Better tell your militant brothers in the ND and the olojukokoro iPod youths that collide with them to stop bursting pipelines, and leave the innocent Fashola alone. Its annoying when the same people responsible for a problem start opening their dirty criminal mouths to complain about the same problem they caused!

A lot of European countries use large windmills.... the modern kind... as part of their power supply.

They build dozens of them in very windy areas.

Well its time to know that we(Nigerians) owe ourselves the right to enjoy the basic amenities of life. Government has failed, imagine us celebrating mediocrity(4,000 +) Megawatts while other nations have over 200,000 Megawatss and their energy demands are not like ours.

My only reservation is if this windmill can carry all his household appliances well.

Solar is way better if i am to suggest. Solynta Energy gives u a better alternative and the good thing about it is that u can pay 35% cost and then spread the balance over 24 months and the System would be installed for you. If interested consult me, i would give you a free assessment of how it works and how you can get one

Think out of the box, they dont really care about us(In Micheal Jackson's voice). Source clean alternative energy

Waiting for MTN Lumous solar mobile electricity service. PHCN yanga don too much.
That 's a good option. You can connect gotv or any startimes decorder, any tv or fan with 12 volt dc power inlet to it permanently 24/7 without ever using Phcn or petrol/diesel generator.

The windmill works with turbine that generates electricity, when the wind velocity is high, it generates higher currents that can be saved in backup batteries that can be used later....a state like lagos or these desert states can be self suffficient in electricity

Desert winds and Sunlight will generate more electricity for the Northern state...but the Northern people have refused to think and make use of their brains...they only think SAI BABA and ISLAM

Beach breeze can sustain lagos with enough wind...we all know that its alway breezy in beaches, places like Badagry, Lekki and some parts of Apapa can develope electricity at least 1,000 mega watts. But these guys have refused to think, instead they think OWO MI DAY and Owo Ile

Now the east have enough coals that will generate electricity for the east but the federal government wont let them be or generate electricity because the federal government law of EXCLUSIVE LIST will

but the federal government exclusive list of not allowing them mine in Enugu hs put us in this jeopardy. The coal according to research can last the eastern Nigeria 100 years of uninterrupted electricity…minimum. Now this si where we are stuck…the FEDS don’t want to mine and they don’t want others to mine.

Those that tried een generationg theier electricity privately, like Barth Nnaji Geotech firm at Alaoji is ben killed.

The one at Uyo, the feds told them that they can build a power station using thermal energy but sell to the national grid. Why can't they just allow people to develop their electricity sources and power their communities. The idea of robbing peter to pay paul must stop
The

This country is a joke

mark my word, these daft government will come and tax this man

It's either you didn't study physics or you studied it,but failed to comprehend the working principle of a windmill.

Wave energy is an irregular and oscillating low-frequency energy source that can be converted to a 60-Hertz frequency and can then be added to the electric utility grid. The energy in waves comes from the movement of the ocean and the changing heights and speed of the swells. Kinetic energy, the energy of motion, in waves is tremendous. An average 4-foot, 10-second wave striking a coast puts out more than 35,000 horsepower per mile of coast.

Waves get their energy from the wind. Wind comes from solar energy. Waves gather, store, and transmit this energy thousands of miles with little loss. As long as the sun shines, wave energy will never be depleted. It varies in intensity, but it is available twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.

Ocean wave energy technologies rely on the up-and-down motion of waves to generate electricity. The first wave-power patent was for a 1799 proposal by a Parisian named Monsieur Girard and his son to use direct mechanical action to drive pumps, saws, mills, or other heavy machinery. Installations have been built or are under construction in a number of countries, including Scotland, Portugal, Norway, the U.S.A., China, Japan, Australia and India.

WHERE ARE THE BEST WAVES?

Generally, extreme latitudes and west coasts of continents. View global wave atlas (based on satellite data) and another world wave map

The world’s first commercial wave energy plant, .5 MW, developed by WaveGen is located in Isle of Islay, Scotland.

Here is wave data from the National Data Buoy Center or the Army, or the Scripps West Coast wave data system.

BUT THE STUPID BLACK MAN WILL NEVER THINK, WE HAVE WIND IN LAGOS AND COASTAL CITIES, WE WILL NOT DEVELOP ELECTRICITY
WE HAVE TONS OF SUNLIGHT IN NORTH...THEY PREFER QORAN AND SOME ISLAMIC MUMBLE JUMBLE
WE HAVE TERMAL IN THE DELTA...BUT THEY REFER KAI KAI AND MILITANCY
WE HAVE COAL IN EAST BUT THEY PREFER NOT ALLOWING THEM TO USE IT

When will these country grow....FASHOLA is a total disappointment

Yes sir, the wind needed to turn the turbines
Re: Man Installs Windmill To Generate Electricity, Tired Of Nigeria's Erratic Power by ariesbull: 10:19am On Feb 22, 2017
A residential wind power system is usually not suitable for urban or suburban locations with small lots. A property size of one acre or more is needed to accommodate a wind turbine’s large scale -- it needs to be high above nearby buildings and mature trees. Zoning laws must also be taken into account. Vertical access wind turbines (VAWT) can alleviate this restriction in some cases, as the turbine requires less space.

In order to make a residential wind power installation economically viable, one should pay close attention to wind speed and the cost of purchasing electricity. Your site should have an average wind speed of at least 10-12 mph. Your cost of electricity should be at least 10 cents/kWh.

Residential wind power generators have been installed in all 50 states. Most of the installations have been in Northeast, West and the Mid Western plains, where average wind speeds are higher and state incentive programs encourage the growth of renewable energy options for producing electricity.
Re: Man Installs Windmill To Generate Electricity, Tired Of Nigeria's Erratic Power by ariesbull: 10:19am On Feb 22, 2017
Electricity generation - what are the options?

Electricity is vital to modern life. It powers our lights and appliances at home. It powers many industry processes. It is used to power trains and to charge electric vehicles.Globally, electricity use is rising rapidly as new major economies develop in places such as China and India.

This need for electricity drives a growing demand for electricity generation, with thousands of new power plants needed across the world over the coming decades.Every form of electricity generation has its strengths and weakness and future electricity generation will need a range of options, although they must be low carbon if greenhouse gas emissions are to be reduced. Nuclear generation provides reliable supplies of electricity, with very low carbon emissions and relatively small amounts of waste that can be safely stored and eventually disposed of.For many decades almost all the electricity consumed in the world has been generated from three different forms of power plant - fossil, hydro and nuclear.

Renewables currently generate a relatively small share of the world's electricity, although that share is growing fast.FossilFossil fuel power plants burn carbon fuels such coal, oil or gas to generate steam that drives large turbines that produce electricity. These plants can generate electricity reliably over long periods of time.

However, by burning carbon fuels they produce large amounts carbon dioxide, which causes climate change. They can also produce other pollutants, such as sulphurous oxides, which cause acid rain.Cottam, coal and gas on the same site (EDF Energy)jpgThe Cottam power plant in the UK has coal and gas burners on the same site (EDF Energy)Fossil fuel plants require huge quantities of coal, oil or gas.

These fuels may need to be transported over long distances. The price of fuels can rise sharply at times of shortage, leading to unstable generation costs.Large hydroLarge hydro power plants generate electricity by storing water in vast reservoirs behind massive dams. Water from the dams flows through turbines to generate electricity, and then goes on to flow through rivers below the dam.Hydro dams can generate large amounts of electricity. However, dry periods can drain the reservoirs. The flooding of reservoirs behind dams and slowing of the flow of the river below the dam can have a serious impact on the ecology around the dam.

The number of sites suitable for new dams is limited.NuclearNuclear power plants use the heat produced by nuclear fission to generate steam that drives turbines, like in fossil fuel plants. However, no greenhouse gases are produced in this fission process, and only small amounts are produced across the whole fuel cycle.691px-Point_Beach_Nuclear_Power_Plant-(NextEra).jpgPoint Beach nuclear power plant in the USA (NextEra)Nuclear fuel can be used in a reactor for several years. The used fuel that remains after this time must be stored and then either recycled to make new fuel or carefully disposed of. However, because the amount of fuel used to generate electricity is so much less than that used in fossil fuel plants it is much more practical to do this with used nuclear fuel than with the wastes and emissions from fossil fuels.Nuclear power plants can run for many months without interruption, providing reliable and predictable supplies of electricity.

Nuclear power plants can generate electricity "24/7" for many months at a time, without interruption. Nuclear generation is one of the safest and least environmentally damaging forms of electricity generationRenewablesRenewables such as wind, solar and small scale hydro produce electricity with no greenhouse gas emissions at the point of generation and very low amounts of greenhouse gas emissions across their entire lifecycle.

The cost of electricity generation from many renewables tends to be higher than other forms of generation, often requiring subsidies to compete with other forms of generation, although these costs are coming down.N80-Norway12-(IEV-Ltd).jpgWind turbines in Norway (IEV-Ltd)Many renewables do not produce electricity predictably or consistently.

Electricity generation from wind turbines varies with the wind speed, and if that wind is too weak or too strong no electricity is produced at all. The output of solar panels is reliant on the strength of the sunshine, which depends on the time of day and the amount of cloud cover. This means that renewables have to be backed up by other forms of electricity generation, often fossil fuel generation with their resultant greenhouse gas emissions.

How Nigeria has failed to generate power from alternative source is beyond me. The abundance of sunlight in the north is enough to generate uninterrupted power for the north with the provision on solar panel. Likewise the hilly topography in the middle belt is enough for a windmill farm and will power the whole of the middle belt. And the coastal part and massive ocean current is enough for hydro power generation for the whole sw,ss,se and the entire nation but na lie. Na to dey blame gas, blame vandals of electric wire, blame climate for dryness and too much water. Between 1999 till date if we were to estimate the amount of money spent on power N 5trillion will be the starting point yet no power. Go to the poorest asian country with no oil like indonesia, philipines, taiwan, vietnam, etc They still enjoy 12-20hrs of electricity per day. War torn syria and libya still have power but why us, why Nigeria. This power situation is enough to protest not until when hunger nearly kill us. Make government put all resources into 18-24hrs power supply and see if recession will not find its square root. Majority of companies winding down is not solely due recession but the running cost of power.

I have used inverter for the past four years in my house. It is better than generators. A good battery can serve you for three years. We have varieties of inverter in various capacities. But the one I have been using is 12volts and it surpports my television, five energy saving bulbs and a fan which we use in the night for a good night rest. The more the batteries, the longer the duration of service or performance. Interestedly, my inverter is homemade. I produced it and it has been very efficient. Well, unfortunately, I use NEPA to recharge the batteries. In the absence of NEPA, I use generator to recharge. Your generator cannot work throughout the night. So when you off your generator, the inverter comes into a good use. Windmills is a dynamo or alternator turning device to generate DC power. Inverter is better than it.

Very excellent like Yardua wanted to implement in Katsina but the danger of this is not just for killing of birds but incident of the blades.
this is a construction and was supposed to be built at non residential areas with metrology data indicating the speed of the wind but there will be variation and low maintenance because welded joins subjected to forces induced from rotation would fail. Some might inspect after a time but considering we even refuse to change engine oils I pity neighbours and pray it doesn't happen. If you doubt me go to the mechanical engineering department of NDA,the blade is broken and was an incident

FlirtyKaren:
A Nigerian man tired of the country's epileptic power supply has installed a windmill so he can generate his own electricity.

His neighbour Deji Garuba shared the story on Instagram and said:
My neighbor has had enough of #PHCN wahala. The guy just installed a windmill to generate power. We haven't had #PHCN power for more than 30hrs in the last one year, the cost of running generators is neck breaking. This is what my dear country has become, electricity has become space science that the government can not easily provide or even encourage efficient private sector participation in the provision of power. God help us all!
