting

you are supposed to know what could cause the break down of the car. Maybe it could be the battery terminals that came off.
At least first know problem with the car then you can call your husband or mechanic

If it were my old rickety car, then yes that can happen as I have had to readjust the terminals myself on three occasions. With my new ride, my major issues are changing the flat tires to the spare. other isssues are simply not within my domain hence the reason the mechanics are there

I have been driving for about 14yrs, i can beat my chest and say i drive very well and know some basics in car troubleshooting. At least few times I was able to identify the problem with my battery head and alternator, I can change fan belt perfectly, change tires is easy for me and brake pads if I'm stuck in a place I don't have help.

The road signs are the first basics of driving which I am familiar with, simple logic and common sence comes to play in most cases in driving.

Now God has blessed me with good car I experience less of such hassles in driving, just major oil change and diagnostic checks when necessary.

I still prefer to drive the manual drive cars when going on long distance journey, it keeps me alert.

Why do men think ladies don't know about the cars we drive. I for one listen to every little sound my car makes. My mechanic can attest to this. He always tells me I take care of my car more than some men do. My first car taught me how to speak car language. Lol. So when I got a new one I learnt to listen to my car and Google became a good research tool so also the nairaland car talk section. I knew when my battery was about to pack up and bought one to replace it myself. I knew when my silencer was licking because of the sound it made and the fuel consumption. I knew when my power steering hose had a lick (still does but I top up with power steering fluid when I notice it's running low). My first car thought me to listen and I learnt and am still learning a lot.

Just because am a lady does not mean I can't drive and maintain a car like a man would.

A woman can't do anything that involves stress efficiently...it's a natural thing. God didn't make them that way...When considerable number of women can't replace tyres & u want them to make good drivers? undecided

U are very right. Don't mind all them jealous peeps. We are far more better drivers, when it comes to maintenance give it to the women, many guys clamour to buy cars off ladies because they can attest to it.

And who made you God's head of Operations? Don't use the women around you to judge others. I feel like giving you a one way ticket to Saudi Arabia. Your ideas fall in line with theirs.

Hardly. Cars are designed by men, for men. The sense of balance, split decision-making, spatial awareness, calm and even physical strength required to be an expert driver - these are things women do not possess. It's cut and dry.
P.S. Ain't you passive-aggressive these days cheesy

Women are good drivers but not better than men.
Just get it right.

Can you do a J turn or 360 turn in case of emergency .
Can you escape an armed robbery attack.

No one is saying women can't do it but its mostly what defines a good driver

The skills required to be an expert driver favor males more than females. Not that females can't possess them, it just takes more time and effort on their part.

I have seen women who drive extremely well; but when you look at their driving pattern, it's almost as if it's a man that is driving. The other day, a twitter user was talking about a female BRT driver he saw; he even took pictures of her behind the steering.

Also, like someone mentioned above, driving isn't just about getting behind the steering wheel and zooming off; it extends to things like monitoring your car's sound, changing tyres and oil (things that most females count as "dirty and masculine"wink, response in emergency situations etc.

FYI, one of my sister's friends (she'll be in her mid forties now) has been driving since she was a teenager. If you see the way she handles steering wheel, you will know that Oga na master. I also know a top female FRSC officer who taught her all her children how to drive. Both these females are very good drivers but they have been driving for a veryyyyy long time.

And I also think this topic should be in the car talk section

Yea women can't make split-second decisions, lack spatial awareness, lack calmness and have no balance.

Yet the majority of road accidents are caused by male drivers.
You spout clownish nonsense and expect me to take you seriously.

I! Its not all women that go panicking. first rule, be calm, secondly avoid applying your breaks and gradually the car will get to a reasonable spead, if the breaks still don't respond after several attempted pumps, apply your hand break to force it stop. If its a manual drive car, when at a considerably low speed and both breaks fail yet again take your gear to reverse and it'll jerk to a stop.

If we're generalizing, women can't really stand all the emergencies that comes with driving but I have seen some badass female drivers me sef comot cap.

Women tend to be slow, not just the speed but In decision making.

That happened to me twice in 2 months. Passersby were simply amazed that I was the driver. Had to wonder why.
