Expel the companies and increase the number of people who are not employed. They should expel the SA ambassador and issue a travel warning. |

For the people saying this won't affect S.A. Here's a Bloomberg article on Nigeria's role in MTN alone. "Nigeria’s telecommunications regulator last week slapped the mobile-phone operator with a $5.2 billion fine, wiping almost 20 percent off its market value over the space of four days. There is a lot at stake for Africa’s largest mobile-phone operator and the government of the continent’s top economy as the following charts, converted to dollars as of Friday’s exchange rates, show. While Johannesburg-based MTN is in talks with Nigerian authorities over the penalty, imposed for failing to disconnect customers with unregistered SIM cards and having incomplete data, failure to negotiate a lower sanction means the company will be paying away more than double the group’s estimated net income for 2015. It also exceeds sales of almost 54 billion rand ($3.9 billion) that the operator made in Nigeria in 2014, about 37 percent of total revenue." Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-11-02/four-charts-that-show-why-mtn-s-nigerian-fine-matters-so-much If MTN is expelled. The company is finished. It cannot survive without Nigeria's revenue, as Nigeria contributes to nearly 40% of the company's revenue. It will quickly turn from a giant into a small company without Nigeria. That is why a small fine alone forced S.A. president to come to Nigeria, they lost 20% of revenue from it. If the Nigerian market is lost, the company will surely die, and it will mark of a large revenue off of its stock exchange contribution to the S.A. economy. We have glo, who will expand and hire more people. We will be fine. 2 Likes 1 Share |

They would bribe the senators and they would keep shut... that is what happened the last time. PS: I would be porting my MTN line to Etisalat tomorrow. I already have a GLO line. MTN has lost me as a customer. I have already switched from DSTV to Startimes in May 2016. 1 Like 1 Share |

bid4rich: I don't understand what you're trying to say in your 1st line. But anyway, your quote says, just to put it loosely, that sometimes violence is necessary to take what you want back, by force (in your domain). Am I right? So what I'm asking is, why is it then an issue when South Africans apply the same logic? I read your entire post but the Bible verse caught my attention since the reason your country wants to expel South African companies is because of violent acts commited by some South Africans against foreign nationals. It just seems contradictory & riddled with double standards. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. It's your country so do as you wish, just as South Africans have also done in theirs |

ZarZar: **** South African started it all. (I think you know that) **** When the so called dialogue seems not to be existing, what next? Is there no President in South Africa to condemn the act? Have you read or watch anywhere in the media that they have done so? **** I think we should call a spade a spade and not a spoon. **** I am not an advocate of violence but being silent on the critical issue like this especially the one that involve lives and properties, I cant keep quiet on that. If the government of South Africa think what the citizens are doing is right then nothing is wrong if the country affected also take measures to show displeasure Thats my take |

Shameless Nigerian senators and politicians. When south Africans were using their brains to think deep, come up with great business ideas and invest in Nigeria, our useless politicians were busy stealing money and spending it building useless houses and sleeping around with oloshos... now they are talking nonsense about wanting to expel S.A businesses in Nigeria. How many south africans work in MTN, Game, shoprite, multi choice in Nigeria? Expel them and render many youths useless and hopeless. The bas.tard that kept 9million dollars in one dirty house did not use his brain to start a business. They just steal money and keep it somewhere. No common sense at all. May thunder fire all the senators talking nonesnse. 2 Likes 1 Share |

bid4rich: Yes, they started it, but the same logic applies! There have not been "silence" from the South African govt. over this. Your compatriots posted something just a few days ago, with a govt. spokesperson apologising over the recent attacks. Plus the attacks are already a thing of the past to my understanding, so it seems the law did its job. But hey it's your call. Send them packing! More jobs for us! |

Elfaris: If it is true that expelling MTN will render the company useless, why can't anybody or group of persons come up with a company as big as mtn? We know glo is already trying but can't we have an indigenous net work company as big as MTN? With all the billions our bas.tard politicians have stolen, none of them could use their brain to start a huge business to compete with or totally chase out these south African firms |
Re: Nigerian Senate May Expel DSTV, MTN, Shoprite Over Xenophobic Attacks by Nobody: 5:44pm On Feb 28, 2017 |
yinkslinks: Actually MTN, DStv & Shoprite are popular here too, there's just other better alternatives for MTN & Shoprite, but not for DStv. Startimes sucks. |
