Your response only shows that you studied petr. Eng. because of the "big pay". That is a mistake most people make. Its always good to study a course you love, it will keep your hope even if you don't get a job at the moment. When I was applying into the university, I wanted to study mech. Eng. but my dad advised I chose Petr. Eng. as my first choice because to him, Nigeria was an oil producing nation but I didn't like it and so didn't choose it. Today, I feel fulfilled. The deed has been done, what I will advise you is to look within yourself and search for that thing you love doing. As bovi, the comedian, said in one of his interviews, "do something you would do for free even when people are being paid for it." Start from there and see where God takes you. But if petroleum Eng. is your "true love", then don't give up, start from somewhere. Work with people that pay little or nothing so as to empower yourself in the field and from there, gather the necessary skills and connections. You need to be in vegas to know what happens in vegas. All the best!

Regretting the course you studied will not help you in any way. U should not be engaging in self pity at this stage, rather u should take your future in ur own hands. If I were in ur shoes, I would take up a teaching job in a private school and teach chemistry, and maybe physics and will also hustle at Jamb/ssce classes in the evening at the nearest tutorial centre for extra cash. It may seem stressful, but It will definitely get me fed and leave little for savings.

While doing this, I will watch out for parents who come to drop their wards or check on them during open-days, I will chat them up and form a kind of close affinity with them, having taken care of their wards academic needs. While engaging the parents I will try and sell myself to them an intelligent person who has what it takes to be great if given the slightest opportunity.

Your write-up is full of grammatical blunders.

Could this be a contributing factor to why you are still jobless?

It has nothing to do with your field of study.
I know persons who studied Islamic studies and Christian religious studies but are gainfully employed.
Identify your weaknesses, strive to improve on them. Just develop yourself....

His grammar is better than those that were gainfully employed. Blame the system.....we have few jobs out there

You are right. Non graduate jobs are more in the oil fields. Ppl are now after what can you do.
An advise, u cannot be living at Enugu and be looking for oil jobs.
1.Try to move to bayelsa or pH. Network with ppl there. You can be going and standing in their gate everyday , one day luck might smile on you or you even meet ppl u knew b4.

2. Many jobs come out and are not announced. Try to make friends with ppl in the field no matter how low their grades are.

3. Also know this is not the best times for oil coys. You may not get a job as high paying as it was b4, but just enter and get something doing even if its non skilled.my younger sis hubby that used to earn 1.5m monthly now earns between 250k to 350k despite having over 10 years experience. So if you get 130k or 150k salary, accept it

4. Make community leaders of oil coys your friends. Or just get to know someone that knows them. grin . They may help you get jobs but you have to pay for the jobs. Sometimes their terms are high. If they tell you that you have to train someone in the university, make sure the amount is spelt out and for how many years max. These ppl can milk you. It shouldn't be an open cheque like that. If you don't spell it out, u will be paying so much for exam sorting fees and the person will refuse to graduate.

5. Accept some terms you consider ridiculous to get in and get experience. When you get experience you can move over to Arab world ,calgary- Canada or Houston texas.

I hope I helped.

very insightful.

Every student shoud just learn how to be using his or her hands. Jobs are getting scarce bc no one is creating any, factories are folding bc of recession and unemployment will continue to increase. If we continue like this, there will be no job again in the future.

Bro apart from all the other good advice u have been given already ill also tell u not to depend too much on ur degree
This buhari period even ppl wey grad with first class still de suffer
Go out n learn something
Website design, music production, pop installation, electrical installations,
Just anything and everything
Surely if u know up to 3 things outside ur field of study then u don bam
Cos as u r doing electrical installations, for example, somebody will call u to design website or do graphic designs, u go home at night after ur elec install and spend 1 or 2 hours and do the computer related stuff and then go to sleep

That way u earn cool cash and still have time for urself

Im still a student but i make beats once in a while n sell em
Keeps me going when it seems things will b dry (just imagine if it was full time na)
Im hoping to go into graphic designs soon and other things too

When Obasanjo advised nigerian youths not to go to university and study all whatnot and expect to land great jobs thereafter, many people misunderstood him. But the truth is that Obj was right. Many students chose the wrong courses without adequate knowledge of the current prospects of such courses in the labour market. Some people don't even know that jobs are given mostly based on needs. That means, if there's no need for your services, nobody will employ you. I wish our sec schools will start informing students properly on how to make the right choices of what to study in the uni.

For those in sciences, pls don't waste your time and resources studying courses like Pet Eng, Chem Eng, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Zoology, Botany, Chemistry/ind Chemistry, Geology and the likes, UNLESS you have somebody at the top who can and is willing to give you job regardless of what you studied. OR you have passion for teaching and ready to accept the peanut u'll b paid

The difference always shows right from NYSC camps.

I have given professionals my CV to re-write for me several times but all to no avail. I am really regretting studying Petroleum Engineering here in Nigeria. Lawd have mercy! What does the Op's written english had to do with the subject matter? Do we look out for the grammar's in a CV or the experience and skills? If he had told you he do fail an interview, you can assume but not in this case. Every CV should be brief and straight to the points, and not a 5 page powerpoints presentation like yours

What a pity.please just go and pray and ask God what ynu can do to succed.God does not need ur papers to succed.i have seen people who graduated and prayed and it was revealed to them what to do.it was not even in their job or field of study.God would give you something not in your hands and unexpected.God meets needs and not WANTS.Nowadays i really pity we graduates who keep running up and down without asking God what he wants us to do after a major strides in our academic life.
