Looks like baby excema to me but I ain't sure. It's usually treated under the eela category. Some people recommend bathing the child with red acalypha leaves. I used the leaves and sebamed body lotion for my second son who had something similar

Pls which is best: is it sebamed baby lotion or baby body milk,am lost at which to choose

One is specifically indicated for babies but if you do not see it, you could go for the other one.

Or if you can get this, it really works for baby eczema too

I'd give someone i know will make use of them, not someone i am not sure whether she'd trash them or not. #JustMyOpinion

From experience of trying out the two, i prefer the milk. Though more expensive, it doesn't make my LO sweat and it dissolves faster.

what an ignorant/false post !!!!!!!

are you implying that drugs are only prescribed for SICK babies that are not exclusively breastfed? undecided so exclusively breast fed babies do not fall sick and if they do, they shouldn't be given drugs? undecided

since when did breast milk prevent/cure cold, catarrh and malaria? undecided since when did breast milk prevent a child exposed to mosquito bites from contacting malaria? undecided

so she should not use the drugs prescribed by the doctors and leave the child to remain sick? undecided do you know that malaria in babies can lead to death? do you know that cold left untreated can lead to chest infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis ? undecided chest infections left untreated can also lead to death.

breast milk is not the magic formula/'cure it all' for all ailments in children.

mumyebun:

@jam04 yes o. She is EBF

mummy ebunoluwa, please ignore that dude and give your baby all the drugs prescribed by the doctor.
try and avoid exposing your baby to mosquitoes by using mosquito net, insecticides like mortein and also a mosquito repellent suitable for her age.

for the cold, try not to expose her to dust, too much air conditioning or fan. you can get Mentholatum (there are some available for babies) and apply the balm on her chest, back, sides and feet.

also get original silverbird (eucalyptus oil) and dilute it with coconut oil (or any other oil). one drop of eucalypus oil for every 5 drops of coconut oil.

apply the diluted oil on her clothing/cot. please make sure the oil is properly diluted and the smell of the eucalyptus oil is not too strong or overpowering.

yes. as long as :

1)your baby has tested positive for malaria after conducting malaria blood test
2)the malaria blood test result has been reviewed by a doctor and the doctor has prescribed the right malaria drug/dosage

chia! malaria blood test wasn't conducted
the doctor prescribed it.

I told him my baby is coughing. he has been coughing for four days now. Two days back he was running temperature at night and I gave him PCM.
so he prescribed coartem and this syrup. picture attached.

Well said!

Jam04 your response was both accusatory and insulting! You made it seem like she's the reason her baby is ill by not doing ebf thereby putting every other mother here who for one reason or the other couldn't do ebf on edge.

Ebf babies do fall sick all the time so it's not exclusive to formula red babies! Now you've told her the drugs a doctor prescribed for her baby is dangerous, how now do you expect her to feel administering the drugs to her baby?

More so the baby is actually EBFed so what say you is the cause of the illness?

Na wa o.

Please what are you saying?

So breast milk is now cure for malaria? Or infection?

Soon you will say its a cure fore AIDS. or That the mother should not immunise her child because the baby is EBF.

A child is ill and prescribed medication, and all you can do is to accuse the mom for not doing EBF! Arrant nonsense.

the right thing is to test for malaria and not prescribe blindly. cough+temperature doesn't mean malaria. it can even be tonsillitis (talking from experience)

testing for malaria in a child can be distressing for both mother and baby as a vein has to be found and blood drawn (sometimes from the baby's feet). so maybe this is why the doctor chose not to refer you to a lab. that said, the right thing he should have done was to ask for you to do a test first.

his cold/temperature may just be a virus that would clear on its own with pcm, water, food and sleep.

i think its your decision to make really. you can choose to follow your doctor and give your baby the drug or do a blood test first. personally, i will not give my baby malaria drug without a confirmatory test result.

the second drug (that is, the picture you attached) is an antihistamine. in other words, that is piriton. ideally, it is prescribed for treating symptoms associated with allergy (runny nose, etc) but I do know some doctors prescribe it for common cold and it works. It is quite a 'strong' medication and I won't use it any longer than 'once a night', 3 days only as prescribed by the doctor.

My post isn't judgemental or abusive in any manner, I only asked question, the thread isn't about who know it all, moreover i never said in my post that breatmilk is the almighty anti-illness drink. Before a doc could prescribe a drug with a cefpodoxime as an active ingredient (orelox contain cefpodoxime as an active ingredient) he is definitely treating a broad base INFECTION. It is recommended for babies from 24 weeks. So I know the reason why I asked if she is on EBF.
I don't know if you are FTM as I wouldn't want to make you worry as to the reason why the doc prescribed antimalarial and antibiotics for your baby but try to careful about the environment the baby live especially as we approach the rainy season. Your baby will be fine.

Ovems:
Goodmorning everyone, thanks for all the information that has been shared on this thread. This is my first post here and I really need your advice. I have a 9months old son who hasn't slept for 3hour straight since birth. He always wakes up to breastfeed almost every hour. I am getting really exhausted. Maybe I caused it because I feel he does it out of habit sometimes but I don't know what to do to help him sleep longer. Please experienced mothers, will he learn to sleep longer on his own? Or how do I train him to do so. Sorry for my long post. I am just exhausted. Thanks.
Goodmorning Mamas. I made the earlier post in Nov 2016, would have been back to share the testimony after we made progress but my son was just falling my hand. Lol. Sometimes, we would have made a lot of progress and the next thing, I will notice that we had taken few steps back.
Well, now he is 13months old. He wakes up just once or twice. I give him water when he wakes up which is usually 4hours after he sleeps. But when he wakes up the second time, its breastmilk (which I intend to stop totally soon). The goodnews is he sleeps for 4hours straight but still doesn't sleep all through the night. We are getting there sha.
For those still going through something similar, I just ignored his request for breastmilk and offered water instead. He resisted and cried for loooong at first but with time, the cries reduced and he now looks for the water himself now and goes back to sleep on his own. Thank you all for your help especially Onegai, Zaynie, AlphaHandMaiden, helovesme. Really grateful.
