it is kind of debatable if we were to factor in the time period

ancient evidences refer to usage of specialized units for special purposes other than conventional warfare

i have come across references in china india japan European countries etc

infact there r references to dedicated psy ops units in ancient times.

British WW2 'behind the enemy line' forces were not termed as SF but were rather referred to as 'commandos'

musing a little here smiley

personally i was involved in a sister organization which was handed the task to research into over 1000 + year old ancient war fighting strategies , formations, techniques involved in logistics etc etc.

one unique thing which caught our eyes was that in the manuscripts we went through we came across descriptions of special 'shoes' which were designed to increase endurance of foot soldiers encumbered with heavy loads not thinkable even with the fittest modern soldiers. hell! 3 soldiers would barely get the job done.

based on the info which we could decipher we tried to replicate , but were only partially successful , that was 3 years ago , i left for different company/org so dont know what happened . compartmentalization is implemented very strictly so chance r slim that i would ever get to know about it.

PS : the military formations used in ancient time as described in the manuscripts were found to be better/efficient than some of those used in the modern times , lets say these were implemented to good effect with necessary modifications and validated in war room gaming simulations and later corps level military exercises .

old is gold after all grin
those were the days when being in the military was a thing of pride to men.

but i get what you're saying. times have changed, so will battlefied tactics.

"Some" SF units are grouped into "commandos".

I don't know if I'm supposed to repeat myself at every turn.

SOF does not exist. As the term SOF is the exact same thing as SF.

Because you have received additional training in some sort of speciality does not necessarily make you an SOF. You're just a more mobile infantry or a Quick Reaction Unit.

Your MRS is nothing more than a Naval Infantry. If this was the case, every Naval infantryman in the Nigerian navy would be referred to as some special super duper soldier.
Again doctrine! Nigerian military doctrine might class or group them as SF.

Composite tactical force tailored mostly to support service arms in ops.

It is during a raid if the mission demands high number of boots SF people will be supplemented with paratroopers. At times within parachute units there units who work closely with the SF mainly to support.

7 medical battalion has SF(qualified) people but they are not labelled as that. During deployments there's normally one helicopter fitted for their needs. They can go deep with the SF providing "health services".

It doesn't help when your military men don't know what they are talking about and require schooling from a civilian.

When they are largely ignorant. I find that to be quite problematic.
What happened to "I'll ignore your post"?

Anyway you're a man in suits in an air-conditioned office, we know your pic.... All you do is fantasise about the military.

Ballistic protection is up to STANAG4569 A Level 4. Able to absorb those rounds. Great family of vehicles.

Would make a great vehicle to replace the Casspir with. Different design approach.

The engine moved to the side of the vehicle to create more space. Better Ratel.

I make no apologies for that.

NIGERIA AND CAMEROONIAN TROOPS CONDUCT JOINT CLEARANCE OPERATION

In order to clear fleeing Boko Haram terrorists hibernating within remote and border areas, Nigerian and Cameroonian troops have carried out another joint operation to weed out Boko Haram terrorists along Nigeria and Cameroon border.

The two days joint operation which was led by Col Dourai and Lt Col Mohaman of the Cameroonian Defence Forces had troops drawn from the Cameroon’s Battalion Rapid Intervention (BRI) and 151 Task Force Battalion of 21 Brigade, Nigerian Army.

During the operation which ended yesterday Tuesday, troops of the two countries cleared Siyara, Kote, Sigawa and proceeded to Bulabundibe towns. Other areas cleared include AdeleKe, Tchatike and Lamukura villages.

While conducting the operation the troops came in contact with Boko Haram terrorists and neutralized many of them, apprehended 2 others, while many other terrorists escaped with gunshot wounds.

The Troops further recovered an unserviceable Toyota Canter, 7 Dane Guns and 5 Boko Haram terrorists flags, 4 vehicle tyres, 2 Motorcycles and vehicle spare parts.

While Addressing the Joint troops, at the conclusion of the clearance operation, the team leader, Col Dourai, stated that the operation was carried out to secure both countries’ borders from the menace of the Boko Haram terrorists. He further commended the Nigeria Army and the conduct of the troops.

Thank you for your kind cooperation.

If we do get it as a Casspir replacement, it would probably be the 4x4 long-wheel base variant.

-Naval Infantry?? So Naval Infantry specialize in combat diving, ship boarding, rapid deployment ,Air Sea Rescue!! cool story!...........Oh and let me not forget, since the MRS is now Naval Infantry the handful of them are now force projectable !!

-Then What are they....since they are a specialized unit in the Army?

NAF ESTABLISHES COMBAT SEARCH AND RESCUE UNIT IN PLATEAU STATE

As part of the renewed commitment to evolve robust security architecture capable of rapid employment in all spectra of warfare, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today hit the ground running for the establishment of a new specialised unit in Kerang, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The new unit, 205 Combat Search and Rescue Group (CSARG), comes under the Special Operations Command. It is intended to shorten NAF’s response time and improve search and rescue efforts of troops in crisis areas within the country.
“The new unit is one of the nine specialised units under SOC set up to address the current security challenges facing our nation”, said the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar. He disclosed that 205 CSARG will incorporate hospital and schools for the benefit of NAF personnel, their dependents and civilian population within the area. Air Mshl Abubakar reiterated the commitment of the NAF to protect lives and property in the State in partnership with other security agencies.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the ground breaking ceremony, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong commended the NAF for its role in combating insurgency and terrorism in the country; adding that the occasion is one of the many remarkable strides by the Nigerian Air Force in repositioning itself into a professional and disciplined force. Gov Lalong described the event as “a landmark achievement by the NAF that will forever remain indelible in the hearts of Nigerians and most especially the good people of Plateau State”.
I commend the CAS most of the NAF budget under this CAS is however going to Humanitarian and hospitality. Abeg oh, we want to see something that can fly soon oh.

I get you, but we are. 12 x MI-35m, 20 x UAV, 3 x Super Tucano, 3 x JF-17.

Compared to Badeh who was a colossal failure of apocalyptic proportion and Amosu who couldn't get more confused on the job, S.B Abubakar is a breath of fresh air.

Not ordinary civilians, but members of the Civilian JTF. They know the terrain and are aware of possible look out, they are an integral part of military operations in that region.

That a question for the military top brass and policy makers.

That been said, 250 members of the CJTF have been recruited into the army and the guys who are still CJTF members carry shotguns and Dane guns for self defence.

Badeh, I kept saying those guys were the most unpatriotic elements that Nigeria could cook up but nobody believed me until we started seeing the evidence. I hope he rots in Jail for every life lost under his watch. when you see them salute the Flag one would wonder if they are truly swearing allegiance to the Flags of our Fathers or if they are just making a mockery of the whole thing.

The US uses SOF to distinguish between army SF and those under special operations command.

Apart from that, In an international scenario SF is SOF. they're just different terms.
