jakeporeshenko:I don't subscribe to the meaningless nonsense of using the Sahara as a border. So, actually, and factually, I said Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, SA were the only ones with whom they hold exercises of equals. And not exercises where they come to train. Where's the insult in the above? The whole thing degenerated when people read whatever they read into the above. The "master/teacher" thing came later, and yes, not my best moment here and I own that. And I'd made the observation about Flintock before that. |

frumentius:The photos and videos is what this thread is all about. It is believed that every individual is conversant with the basics. Coming over to waste time on things like basic marksmanship is very unfortunate. There are other scenarios, combat parachuting, counter ambush, FIBUA but basic marksmanship shouldn't have been added. |

Henry240:Is that an Agusta bird on the OPV? Where did I get the idea that Unity and Centenary's hangars were too small for the A-109? |

frumentius:The hangars can accommodate a Panther helicopter or Z-9, I'm sure they are larger than the A-109. |

frumentius:Yeah but it's not a bloddy fact though can't you understand this simple thing I am trying to pass on to you, on this same thread I have posted pictures of US army green beret mastering tracking and other skill with BIR commandos in Cameroon, Its not safe to assume you know everything happening on the continent. Someone also once mentioned US SOF sometimes trained with UPDF on jungle survival techniques, if that is not mutually beneficial I don't know what is.

Berliet VXB of the Senegalese police. I have always liked this vehicle, looks like a miniature Ratel. It was produced with hydrojets and was supposed to be amphibious. Fun fact: the SADF imported one of these for trials during the Ratel programme. They were testing its supposedly amphibious capabilities by having it cross a deep river. The VXB sank to the bottom near the halfway point and was no longer serviceable afterwards. This incident was covered in a very interesting book called "The VAB family of armoured vehicles", by Marx Stefan.

On vehicles like the Reva FAV, Nigerian IPV, Hornet, Panhad SPV, Jackal, FIV and other types of Special Forces vehicles, I never said I don't like them. I said in reality and purpose of the argument I prefer vehicles like the Plasan Sandcat or M-ATV for Special forces. I said for the Nigerian threat environment, vehicles like the Sandcat are better. I wanted to get a proper argument that would support a contrary view. Unfortunately, all the respondents could not provide a good argument, @Frumentius was busy posting photos of the SPV in service of other European armies, with a message of how "they were wrong and I was right " and how I "know more than them". To his credit, only Patches gave a reasonable argument, however all he said, could still be and are currently replicated by the Plasan Sandcat. On the Hornet, although it is ugly, I like the vehicle as it provides a compliment of some of the things I want to see in an SPV with it's own characteristics of a Fast Intervention Vehicle. So, No! I did not begin to like Fast Intervention Vehicles because Nigeria is building them. No!

Henry240:I was the one who created the Firestorm about the Hornet that is so beloved by our South African brethren. Let me add my two cents and create Firestorm#2 It appears the lessons from Bangui has not been learned. This vehicle will not fare well in an urban warfare setting of Mosul and despite the pleas of my South African brethren it will suffer against a fast moving urban terrorists gang swarming on two more fronts simultaneously. |
